The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection reminds me that video games can match the evocative and thrilling qualities of any other creative medium. While Ico's gameplay mechanics show their age and Shadow of the Colossus didn't quite take me to the same place it took me more than five years ago, this collection astounds. Technical updates aside, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus deserve more than just one trip down memory lane.

There's no arguing that IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover should never, ever have been released in the condition it was. Neither the developer or the publisher should expect forgiveness. And certainly it will always remain a difficult go for flight sim newbies. However, there's one hell of a game in there, trying to escape. And I think, given the responsiveness and the past track record of the development team and the plans that lie ahead in the next few months, that escape will soon occur. At the very least, anyone who wants to experience the controls of a real World War II-era combat aircraft would do well to at least keep this game on their personal radar. We may one day have an aerial Grand Prix Legends on our hands. Maybe.

Dead Island probably won't win any game of the year awards. It's got visual bugs, the controls take a bit to feel normal, and the presentation in general isn't up to snuff. But the game gets a lot right. There is a huge world to explore, thousands of zombies to kill, and tons of side quests to take. Here on the other side of a 25-hour playthrough -- where I skipped a lot of side quests after Act 1 -- I'm anxious to get back into Dead Island, and despite the game's flaws, that's not something I say often.

One thing concerns me about BloodRayne: Betrayal. Many gamers won’t give it a chance because of the BloodRayne moniker associated with it. But it would be a mistake to ignore a game like this. Betrayal isn’t for everyone, but for classic gamers looking for a hard romp, it’ll prove to be a great success.

For 10 bucks I got a solid day’s worth of entertainment from the collection, fueled largely by the amount of people who came by my desk to play a round with me. Unless online gets patched I don’t see myself going back there, and honestly unless somebody asks me to load it up, I won’t be playing the Arcade Kollection much after this week. But ripping out spines, and desperately trying to remember the right spam moves to beat Motaro was a fun nostalgia break. Whether that’s worth ten bucks to you depends on how diehard of an MK fan you are.

When deciding whether or not to pick up The Baconing you should consider how you felt about Thongs of Virtue. If all you want to do is play more DeathSpank, then this will certainly do the trick. For me, once was apparently enough. If you’re a DeathSpank virgin and like loot-based hack ‘n slash games, give The Baconing a try before you buy.

Although the presentation fails to impress, and the camera can be frustrating at times, Hamilton’s Great Adventure provides a solid puzzle experience with plenty of challenge. You’ll have fun by yourself, but multiplayer really shines.

Bodycount benefits from a solid core, and plenty of moments entertained me throughout the campaign, including some of the more intense gunfights. But the disconnect between Bodycount's chaotic visual spectacle and its precise scoring system drive a large divide between how you want to play and how Bodycount expects you to play. The limited environmental palette and the lack of any real story further damper the fun. Despite the thrill of wrecking havoc on an unjust world, Bodycount lacks the polish and overall entertainment value of its peers.

Madden NFL 12 is a solid football game. It improves on features from last year’s game, and the gameplay is tight and entertaining. But the series is known for changing it up every year, and there’s nothing in this version that’s new or innovative. It feels like a roster update, a complaint so many people already have, and something the Wii version has bucked. This is one of the better Madden games on the Wii, if not the best, but it’s also the most boring.

If you go into 4 Elements HD with an open mind, you’ll find a worthwhile game well worth the price of admission. It’s not a game that will take you an incredible amount of time to complete, nor will it keep you coming back for more once you do blaze through the entire experience. But that’s the idea. As a bite-sized, relatively cheap PSN game, 4 Elements HD will keep you busy for a couple of weekends or for a week after work. And what more could you ask for?

Driver: San Francisco has one game-changing, eyebrow-raising idea and it pulls it off with aplomb, infusing the OTT arcade racing with unparalleled variety and a ridiculous supernatural twist whilst staying true to its Seventies chase-movie roots. It looks great, it’s got a lot of personality, it tells an entertaining story and it’s great fun to play. A few frustrating difficulty spikes and the story’s rather premature ending are the only negatives.

The improvements to Madden NFL 12 are small, but they’re spread over every facet of the game. Madden fans are getting a tighter, more finely tuned game. AI is smarter and more accurate, the lighting and animations are more realistic, and the Franchise is more expansive. It’s disappointing that there are still areas where other sports titles are outshining Madden, and with no new gameplay modes it’s hard to recommend it to players who were bored last year. However, in terms of pure gameplay, Madden NFL 12 looks better, hits harder, and runs faster than ever before.
