Sure, Horgihugh and Friends might not be quite as cute as Cotton or Deathsmiles, but it offers solid gameplay and a top-tier soundtrack. Classic shoot 'em up fans won’t be disappointed.

Although annoyance is nearly inevitable, Souldiers’ counterbalances its transgressions with aesthetic splendor. The game’s artist must have extensively studied Capcom’s work of the 90s. From the cartoonish take on European-themed interiors or the vibrant colors in outdoor settings that evoke the Mega Man X series, almost every single bitmap will produce pangs of nostalgia. This was one of my favorite visual eras in gaming, and Souldiers’ artwork feels like a warmhearted throwback. Few of the fundamentals in Souldiers feel unique. Largely, that’s OK, because the game draws on beloved classics. There’s Metroid’s thrill of exploration and the anxiety of finding the next save point. Combat is persistently tense. Like many Soulslikes, even minor enemies can steal a significant portion of your health. And of course, there’s the first boss battle, intended to provoke humility. But the reliance of recognizable elements doesn’t dimmish Souldiers enjoyment. Just make sure, you’re okay with the sporadic instance of frustration.

“Cheaters never win” isn’t an adage that applies to Card Shark. Unlike most gambling games, dishonesty is mandatory, making this a wonderfully distinctive title.

LIGHTKRAVTE’s biggest technical contribution is a character animation system that allows for dynamic gestures and facial expressions. It’s not used throughout the entire game, so there are often CGs between animations, but it helps bring the novel characters to life, especially since there’s still no voice acting. Coming from a doujin, it’s an amazing feat that when coupled with Konatsu’s attractive artistry, offers visual delight. This is undoubtedly one good looking novel that strives to look like anime, with a camera that occasionally zooms and pans across gorgeous backdrops. Pleasingly, LIGHTKRAVTE’s user interface is convenient and responsive. The title offers 32 save slots, which is sufficient for a non-branching kinetic novel. If you miss part of a conversation or soliloquy, an upward twist on your mouse’s scroll wheel brings up the backlog. Save for a couple of typos, the novel’s localization is adept, with language that subtlety signifies social class. The first hour or two of fault – StP – LIGHTKRAVTE probably won’t provoke interest. But give ALICE IN DISSONANCE latest a bit of time and it will gradually and insistently pull you in. While some unanswered questions arise after the conclusion, these are outweighed by moments of reflection, occasional instances of humor, and tides of emotion. Even if we don’t get to see Khaji again, it was time well-spent and provides insight into Rughzenahide’s rich history.

Most military action has given up on single-player action to focus on the competitive component. Sniper Elite 5 can let humans into your campaign to hunt you down. However, the focus here remains on delivering a wonderfully intense experience for soloists.

Developer Matrix Software didn’t take many chances with Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia, a follow-up that arrives twenty-four years after the original game. Conceptually, the game is still enjoyable, but predictable AI, typo-tarnished menus, and strategy that's not too deep limits long-term enjoyment.

While there’s a plethora of puzzles titles, few efforts are as laidback as Lumote: The Mastermote Chronicles. There’s a strong chance that you’ll encounter the sporadic roadblock, as you struggle to find a solution. But you’re never rushed, making shorter play sessions the preferred way of enjoying the game. Luminawesome Games’ approach to game design should be commended, even if they’re implementation leaves you longing for more variety.

hese kinds of elements demonstrate an affluence of imagination within the staff at Implausible Industries. Many of the ideas and much of the execution conveys an invigorating sense of creativity. Perhaps that will be enough to counterbalance the feeling of being repeatedly subjugated by the Supernatural across the game’s dozen territories. Maybe it’s a case of digital Stockholm Syndrome, but I keep returning to the game, eager for more abuse.

If you can get past that hindrance, then Defend the Rook can offer enjoyment. Unlike most turn-based, gridded battlers, it runs at a quick pace. From supplemental damage dished out by towers to a restrained number of adventurers to manage, Rook keeps things moving at a rollicking rate. While the fight waves of foes can get repetitive even with the random perks, there are a few unlockable characters and modifiers that attempt to maintain interest. Yet, if any of this interests you, I’d have to recommended the mouse-based control scheme and larger screen of the Steam version over the Switch version.
