The most frustrating thing about Silent Hill Downpour isn’t the lousy combat, dull exploration, or even the technical gaffes. It’s the fact that every now and then while playing through the game’s story, you’ll see signs of brilliance; sunlight hinted from behind the overcast sky. From the Otherworld sequences to the interesting protagonist as well as the way the very town itself is molded to Murphy’s past all make for a game that could’ve really been something special for the series. However, all of the aforementioned issues play their role in making Downpour an unfun, disappointing experience.

If you've dedicated the past three years to IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey, your next purchase has arrived. Birds of Steel picks up directly where Birds of Prey left off; instantly accessible and yet hugely challenging, depending on how you tune it. The environments are huge, the plane list is long plus it looks gorgeous and sounds great. The action is thick and visceral; aerial stoushes can go from tense, one-on-one affairs to grand, epic encounters against swarms of enemy fighters and bombers. For three years Gaijin's Birds of Prey remained the best and most nuanced flight game on consoles. Birds of Steel builds on the excellent Birds of Prey and refines Gaijin's formula further. Birds of Steel is an exceedingly confident and robust game that will reward fans with its depth and detail. It's easily the best flight game on today's consoles.

Wargame: European Escalation won’t set any new benchmarks, but it’s a good RTS game with a strong community. A couple thousand players are usually online during peak hours, and thousands of sessions are run every day, so there’s no doubt you’ll find people to play with. It’s fun, competitive, and features short sessions that normally last under a half-hour. If you’re an RTS gamer looking for a new battlefield, you’ll definitely want to give Wargame a try

MLB 12: The Show continues the legacy of being the best baseball game on the market. The best looking, the best playing, the most realistic, and the most robust. It’d be nice if San Diego Studios could get their presentation up to par with MLB 2K. Modes like Diamond Dynasty breathe some life into the game, distracting players from the more dated feeling Road to the Show. If you love baseball, The Show is made for you.

All told, Mass Effect 3 is an absolutely amazing game, one that successfully puts a bow on the Mass Effect trilogy while still leaving us hungry for even more. It looks and plays great, but Mass Effect 3's true strength lies in its ability to tell a deeply-woven story. Better yet, the sheer ambition shown by BioWare in announcing an intersecting trilogy complete with save importation becomes fully realized in Mass Effect 3. BioWare deserves applause for not only having the courage to attempt something like the Mass Effect trilogy, but for pulling it off with such exceptional poise and skill. Mass Effect 3 isn't the best game ever made. But it'll certainly be in the conversation for a very long time to come.

Unit 13 doesn't have flashy visuals or an in-depth campaign, but it does have good controls and plenty to do. I think the AI could use a tune-up and the visuals some polish, but if you're looking for a game to sink bullet after bullet into, Unit 13 will keep you entertained.

Baseball, with its intricate physics and extreme difficulty, is a terrifically challenging activity to emulate. Every year, developers get closer to showcasing the sport and its dynamic elements, but there has yet to be the perfect representation of the game. MLB 2K12 doesn't step far enough ahead of its predecessor to warrant a great change in the series, but its small polishes represent more distance traveled on the path towards the perfect game. MLB 2K12 has problems and may feel like a carbon copy to fans who only played a few games of MLB 2K11, but it's still a good game of ball.

The fast pace of the combat and fluidity of the tag mechanics truly bring Street Fighter X Tekken to the top of the fighting game heap. The Gem system is a fine addition that manages to do something daring by offering some new strategy to the fighting, and the two rosters complement each other very well. Street Fighter X Tekken is a fantastic fighting game that nails the basic fighting mechanics while daring to take a few risks with the formula as we know it; the pressure is on Namco Bandai to deliver something better with Tekken X Street Fighter.

One of the surprising things about Crusader Kings II is that, for a Paradox title, it's actually relatively easy to pick up. That said, this isn't for the faint of heart (or short on time), but if you're willing to bust your butt a little in the beginning to pick it up, it will reward you with a very enjoyable game experience in the end.

Those of you that played Flower might notice that Journey mirrors many of its predecessor's emotional milestones. Journey celebrates the poignancy of nature, it startles you with the unexpected, and empowers you in an exhilarating, unforgettable conclusion. The hours spent completing Journey will create memories that last for years.

Despite being somewhat shallow, it’s apparent that a lot of polish went into the making of PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond. The world and the characters within are amazingly well done - if only the game itself was more engaging. But too much repetition and too little depth hold it back from reaching the larger audience the core Pokemon games have enjoyed for years. As it stands, only very young kids - or those desperate to run around as Pikachu - will really get anything out of this game. That’s clearly what the intended audience was, and the developers succeeded at making a game that will appeal to that market. But as for everyone else, especially those who’ve already played the original, very similar PokePark Wii, we’d all do better to hold off for the next true Pokemon title.

SSX is the video game this generation has been missing. The feeble attempts of other, lesser snowboarding games to capture the adrenaline fueled excitement of SSX don’t compare at all. This is what happens when you don’t just put the game out every year, but spend your time crafting it, creating the ultimate experience. SSX redefines snowboarding games, raises the bar for the genre, then backflips over it.

Plants vs. Zombies rocked from the very first PC version, and I'm happy to report that the PlayStation Vita game is just as rad. Zombies in pole vault outfits are cute, strategizing against screen door shield-packing ghouls is brilliant, and the controls feel nearly perfect. Plants vs. Zombies continues to be one of the best games on any platform.

It’s hard to deny the value of buying a pool game on Vita and getting its PlayStation 3 counterpart as an added bonus. And graphically, Hustle Kings looks really nice. So despite the odd musical choices, spooky floating cue, bad connectivity, and annoying precision camera, Hustle Kings is still a good game.
