While Valkyrie Elysium is certainly not the next coming of the beloved PlayStation JRPG Valkyrie Profile, there are parts that shine. Sure, it's not a visual powerhouse, it suffers from some occasionally aggravating camera issues, and the tale it weaves doesn’t leave you and your friends with much to discuss and dissect. But Elysium’s new take on combat does eventually grow into something fun and satisfying to play, and that’s enough to carry it through – just not to stand out.

Overwatch 2 is a lot of things, but a proper sequel to the original Overwatch is not one of them. Although a few new maps and heroes are welcome, and the gameplay itself remains just as enjoyably intense as it always was, there is nothing here that feels innovative or notable enough to justify that ‘2’ in the title. At this stage, Overwatch 2 feels more like a few updates Blizzard could have pushed to the original release. Couple this with the heightened focus on monetization and the absence at launch of the promised co-op story content, and you’re left with an experience that feels like it falls short of the potential it had. As a live service free-to-play game, perhaps time will eventually see this new release grow in fresh and unexpected ways to eventually prove itself a worthy sequel, but the game we have at launch feels just ‘fine’. At any rate, it costs you nothing but time to try, and it is just about as fun in a match as it always has been. As long as you’re not too bothered by what it could have been, we’d recommend giving Overwatch 2 a shot.

Overwatch 2 breathes new life into what was once the sharpest multiplayer shooter around, before it had its edges severely dulled by Blizzard’s attention shifting away. The switch to smaller 5v5 matches ushers in a new brawler age for Overwatch where individual duels take precedence over tactical team play, and crucially, all but a handful of shields have been thrown out of the arena. The new heroes and maps hit the mark, while Push is one mode that could develop into a fan favourite over time. The fundamentals are all set for Overwatch to shine as it once did in the multiplayer shooter scene once again, and the future definitely looks bright with what is set to come over the following months. I can’t review Overwatch 2 on what it could potentially be though, and instead can only judge what’s in front of me at launch – and that is a very fun team-based FPS, packed full of charm and love for the world it takes place in, and one that I can’t wait to lose hundreds more hours playing in.

Overwatch 2 is so damn good. 5v5 has breathed life into the game, Junkerqueen, Sojourn, and Kiriko are a breath of fresh air, and the game’s new high pace suits its competitive nature perfectly. The new maps are insanely fun to play, albeit with some needing tweaking, and the new Push gamemode only enhances Overwatch 2’s core experience. The only downside comes from its cosmetic-locked, 9-week battle pass system, which will be costly to continually purchase.

What feels like the foundation for something ideally more substantial lying in wait, Arkanoid – Eternal Battle can only muster up a competent, but unimaginative, spin on the Taito classic in Battle Royale form. That’s not to say that its core mode doesn’t at least find a way to tempt you back for another round umpteen times over, but eventually the more you repeat its disappointingly shallow progression — and worst of all, its egregiously-difficult and frustrating final face-off — the more you feel your time is spent not cunningly plotting a course to victory, but instead merely wasted on a concept that should be better fleshed out. Eternal Battle is not without good ideas in spots, and while the effort on bringing another retro classic into the BR fold is appreciated, it’s far from the most emergent or compelling of takes in the sub-genre.

Non avete più scuse. NieR Automata è ora arrivato, nativo, persino su Nintendo Switch; con una The End of YoHRa Edition comprensibilmente levigata, un po’ più spoglia che su PS4 (molto più spoglia che su PC), ma portatile, fluidissima (30 fps granitici restano un obiettivo non da poco per la console su cui, pare, Kingdom Hearths non è stato possibile…) e immutata. Nei contenuti di storia e lore, nella giocabilità, nei tecnicismi: nell’anima. E se NieR ci ha insegnato qualcosa, e lo ha fatto, è che l’anima è ciò che più conta, ciò che ci rende umani. Se il titolo manca nella vostra collezione, questa è l’edizione più “comoda” su cui cimentarsi. Ma anche se su PS4 o PC avete mancato qualche finale, e non avete proprio tempo di rimettervi alla scrivania tra un viaggio e un altro, a causa del lavoro o degli impegni, devo spiegarvi forse perché dovreste pensarci? Solo qualora foste dei veterani completisti, già navigati su tutti i finali, le novel, i prequel, persino già “istruiti” sugli strascichi della serie Drakengard, per capirci, potreste non avere più voglia di vedere 2B in azione, specialmente su Switch. Potreste, ecco, magari invece sì. Non ho altro da aggiungere.

Foretales est un petit bijou d’inventivité. Le jeu de cartes réinvente le genre et propose des personnages hauts en couleurs, auxquels on s’attache très rapidement. L’ambiance mixte entre jeu de rôle et vraie narration arrive facilement à nous happer. Il manque malheureusement ce petit quelque chose, ce choix vraiment décisif pour en faire un incontournable, mais Foretales est tout de même un jeu unique qu’il est plaisant de découvrir.

This is the fifth time Switch owners have been asked to pay at least $40 for little more than updated kits and rosters, and the fifth time we urge you not to reward such disrespect with your hard-earned money. FIFA 23 still plays a good game of football but so did all the other identical ones, so if you absolutely must have a football game on Switch, track down a cheap copy of FIFA 19-22.

No Place for Bravery è un titolo ambizioso: cerca di proporre tematiche profonde, attinte tra l'altro direttamente dalla vita privata degli sviluppatori, all'interno di un mondo angosciante, nel quale il protagonista è costantemente spinto ad interrogarsi sul senso della fine; attinge a piene mani tutte le meccaniche utili da titoli quali God of War, i vari Souls e The Legend of Zelda; si propone infine come action-RPG (ma è anche più di questo) in due dimensioni, arricchito da una splendida pixel art e da una colonna sonora sinceramente memorabile. Direzione artistica a parte, tuttavia, si fa presto a dimenticare No Place for Bravery, in virtù di un gameplay tanto vario e tecnico quanto poco profondo, di una narrazione suggestiva ma breve e priva di grandi guizzi creativi, e anche di qualche problemino di ottimizzazione. Non parliamo di un brutto videogioco, ma di un prodotto complessivamente appena più che discreto, il quale avrebbe dovuto forse limitarsi a pochi spunti, insistendovi però convintamente. Potrebbe comunque convincervi: del resto, una possibilità non la si nega a nessuno.

Arkanoid : Eternal Battle est un excellent retour pour une licence phare des jeux arcade des années 80. Il pourra plaire aux joueurs souhaitant passer de petits moments de gaming entre deux réunions de boulot mais également aux plus habitués d'entre nous des jeux de casse-brique comme Tetris 99. Bravo à Pastagames qui démontre une nouvelle fois, à l'instar de Dotemu, le talent des studios français et l'amour et le respect de l'histoire du jeu vidéo.

Return To Monkey Island is the unexpected comeback of a classic, well-loved franchise. And it earned its return. It’s a modernised, streamlined point-and-click adventure that channels the evergreen charm of the series into a new age with a balanced mix of new and old. The fantastic writing is maybe geared towards the old fans more, but newcomers to the series can see through all that Monkey Island has to offer, thanks to the thoughtful in-game hints. For fans of the good old days, make some time to Return To Monkey Island. It’s an amazing adventure, and you will rediscover why you love the series so much in the first place.
