Captain America fans should only buy this game if they’re willing to put up with clunky gameplay and mediocre presentation. Marvel fanboys should approach with caution and everyone else should probably save their money for the sizeable list of quality games on the way to the handheld later this year. Aside from satisfactory brawling and shield-throwing, Captain America: Super Soldier on 3DS fails to deliver. It’s like Steve Rogers before the super serum - slow, average and totally uninteresting.

Addictive multiplayer will keep you coming back for more, especially with all the different ways to play. Single player has its moments, but some rough edges (invisible walls and less-than-stellar AI) make the whole package suffer. The new MI6 mode especially failed to capture my interest, though it might be worth toying around with. But considering multiplayer is inarguably the main course, GoldenEye 007: Reloaded won’t disappoint. While it lacks the charm of the original and the polish of other modern shooters, overall you’ll find a great experience that was just a few tweaks away from being amazing.

Creativity-infused cartoon combat blends perfectly with trick-or-treating nostalgia to give this humorous little download some tremendous pull. Costume Quest’s bold personality and utter charm mostly makes up for its more repetitive moments, and when you throw in the re-tooled save system and free DLC, the PC version is an alluring package. If your tastes lean more towards lighthearted fare instead of overt gore splatter, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better pick than this endearing Halloween-themed RPG.

Gameloft’s hot streak continues with Modern Combat 3. I’m looking forward to the day when the company takes its obvious talents and applies them to a truly original IP. But for the time being it’s hard to complain when the company’s clones keep turning out so damn good.

To the Moon is a challenging game to write about because the only real reason to play it is the story. I could go deeper into the plot, but spoiling it would be a great disservice to any potential players; suffice to say that the story is good enough to recommend this game despite its relatively weak gameplay. Playing through To the Moon was cathartic for me, not because I could identify with John’s specific lifetime experiences, but because the characters and their reactions – their emotional responses – all hit home with me. And I’d wager they’ll hit just about anyone, as To the Moon captures in six hours many of the difficulties and feelings of what it’s like to live with the memories of the great and terrible times in our own lives.

When you shut down Battlefield 3 and let the Frostbite 2-powered dust settle, it certainly has some problems. But DICE’s adoration of and expertise with the online experience permeates every aspect of its multiplayer. Regardless of the narrative missteps or the occasional glitches, Battlefield 3 offers an unforgettable, world-class multiplayer suite that's sure to excite shooter fans, whether they fired their first bullet in Battlefield 1942 or have just now heeded Battlefield's call of duty.

Throw this game into your system, put a Move controller into a friend's hand, and watch them jump around with a smile. That's the main draw with Everybody Dance, especially if you have a second Move controller to take advantage of the partner routines. But as a score-based video game, Everybody Dance misses a few steps. You don't get the full-body feedback you'd expect and the guide diagrams do a miserable job keeping you on track. If you want an all-around great dance game, look elsewhere.

Disney Universe is a worthwhile investment if you’re looking to introduce a child in your life to a more robust variety of game beyond the “my first video game”-type titles that essentially play themselves. Disney Universe provides an experience that can be enjoyed both solo and locally with co-op, so you’ll have options. Plus, the game comes with reasons to revisit stages and collectibles to keep you coming back for more. Disney Universe has its problems, but it’s a solid title bound to please its intended audience.

Might and Magic Heroes VI may have some issues with battlefield tactics in the late game and its story, but the strategy remains a blast nonetheless. Near infinite hours of gameplay await, and anyone looking for a well-made and addictive turn-based strategy game need go no further than this.

The Kinect invites a lot of bad ideas. The device is a technological marvel with some impressive software supporting it, absolutely, but even some of its great ideas go wrong. Blackwater isn't even a great idea. The first-person shooter is an empty attempt to exploit our love for modern military shooters, and it fails to meet even the lowest acceptable standard. This is a bad game from top to bottom, and it doesn't deserve a moment of your attention.

Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi is beautifully flawed. It has gameplay that actually captures the unique complexity, spirit and speed of the franchise, which is no small feat. Like I said before, it manages to make the anime look dated, and that's something few Dragon Ball games have done. Yet such an achievement does not come without faults. Characters operate too similarly, and there are a whole host of annoyances that pile up, the most offensive of which are the ubiquitous and unyielding loading screens. If I never see another DynoCap, it will be too soon.

Peter Parker complains constantly about his sweet Spider-Man abilities. "This isn't a gift," says the crybaby, "it's a curse." I'm starting to understand his suffering. PowerUp Heroes had the potential to be a great super-hero fighting game for Kinect. It winds up getting in its own way with aggressive repetition and motion controls that only work half the time.

As a whole, Pokemon Rumble Blast certainly has more to offer than its predecessor. With more to do, way more Pokemon to collect and far more areas to explore, the game certainly represents a step forward for the series - just not a big enough one. The unrefined graphics and bare bones presentation, paired with the already skimpy gameplay, make for a package that really should have been a 3DSWare title rather than a full release. If simple fun and the inclusion of Pokemon is all you’re looking for, then Rumble Blast is the game for you. Otherwise, there are much more deserving 3DS titles to spend your hard-earned cash on.

Kirby is not necessarily for you or me, but for our children, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. It is a whimsical, charming adventure that has clearly been designed for a younger audience first and others second. That's not a bad thing, but it does come with limitations. It's a little frustrating that Nintendo couldn't have aimed for both audiences at the same time, and I know when I was a kid I would have killed for the harder challenge, but you can only fault the game so much for that. If anything, Return to Dreamland is mostly disappointing because it doesn't really attempt to do anything we haven't seen before. Maybe games like Mass Attack, with its clever group-based gameplay, or Epic Yarn, with its bold visual style, have spoiled me, but I want to see Nintendo take risks with this franchise. I've seen Kirby as a typical platformer. Let him continue to be the canvas upon which talented designers can let their imaginations run wild. But originality, in the face of a capable and competent game that admittedly has few faults within its intended design, only matters so much. It might take six hours to get to what really interests me about Dreamland, but that's time very well spent for someone a fifth my age.
