The PSP version of LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean looks great, but the gameplay is practically identical to the 3DS and DS versions. It’s still silly LEGO antics, and it’s still fun, even if we’ve seen it all before. If you own a 3DS in addition to a PSP, you may want to consider the 3DS version, just because the 3D really adds to the gameplay.

Virtua Tennis 4 is a fun tennis game, after you dig through all the fluff: Mini-games and a needlessly complex career mode. If you already got your fill of Virtua Tennis 3 then there isn't a lot of new stuff in here, which is a shame, but it's still a very solid arcade tennis title. At least PS3 owners now get online play (in theory!), and Trophies this time around.

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean is in its top form on the 3DS. Despite the lack of cooperative multiplayer, it’s a simple but fun portable gaming experience. The 3D really is a big addition in this case, as well, allowing you to see environments more clearly and complete jumps that would otherwise be much more difficult. And with the small number of 3DS games on the market right now, you could certainly do worse than LEGO Pirates.

Luckily, though, anyone in the mood for some old-school emulated beat-'em-up action can find several great alternative options still on sale in the Shop. Take your digital dollars and invest in a classic like River City Ransom, Double Dragon or Streets of Rage 2 instead -- and leave Rival Turf to fall back into obscurity, continuing to only be remembered for the two teenaged punks on its boxart.

Moon Diver is a good game for the niche of gamers it’s aimed at, but it’s also inconsistent and flawed. Many old-schoolers like myself will prefer to play it solo, but will find the difficulty arc is so extreme at times that it will require some level-grinding to get through. And there are many better alternatives for multiplayer fans that provide a less muddled and confusing experience. Yet, Moon Diver has an undeniable appeal. Its smooth gameplay harkens back to an early time in gaming, and apart from that, there are a lot of stages to explore, magical spells to find, and characters to upgrade and strengthen. Old-school players should jump in with few reservations, but everybody else should think twice before subjecting themselves to Moon Diver’s delightfully archaic take on gaming.

I'll always have a personal connection to M.J.'s tracks, and performing them with a bunch of friends should be entertaining -- even if the PlayStation Move controller isn't ideal for a full-body dancing game. Despite the poor input method, difficult choreography and nebulous guide pictures, Michael Jackson: The Experience can make for some silly fun. It's worth checking out if only to see some of the dancers perform -- they're pretty fantastic.

Football fans should heed the old cliche of taking each game one week at a time: AFL video games have a strong foundation with AFL Live, but still have a few years of hard work to go before we can expect genuinely great things. In the end, the highest compliment I can pay to AFL Live is that it looks like it has the makings of a potential top-tier franchise. Is AFL Live a great sports video game? No. Does it feel like football? Sometimes. And for those who have been punished by a decade of near-unplayable AFL video games, ‘sometimes’ will be enough. The rest should keep an optimistic eye on the future of AFL Live and Big Ant.

If you’ve followed the Ar Tonelico series this far, I’d imagine you’ve already discovered the secrets of Ar Ciel and seen the heights of Clustania on Sol Cluster. But for anyone new to the series, make sure you know what you’re getting into. The first two games soared on charming visuals and mechanics of the great games from the 16-bit era. With all the technological bells and whistles driving this sequel, it ended up halting rather than evolving the series. Great animations set against clunky backgrounds, too much repetition in both the combat and music, and the lack of difficulty hold this JRPG back from being something truly special.

For all its excellent visual flair, interesting characters, and creative storytelling, the fact Gray Matter’s puzzles are one of its less impressive aspects is a major disappointment. The creative magic trick conundrums are an interesting touch, and the challenges do get more elaborate further along in the game, but many of the puzzles just aren’t that enjoyable. Even so, Gray Matter’s winding story and masterful presentation captivate enough to hold everything together, particularly as the tale reaches its bizarre climax in the final chapters.

All told, Red River just about achieves its objective - an engaging halfway house between soldier simulation and improbable heroics, and a slick, smart co-op modern warfare experience. If only it had trimmed down the flabby downtime and the reams of prattling fratboy dialogue which dominate its campaign, and instead pursued more tactical variety, we'd perhaps be looking at something exceptional. As it is it's merely capable, with occasional flashpoints of brilliance.

At less than a dollar, Storm in a Teacup is easily worth the time and money it’ll take to unlock it’s second, more entertaining half. If you’re looking for a way to lose a few hours on a commute, or a cute game for all ages, look no further.
