Still, despite the microtransaction-fueled nature of My Player it’s hard not to admire the sheer amount of stuff to do in NBA 2K20. That, and just how detailed and realistic the game is on the court. Casual NBA fans and hardcore 2K players have many different ways to play. That ranges from casual friendly matches to serious money tournaments that you’ll find in My Team if you’re good enough. With NBA 2K20 there’s once again ton of game modes to sink your teeth into, even if they all taste a bit like 2k19.

Catherine: Full Body didn’t really change my opinion on Catherine all that much. I’m still as conflicted as I was in 2011 with a love for the art style and weirdness of the game. The uninspired puzzles that make up the rest of it wear out their welcome too quickly though.

While it may take a little bit to get going, the intimate story found in Oninaki is well worth the wait as long as you can get past the load times. Combining the story with the varied Daemon based combat, Oninaki proves that Tokyo RPG Factory is not simply built on nostalgia and definitely has the chops to make a captivating modern RPG.

Madden 20 does very little in this year’s game to impress, but it doesn’t do anything that truly disappoints. What it offers is a competent and refined football experience with a stellar presentation and plenty of modes to play.

Metal Wolf Chaos XD is a totally unique experience that is worthwhile for anyone who’s a fan of early 2000’s action, or satirical and off-the-wall humor. The over-the-top feel of both the gameplay and story makes for a truly enjoyable experience, though it won’t last long and isn’t excellent for repeat plays. If you’ve been dying for this to make its way to the West this is a totally serviceable release, but those seeking a more robust remaster might be disappointed.

If you like the building, crafting, and collecting aspects of something like Minecraft, but wanted a little more structure, Dragon Quest Builders 2 is an easy recommendation whether you’re a Dragon Quest fan or not.

While Kay’s emotional journey of self-discovery does not pull punches as she learns why she has become a lonely monster, Sea of Solitude struggles to stay afloat at times due to unimaginative gameplay that struggles to evolve beyond the opening moments of the game.

The wait for a new Ace Attorney game still continues, so Capcom has instead decided to bring the original trilogy to even more platforms. Now built for consoles rather than exclusively as a handheld title, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy still maintains the same charm and gameplay the series has always been known for over the years while looking cleaner than ever.

Darksiders 3 is a much different game than its predecessors. The ideas here aren’t bad, so much as they are poorly executed. There’s still an interesting story and great presentation to experience, but you’ll likely have to overlook the technical issues even if the core gameplay suits you.

Where the base game faltered due to content and plot constraints, Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle is the full-blown sequel we’ve all been waiting for. Of course that is only if you didn’t already pick up that base release and found it lacking. As DLC this is a great addition, but at a fairly hefty price tag. Once that comes down, everyone should pick it up, but until then it feels like the best way to join in on the fun if you missed it the first time around.

Super Neptunia RPG is a diamond in the rough. It has the potential to be the best spin-off to date, but is so marred by gameplay issues and bugs that its successes are often overshadowed. Unless you’re in love with Neptunia, then I’d suggest waiting for a patch. Hell, wait anyway.

Heavy Rain was quite the unique release in 2010 and is still worth a look for genre fans. This PC re-release improves a lot of things about that original experience, but doesn't go as far as it could in some respects.

Samurai Shodown does not disappoint. Despite the inconsistent tutorials and generic single player content, this is a game that can appeal to players of any experience level. Newcomers will relish the opportunity to jump in and feel like they’re button presses actually have an impact, while experienced players will appreciate its tone and commitment to the neutral game. Its slow pace belies a depth that rivals any fighting game, while still providing an experience unlike almost any other. If the stunning visuals don’t leave you breathless, then the unrelenting tension felt during combat certainly will.
