Choplifter HD is an ace experience for bite-sized sessions and marathons alike. The goofy sense of humor, varied missions, and simple yet evolving gameplay style is a winning combination. It doesn't hold the gripping, satisfying appeal of Trials HD, Pinball FX, or Geometry Wars, but Choplifter HD is a great distraction from your usual addictions.

I've enjoyed some of the earlier DSiWares developed by this same studio, but this pseudo-puzzler isn't as exciting. Give it a pass and wait another week or two -- this same company will probably be back again with yet another different design.

Super Crate Box is not without its merits, and when experienced in an iCade with physical buttons the experience is sublime. Unfortunately, standard iOS play only frustrates. Virtual buttons do not mix well with high score tables and instant deaths.

With the exception of a few controller-hurling quests, I enjoyed my time with All Zombies Must Die, but that doesn't mean I can let it pass for being such a shallow experience. Once you've taken your first quest from a gatekeeper and moved to the next area, you know what to expect for the rest of the game. That's not the worst thing in the world, but it's not the most exciting.

The lack of late hits and the inability to change the length of games don’t take away from the fact NFL Blitz is a whole lot of fun. Compounded by the fantastic announcers and ongoing unlocks, NFL Blitz is a great sports experience folded into a downloadable package.

My hat goes off to Running With Scissors to be ballsy enough to make yet another game that's completely unapologetic in its treatment of risque and taboo subject matter. It's hard to imagine anyone not being offended by Postal III. That's a big selling point for some folks, but the uninspired gameplay and serious technical glitches all but kill this dark, occasionally humorous, and extreme exercise in freedom of expression.

There’s a lot to like about Arkham City Lockdown, but there unfortunately isn’t much to love. The game is a fun way to pass the time, but lacks the fantastic story that’s made Rocksteady’s Arkham games so notable on consoles. This is Batman’s first big outing on iOS, and we can only hope that the Dark Knight’s next trip to the App Store will be bigger and better.

Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath is one of the more unique games to come out of the last generation. It may drag a bit at times and doesn’t do shooting or platforming amazingly well, but it blends the genres together into an almost always fun romp. Annoyances aside, Stranger’s Wrath stands the test of time as a good title and a testament to the love put into creating the Oddworld universe.

Whether alone or with a friend via local co-op, World Gone Sour can be strangely satisfying. While it’s a game that has its own set of problems, and while those problems hold the overall experience back, we’re talking about a five dollar download here. If anything, World Gone Sour proves two points: that product crossovers don’t have to suck (right, Yo! Noid?!) and that games on console downloadable services can be both cheap and entertaining. World Gone Sour won’t bend your mind with what it brings to table, but it won’t break the bank, either. There’s certainly something to be said about that.

Grand Theft Auto 3 was a technical marvel ten years ago. Seeing the experience all over again on a tiny screen evokes the same feeling of awe. It’s going to take a lot of retries and patience to beat Grand Theft Auto 3’s story and auto-aimed big battles (if at all), but the open world is truly legendary, today and a decade ago.

How fitting that the character Joe Danger is an aging relic being dusted off and put back in the saddle. The game mirrors its hero: classic and old fashioned, but still boasting the skills to amaze us. Joe Danger constantly surprises and delights. The clever level design encourages return visits to look for all the hidden goodies, much like a Mario platformer does. It's a joy ride.

There is the skeleton of a good game in here: a multiplayer-focused Smash Bros clone starring Cartoon Network characters. But it's just too buried under poor controls and a mediocre single player campaign to achieve fun status.

F1 experts have probably already been racing their way through the home console versions of this title since September. With the 3DS version's odd A.I., it's hard to recommend that Formula fans give this edition a go. Codemasters knows racing -- but when they pass off portable development to other teams, you've got to be wary.

Tintin only has itself to blame for its shortcomings: for every exciting moment there’s a turgid interlude which drags the overall experience down. While these distractions are more tedious bore than hair-pulling aggravation there’s no doubt their omission would’ve made for a tighter and ultimately better game. By shoe-horning variety into the game it loses its focus, which combined with silly game design decisions – the dogfights really should’ve been left on the drawing board – and a handful of game-breaking bugs – Tintin crashed on more than one occasion during review – it’s hard to recommend this to anyone other than diehard fans of both the comics and the movie.

Whereas the console version of Sonic Generations is a blending of old and new mentality in a fast-paced speed fest, the 3DS version is mostly just a Sonic Rush game where both playable characters happen to be Sonic. Fun platforming and nostalgia are all up in the game, but it’s actually a small step backwards for handheld hedgehog games. That shouldn’t stop any blue blur fans from enjoying themselves, but this isn’t the Sonic renaissance they may have expected.
