If you skipped out on Marvel vs. Capcom 3 earlier this year or simply heard about the Ultimate version and opted to wait it out, you’ll find a lot to love in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The added characters round out the roster very nicely, bolstering the full lineup to potentially fifty. However, if you’re looking for something more than added characters and stages, UMvC3 doesn’t add much in the way of new features and modes, making the forty dollar price tag and retail-only package a little hard to swallow.

Need for Speed: The Run has a good racer inside it. It can be exciting and visceral, and there were numerous times in the game where I stopped and said, “Sh--, that was cool.” But all this awesome racing action gets somewhat lost amid the nonexistent story, the dumb/scripted AI, the lack of options, and the overall shortness of the game. The Run is not a marathon racing game, it's a quick and dirty drag race.

Despite adding a number of features, Assassin's Creed Revelations is very similar to its predecessors, and that's both its biggest strength and weakness. There's nothing wrong with Assassin's Creed. It's a great franchise with unique, compelling and well-designed gameplay. The catch is that we've effectively been doing similar things for the last several years now. Incremental upgrades are more than welcome, but at some point players need a new experience. That said, Revelations serves its lead characters well and is a very effective bookend. The improvements in graphics and storytelling, combined with already-great voice acting and music, help make this a memorable finale for some of the most interesting video game characters we've seen in this generation. Not even the weak new Den Defense mechanic or Desmond’s insane side mission system can change that fact. And multiplayer will certainly reward those looking for a break from first-person shooting. The gameplay there continues to improve on an already-addicting formula, and learning more about the Templars proves rather fascinating. This is the best Assassin's Creed yet, even if that victory is claimed by an inch and not a mile. If you've been following the lives of Altair and Ezio this long, you owe it to yourself to see their last adventure.

Real Steel is a prime example of a film-to-game adaptation gone wrong. It perpetuates the stereotype that games based on movies aren't good with a missed opportunity to use established mechanics effectively. Frustrating fights, clunky combat, and a bunch of broken, bad ideas destroy what could have been a childhood dream come true. Even the allure of adding new parts to your custom robot doesn't justify playing one of the worst games available on consoles.

News flash: people find sex and violence entertaining. Saints Row: The Third gives the people what they want and drops us into an open world adult theme park where we can treat ourselves to delightful acts of bloodshed and perversion. It doesn't take itself too seriously and only asks that you don't, either.

It's difficult to ever feel completely satisfied with a play session of Skyrim. There's always one more pressing quest, one more unexplored tract of land, one more skill to increase, one more butterfly to catch. It's a mesmerizing game that draws you into an finely crafted fictional space packed with content that consistently surprises. The changes made since Oblivion are many, and result in a more focused and sensible style of play, where the effects of every decision are easily seen. Featuring the same kind of thrilling freedom of choice The Elder Scrolls series is known for along with beautiful visuals and a stirring soundtrack, playing Skyrim is a rare kind of intensely personal, deeply rewarding experience, and one of the best role-playing games yet produced.

Fusion: Genesis is a game that resonates hard with my sci-fi nerd obsessions. It's the kind of stuff I imagine Han Solo was doing before bumping into Luke at the cantina, with a bit of a Battlestar Galactica pace and a Firefly tone. It's the kind of game that doesn't look like much, but is deceptively deep, thoughtful in unexpected ways, and has the right amount of new and different ideas to sustain itself as a strong original IP. Don't let one of Xbox Live Arcade's greatest games go unnoticed and forgotten. Play, fall in love with, and obsess over Fusion: Genesis as soon as possible.

At the close of NCIS: The Game’s final episode, I didn’t feel as though I’d gained any insight into investigative procedure. The minigames are entirely too easy to qualify as a learning experience. After doing one of each type of investigation, the rest of the game simply rehashed the same animations and poor challenges until its over-arching story faded out. I can only recommend this game to anyone who bleeds NCIS love from their veins or lives on achievement points; for everyone else it’s just not worth the time.

Despite its flaws, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 takes the fantastic series we’ve come to love over the years and iterates on it with great success. The multiplayer is hands-down the best it has ever been, with more features, more modes and a ton of new levels and ways to interact via Call of Duty Elite. The singleplayer campaign and Spec Ops mode add value to the overall package, creating something that may not be perfect, but is too damn addicting to pass up.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Impact delivers a fun, action-filled romp. It captures the essence of the franchise and offers up a lengthy main quest with countless hours of level grinding and card collecting to enjoy afterwards. Even as a non-fan without any previous attachment to the characters, it was a good time -- poor AI and mission variety be damned. As a lover of action games, I found the combat to be enjoyable but entirely too easy and repetitive. Yet as a person who also appreciates good stories and memorable characters I think Ultimate Ninja Impact satisfies.

Daytona USA's charm fuels up on nostalgia. From the theme song to the timed checkpoints, each race is built on stealing quarters, virtual or not, and getting you to try again. But eighteen years later, it just doesn't hold the appeal it once did - though the first few laps are a pleasant return to a simpler time.

Passion alone isn't enough to make a game great. Stronghold 3 assumes too much of the user initially, and doesn't do enough to keep the village-building fresh and interesting. Bugs and instability plague the user and combat is still a bit of a mess. Deep down in Stronghold 3 is a solid, balanced economic simulator, but myriad frustrating other elements mean you seldom get to enjoy it. With continued support from Firefly Studios Stronghold 3 could be a sleeper hit, but right now that seems an eon away.

Yes, ultimately the content in the game is already on the disc and you have to pay money to unlock it, which sounds like BS. But even without the extras, Skylanders is a pretty substantial action game for kids (with a small cast). It's fun, it's challenging, the story is cute, and there is co-op. The potential to use these figures in future games, as well as the ability to trade them and use them cross platform makes this feel less like a gimmick and more like really cool tech.
