Non andando in alcun modo a intaccare ciò che di buono è stato fatto dal suo predecessore, New Tales from the Borderlands è una nuova e vibrante avventura ambientata nell'universo folle di Gearbox e 2K. Le vicende di Anu, Octavio e Fran sono sicuramente ciò che i fan speravano di ricevere per questo sequel, senza fare in alcun modo sentire la mancanza del team Telltale. Certo, parliamo comunque di un gioco che non va oltre i binari dettati dal primo capitolo del 2014, ma lamentarsi di questo in un'avventura fondata su scelte e narrazione (e con classe da vendere) è sicuramente ingiusto.

Gotham Knights is a consistently disappointing return to Batman’s troubled city and a distinct step backwards from the past decade-plus of Batman games. Even if running around Gotham in two-player co-op can be decent fun and each of the four playable crime fighters are well executed in their dialogue and distinctive moves, too many of the fundamentals fall short for me to recommend it. From the inconsistent frame rates, to the weak story, to one-note combat that rarely feels good, there was virtually always something going wrong to make sure I wasn’t experiencing the triumphant return with my friends at my side I had envisioned.

Gotham City might never have looked better, but Gotham Knights’ gameplay repetition and lack of length to the main narrative might deter all but the most hardcore Batman fans. Co-op adds a fun layer to all the crime fighting, and every character feels truly different from one another, even if the combat system takes some getting used to. Overall, there is a solid core here that hopefully can be built on in the future.

Gotham Knights is the type of game you so dearly want to love, but time and time again it gives you a reason not to. What Warner Bros. Games Montreal has here is an excellent story with top-notch cutscene direction and a fun combat system, with too many needless and confusing mechanics bolted on top. If you can look past them, there's a genuinely great game here. We recommend trying your best to do so; you'll find a compelling narrative on the other side.

Par son gameplay simple, Vampire Survivors n'est pas un titre qui va révolutionner le jeu vidéo. Pourtant, son principe très addictif aura de quoi vous captiver pendant des heures. Grâce à un sentiment de montée en puissance continu, le titre parvient à capter constamment l'attention du joueur qui doit faire face aux vagues impressionnantes et interrompues d'ennemis, quitte à ne plus rien voir à l'écran. Un principe si efficace qu'il parvient à faire oublier ses graphismes très simples, ainsi que son contenu un peu limité qui s'expliquent notamment par le très petit prix du jeu. Il ne reste plus qu'à attendre les prochaines mises à jour pour voir si le titre réussira à se faire définitivement un nom dans le genre du rogue-lite.

Ne vous y méprenez pas, il ne s'agit pas un simple Mario + Lapins Crétins 2.0 mais bien d'une suite dans son propre univers, plus noir, mais tellement plus jouissif ! Préparez-vous bon un grand combat, une grande aventure, et plein de possibilités d'améliorations pour vos personnages. Ce titre vous tiendra en haleine de nombreuses heures et même encore plus que le précédent. Un incontournable pour tous les possesseurs de la, vieillissante, console de Nintendo qui prouve encore aujourd'hui qu'elle peut vous rendrez heureux.

Vampire Survivors initially feels like a nice bite-sized adventure, something to dip into now and then for the joy of orchestrating a little mayhem as the heart of bullet hell rather than its recipient. For the first few rounds, which generally last maybe ten minutes or so, it may not even feel like much more than a fun little time waster, and then the reward path opens up. A little extra power, a new level, new characters and the satisfying feeling of growth leading to true battlefield mayhem lead deeper into the game, with each new discovery layering onto the previous ones in a way that makes it almost impossible to resist the call of starting another run. Even when playing for the fun of it rather than chasing after a goal there are so many characters and upgrade options that each game is different than the last, running a constant balance between working a favorite build, finding something new,and making the best of the level-up items when they’re not what you would have hoped. Vampire Survivors is a long slow burn that never stops getting hotter, maybe not quite the first of the genre it ignited, but certainly the best.

Vampire Survivors è un titolo sorprendente e ben confezionato, sostenuto da una formula capace di rapire l’utenza per trascinarla in un continuo susseguirsi di battaglie pirotecniche ad alta intensità. Mettendo al centro della proposta un gameplay loop semplice ma efficace, Poncle ha costruito un’esperienza densa di meccaniche premiali, somministrate con perizia per spingere l’utenza in un tunnel fatto di assuefazione e divertimento. Figlio di un talento per il game design che speriamo continui a stupirci negli anni a venire, Vampire Survivors è quindi un titolo che vale assolutamente la pena di provare, specialmente considerando il costo irrisorio dell’opera di Luca Galante.

The best thing you can say about New Tales from the Borderlands is that it makes you appreciate just how good the folks at Telltale Games were at what they did. While Gearbox’s latest is more technically impressive than Telltale’s series, stale, irritating characters, a slapdash plot, and choices that don’t feel like they matter turn the game’s brief runtime into a slog. These Tales are new, but they’re definitely not improved.

Le cycle semble se répéter, un peu comme le problème majeur de Borderlands 3 est la comparaison avec le 2, New Tales from the Borderlands se heurte au parallèle avec le jeu de Telltale. Des efforts ont clairement été faits au niveau de l’incarnation des personnages et de l’interactivité de l’histoire (quitte à se faire au détriment de la rejouabilité) mais tout ceci est mis au service d’une aventure peu mémorable. Le nouveau cast n’arrive pas à s’imposer ce qui est d’autant plus dommage quand les têtes connues ne sont même pas là pour leur faire de l’ombre. Le jeu n’a ni fan service ni utilisation intéressante de l’univers pour lui apporter quelque chose de neuf, tout en restant trop ancré dans Borderlands ce qui risque donc mettre à mal à la fois les amateurs de la saga mais aussi ceux de jeux narratifs.
