Fortunately, SturmFront’s other faults are somewhat forgivable. There’s no cooperative play, which is disappointing since most of the game’s inspirations accommodated duos. Much like the rest of the game, the soundtrack conveys a sense of power. But there’s little technical nuance rooted in the riffs, unlike the strains found in something like Guilty Gear. While the ten-dollar price is fair, a much better deal can be found on Steam, where it currently sells for five dollars. SturmFront – The Mutant War: Übel Edition isn’t going to appeal to everyone. But if you appreciate the simplicity of early nineties twin-stick shooters, this is worth a consideration. There’s gratification rooted in taking command of rapid-fire weaponry and destroying everything that moves, especially in short-term doses.

Ideally, Monster Truck Championship would follow the system of most modern racers, extending various amounts of control-based assistance. Undoubtedly, many of the game’s events are fun, but racing in particular requires a substantial amount of proficiency. Sure, there’s enough enjoyment in the other event to provide a recommendation for fans of vehicular sports. But a balanced difficulty could have opened up the game to fans who might overlook monster truck derbies.

Will you fall head over heels for Sir Lovelot? Only, if you’re thirsting for a challenging platformer that exhibits a bit of leniency. More likely, you’ll enjoy a weekend tryst with the passionate knight before moving onto the next potential suitor. What’s here is enjoyable, and shirks the frustration of many peers, but doesn’t seem to court long-term commitment.
