Una maravilla para el séquito de fans de Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangello y Donatello. 13 juegos en un solo pack, y entre algunos de ellos está alguno de los mejores beat'em up de la historia. Si os apetece echar una tarde retro con olor a pizza, no hay mejor opción.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection is a great package. While not every game is a winner — and a lot of them are variants of other games in the collection — there's still lots here to love. It brings two of the most beloved beat-'em-ups in history to modern platforms, and is host to some hidden gems like Radical Rescue. This is all polished up with a host of great enhancements and the fantastic Turtle Lair gallery, which — for any TMNT fan — may be worth the price of admission alone.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection è una raccolta che si rivolge a un pubblico potenzialmente enorme, visto lo straordinario successo riscosso dalle Tartarughe Ninja nei primi anni '90, ma rimane per forza di cose un prodotto che solo i nostalgici potranno davvero apprezzare. I due arcade si pongono come la parte migliore della raccolta, seguiti dalle conversioni per SNES e Mega Drive, mentre il picchiaduro Tournament Fighters oggi come oggi dice poco e gli episodi a 8 bit sono pieni di limitazioni che li rendono difficilmente digeribili.

Davanti all’ennesima retrogaming collection non sappiamo mai se rallegrarci o meno: in questo caso, tuttavia, il sorriso comparso quando si è palesato per la prima volta il trailer d’annuncio non si è mai sopito: per quanto alcuni titoli presenti siano per loro natura un pochino datati, si tratta comunque di titoli godibili, proposti insieme ad alcune perle degli anni ’90 che meritano assolutamente di essere vissute e rivissute. Applaudiamo, inoltre, l’intento di presentare i titoli con tutti i crismi, non limitandosi a infarcire l’antologia di rom senza un contesto ma regalandoci interessanti extra tutti da scoprire e addirittura l’online per alcuni di questi.

Soul Hackers 2 is, at its heart, a streamlined Atlus JRPG, serving as a great entry point for anyone new to the genre or the developer in general. The combat and dungeon delving are entertaining, if fairly familiar, and the charming cast of characters kept me interested all the way through its roughly 60-hour campaign. But a disappointing lack of creativity in its battle systems and a fairly shallow overarching story mean this newly resurrected series will need to do more if it wants to set itself apart amongst Atlus’ best.

Pac-Man World Re-Pac è un rifacimento fedele del titolo originale, aggiornato quasi esclusivamente da un punto di vista grafico, reparto in cui gli sviluppatori di Now Production hanno svolto un lavoro egregio. Il gioco rimane un platform colorato e divertente che, nella sua semplicità, non arriva ad essere un classico ma ricorda comunque i tempi d'oro nel genere, e saprà divertire tanto i veterani quanto i più giovani. La nostra speranza è che Bandai Namco continui su questa strada e ci consegni un remake di Pac-Man World 2, il migliore della trilogia. I remake di Pac-Man World 3 e Pac-Man World Rally, invece, li eviteremmo volentieri.

Il ritorno di Pac-Man sulle macchine da gioco segna un evento storico per tutti gli appassionati del titolo originale, perché questa riedizione trasporta di peso l'esperienza vissuta nel 1999 calandola nei nostri giorni, previo qualche piccolo aggiustamento in termini di quality of life e ammodernamento visivo. Sebbene questa remaster non spicchi per rinnovamento grafico, gli scenari imbastiti da Now Production risultano colorati, facilmente leggibili e semplici da esplorare, forse anche troppo. La facilità con la quale è possibile raggiungere i titoli di coda, infatti, si unisce allo scarso numero di mappe presenti e ambientate in mondi già visti in altri giochi simili, dando come risultato una longevità traducibile nelle sei ore necessarie ad esplorare in lungo e in largo ogni livello. Gli evidenti fenomeni di stuttering che assillano la telecamera non inficiano sulla fluidità di gioco, con Pac-Man che corre e saltella in scioltezza lungo le mappe che si sviluppano secondo uno scorrimento laterale, rendendo l'esperienza perfettamente godibile anche se non sostanziosa dal punto di vista della varietà. Questo Re-Pac di quel gioco che ebbe un discreto successo più di vent'anni fa si dimostra perlopiù diretto ai nostalgici del titolo originale, desiderosi di rimettere le mani su una delle loro prime esperienze ludiche sulla storica PlayStation, i quali potranno dunque ritenersi soddisfatti dalla nuova proposta Bandai-Namco. Chi non prova già da tempo un affetto smisurato per Pac-Man World non troverà nel Re-Pac un motivo utile a riscoprire questa piccola gemma del passato, ad ennesima dimostrazione di quanto il mondo dei videogiochi si sia evoluto da quel lontanissimo 1999.

Soul Hackers 2 does an commendable job of presenting another solid JRPG experience, albeit one that suffers from a lack of quality and variety in areas where it could have been bolder in its execution. A sense of similarity aside, it’s still a worthwhile story to follow and fans of the franchise will find more than enough to keep them happy, even if there aren’t quite enough new and fresh ideas here to set it apart from the pack. The Persona shadow continues to hover over the rest of the Atlus stable, and it remains a high-quality ceiling to beat.

Visually, SD Gundam Battle Alliance makes an adept showing on Switch. Although the game could use more environments for battles, these venues are attractive. While the models themselves are the Super Formed variety, there’s an indulging amount of detail devoted to the Mobile Suits. As such, it would have been great to have a photo component, to stage, capture, share, (and optionally virtually panel line?) some of your Gundam. When it comes to performance, Battle Alliance consistently stayed above thirty frames-per-second while maintaining some respectable draw distances. Despite a few small (and ultimately forgivable) issues with boss encounters and coercing players into grinding, SD Gundam Battle Alliance is an accomplishment. As an action game with light role-playing elements, it’s just good enough to recommend for those unacquainted with the world of Gundam. With Sakura as your chaperone don’t be surprised if Gunpla starts competing with gaming for your recreational time and income. For those acquainted with the source material, Battle Alliance feels like scrumptious fan-service, served up in SD form.

Destroy All Humans! 2: Reprobed does a fine job of updating the 2006 original to look like a modern game, but that game was a fairly unambitious sequel that didn’t do much to evolve its gameplay. And while I’d be fine with a somewhat repetitive story that breaks up its missions with comedy, this is some solid C+ material that only occasionally lands a chuckle – and more often some serious cringes. Split-screen co-op makes it more enjoyable to blast through and combat does eventually get tougher when bulkier enemies join the fray, but by and large it’s more of the same B-movie sci-fi homage without a lot of brain-popping new ideas.

Sparatorie fuori di testa, una riuscita sceneggiatura che mischia comicità a luoghi comuni, e non per ultimo un restauro grafico di altissimo livello, rendono Destroy All Humans! 2 Reprobed un ottimo remake che siamo convinti saprà divertire tanto coloro che hanno già amato la saga, quanto i giocatori che invece ancora non vi si sono mai avvicinati prima. Sfortunatamente il titolo soffre di una struttura delle missioni alquanto ripetitiva e tipica degli open world di sedici anni fa, ma nel complesso riesce comunque a coinvolgere l'utente grazie a un'immediatezza che di questi tempi è diventata dannatamente rara.
