Avec Soulstice, les développeurs de Reply Game Studios ont probablement créé leur jeu le plus ambitieux. Beat’em up nerveux se déroulant dans un univers qui rappelle le manga Claymore, il joue sur la dualité des champs de force (évocation, bannissement) et sur un mélange d’exploration, de puzzles et d’action pour les amoureux du genre. Malheureusement, le manque de moyens se fait sentir sur la longueur et on peste très souvent contre une caméra mal réglée et des problèmes techniques évidents (ralentissements, copier-coller à outrance, textures d’un autre temps…). Sans parler de ce jongle permanent au niveau des touches latérales de la manette. Au final, Soulstice est un jeu loin d’être inintéressant, mais qui est à réserver aux fans du genre et aux amateurs de scoring.

If you just can’t get enough of the style of action-slasher that Hideki Kamiya made popular in the United States over 20 years ago, Soulstice might help scratch the itch – at least while you’re in combat. The setting and story, even with its strong pair of main characters, are largely just a bland backdrop for its generally competent and challenging hack-and-slash battles against some deviously fun and interesting enemies. So long as you have the stomach and willpower to trudge back and forth through its tedious, linear levels and wrangle its unruly camera in the midsts of colorful, screen-filling chaos, those fights are the light at the end of the tunnel.

Combining a well-realized dark fantasy setting inspired by Claymore and Berserk and an engaging story with solid action gameplay inspired by some of the best character action games, Soulstice is a competent action title. Unfortunately, issues like the horrible camera and the mediocre handling of color-coded enemies and mechanics impact the experience, preventing it from being the great character action game it had the potential to be

Soulstice supone un hack & slash de manual que acusa una falta de riesgo y de apego por ciertos patrones de diseño que le hacen más bien que mal. Su sistema de combate, interesante de base, queda desplazado por una trama y un sistema de progresión que cuentan con más protagonismo del que deberían. Sin embargo, si echas en falta más tortas en tu día a día videolúdico, su propuesta te entregará la dopamina demandada mediante sus mejores enfrentamientos.

Soulstice does an exceptional job of keeping the player engaged throughout its entirety. The amount of content just within the combat is jaw-dropping, so much so that it feels like Reply Game Studios aren’t saving anything for a sequel. There’s a lot to discover (and a lot to master) as you slowly trek through its massive world and uncover one of the most enjoyable detective-style stories that I’ve come to experience.

Soulstice est un jeu qui respire la passion, mais qui n'a malheureusement pas eu les moyens de ses ambitions. Cela reste un bon défouloir sur lequel on peut passer quelques heures, mais qui n'arrive malheureusement pas à nous tenir en haleine. Il ne lui manque pas pourtant pas grand-chose pour être un très bon jeu et l'on souhaite sincèrement que le prochain jeu issu de ce talentueux studio soit le bon.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero è un JRPG in cui si respira una salutare aura nostalgica. Per quanto risulti un semplice porting ripulito il minimo indispensabile rispetto all'uscita originale, il cuore della giocabilità è rimasto invariato e potente. La citta-stato di Crossbell mantiene intatto il suo fascino soft steampunk. I piccoli chioschi, i negozi, i diversi quartieri: vivere le varie zone della città è uno dei piaceri che il gioco sa regalare. L'aura nostalgica che ammanta The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero mette in qualche modo una pezza su un comparto tecnico figlio del suo tempo. Il gioco, forte di un sistema di combattimento appagante e riuscito, risulta sempre piacevole, con protagonisti azzeccati e una narrazione piuttosto avvincente, al netto di qualche logorrea di troppo. Speriamo solo che la versione per PlayStation 4 riceva una patch per mettersi in pari con quelle per PC e Switch.
