I have more good memories than bad with One Piece: Unlimited World Red, but speaking frankly this still isn’t the title to pull the series from its pit of “okay experiences”. It’s more than a step in the right direction, it’s a big jump forward and can be engaging and fun for the right people, but it’s still not the well-polished and considerate creation the franchise needs to really make an impression on the videogame market. I really want this series to have a solid hit, but this still isn’t quite the one.

I’m glad that I played Sniper Elite V2 as it gave me a deep appreciation for all of the things Rebellion has brought to the table for the sequel. With expanded set pieces, better sniping mechanics, and an even more visceral look into what happens when bullet impacts blood and bone, they really have nailed that aspect of their product. While the AI may be dumb as a post, scoring a long distance headshot without the aim assist reticule and slow motion feels like you’ve accomplished the impossible time and time again. For the few things that aren’t quite up to snuff, Sniper Elite III gets a whole lot right.

Every Warriors game has marched to the sound of its own drummer, and Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn is no exception. It certainly is one of the best entries in the series, and it covers a larger span of the anime's timelines and alternate lore than its predecessors. But outside of its exceptional appetite for action that’s all one should expect. This game is great value for the money as long as you know what you’re buying.

Grid Autosport is magnificent in racing and pretty terrible everywhere else. The races themselves are challenging, spirited, and have both great track responsiveness and opponent AI. The game fails, however, when it takes players freedom of choice away in many aspects, dumbing them down to mercenary drivers. Unfortunately bad presentation and the lack of basic functions from other racing games is a harsh subtraction for a full price game. Grid Autosport could have been a great game, and points to a magnificent future for the series and Codemasters. But Grid Autosport is not a great game. It is a fun game with a great racing mechanic, trapped in the musky husk of a quickly slapped together post-PlayStation 4 era PS3 release. Let Grid Autosport be the harbinger for things to come on the PlayStation 3. For both the GRID series and PlayStation 3 clingers-on, the message is clear: evolve or become obsolete.

Ace Combat Infinity is a lot of fun and Project Aces are masters of their craft, however its free-to-play approach seems a bit muddled. The resupply rate of fuel, the price of add-ons and the content you get for it, while well balanced individually, becomes a mess when pulled together. As a free game this is definitely worth taking for a spin, but as monetary investment this title still needs to find its wings.

Ultra Street Fighter IV, I do like thee, even though you have brought out the violent urges of myself and many other young gamers throughout the past few generations. The current generation has not been let down with this ultimate version of a great 2D-style fighting game. Ultra Street Fighter IV is affordable in the face of the high amount of new content the game adds. New characters, new stages, changes to the mechanics, gameplay, and numerous other high-level upgrades makes for a great experience that can be appreciated for a long, long time. Innovations with the combo meter and multiple versions of fighters only add intrigue and depth to a solid effort. A great game well worth a play.

Mugen Souls Z looks like it does a lot of things right on paper. A story that isn’t cliche, a battle system with more depth than the typical “each party lines up on opposite sides and waits for everyone’s turn,” and a way to encounter monsters without killing them. Instead the story, one-dimensional characters, and lolita factor make Mugen Souls Z a niche RPG aimed at a very specific audience. If Idea Factory can pull the reigns in a bit and concentrate on the portions that are done right, I can see them having an RPG hit on their hands. Instead, we are left with too many questionable decisions that detract from the game.

A Realm Reborn fits well into the scene of MMORPG’s today while still retaining its identity as a Final Fantasy entry. Even so, while it does have a few genuinely novel features, it fails to add much to an already stagnant genre. If you like MMO’s and are looking for that next fix, then I suggest A Realm Reborn over its competitors, but if you have the means, then I’d say you should pick up the PC version of the game.

As a general rule - when your game’s release date is just a year after the first, but you’ve more than doubled the amount of content, you might want to rethink that timeframe. The team has been hard at work on these issues, and there have been frequent updates since release, each nailing down small portions of bugs and balance issues, but it’s hard to make a second first impression. Despite the technical issues, NeocoreGames ultimately delivers more of what we fell in love with in the first Van Helsing title. Hopefully they take a little more time to iron things out to conclude this very compelling trilogy.

At the end of the day, Soul Sacrifice Delta is a great looking game with an engrossing story, killer soundtrack and an in depth customization system - the only thing really holding this impressive handheld title back is the repetitive nature of its monster hunting gameplay. If you can get past its faults, then you’ll find yourself playing one of the most engaging and satisfying action RPG’s on the PS Vita.

Ultimately Spider’s follow up to Mars: War Logs is a far better effort than its predecessor. You can’t help but appreciate the effort put forth, as well as the fantastic concepts and new approach to storytelling. Bound by Flame provides engaging mechanics and choices that actually matter, if you can stomach the horrible voice work.

While a lot of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 fails to impress, there is a decent amount of potential to be had in this Beenox product. It is clear that Beenox is a talented developer, but being forced into developing a movie-game that has a predetermined release date is a near impossible situation for anyone. Here’s to hoping that brighter futures are in front of Beenox. If not, there will most certainly be a new Amazing Spider-Man heading our way in a few years.

I’ve played quite a few Kirby games, and Kirby: Triple Deluxe may very well be my new favorite. It has perfected the platforming experience and has more content than even Kirby could fit into his fat mouth.
