If you’re a fan of Tempest or arcade classics in general than it might be in your best interest to pick up this latest release from Atari, but if you’re expecting to get a new rendition of an old classic in the same vane as Pac-Man Championship Edition you’ll need to look elsewhere. Tempest is functional, and for five bucks you really shouldn’t expect much more.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune è il gioco che tutti i possessori di PlayStation 3 stavano aspettando: veloce, divertente ed immediato, con una narrazione di fondo che vi terrà letteralmente incollati allo schermo. Tutto questo soprattutto grazie ad una giocabilità eccellente e a delle meccaniche di gioco ben bilanciate. Anche il comparto tecnico, seppure privo di elementi artistici particolari (ma di sicuro impatto scenico), e minato da una telecamera non proprio ottimale (ma in quale titolo lo è?), si attesta su livelli ottimi. Tutto perfetto allora? No, considerando che Uncharted si muove su terreni già solcati da altri prodotti inquadrandosi in un contesto ludico tutt'altro che innovativo. Non è, insomma, il nuovo Tomb Raider e non scalza Gears of War dal trono di “best action game”. Ma considerando l’altissima qualità del prodotto, non lodare i Naughty Dog per il lavoro svolto sarebbe davvero un crimine imperdonabile. Qualche piccolo “difetto di gioventù”, insomma, saprà farsi perdonare in virtù dell’ottima caratterizzazione di trama e personaggi. Naughty Dog, come fu per Crash Bandicoot e Jak, ha dimostrato nuovamente la sua capacità di entrare nell’immaginario dei giocatori di ogni generazione. E ricordate: “Ogni grande faccenda ha un suo principio, ma è portarla avanti fino alla fine, fino al suo pieno compimento; quella è la vera gloria” - Sir Francis Drake, 1587.

Cranium Kabookii is a good idea taken down by some questionable execution and the eventual realization that not only is the board game a better value, but it's just more fun. This might be worth a rental for a family that just got a Wii and is still reveling in its novelty, but Cranium Kabookii just doesn't warrant a purchase.

The stake through the heart of Dance Dance Revolution Universe 2 is its refusal to adapt new gameplay mechanics or inventive modes. We’ve been playing the same DDR for the last ten years and it’s high time that gamers stood up and demanded an overhaul of the formula. It’s ludicrous for people to continue to pay full price when all they’re really getting is an updated song list. Two games; sure, three games; fine, but nearly ten years of the same game has got to be stopped.

Black Site (Area 51) risulta essere una delusione cocente. Perché dietro tutti quei problemi elencati finora si nasconde un titolo potenzialmente buono, che si lascia giocare volentieri dagli appassionati di FPS, con una modalità online soddisfacente. La poca ispirazione del level design, la scarsa longevità, i difetti di programmazione, l'IA irrilevante di compagni ed avversari fanno si che titolo non emerga dalla massa (sia su console Microsoft, ricca di esponenti illustri, sia su console Sony, che propone un FPS Sci-Fi decisamente più valido e corposo). La speranza è che, dato l'ampio spazio che la trama concede ad eventuali approfondimenti o seguiti, Midway utilizzi le basi tecniche e stilistiche di Blacksite per concedere una seconda chances (e tutto il tempo necessario) agli sviluppatori.
