But for its several shortcomings, Ashes 2009 plays a convincing and highly enjoyable game of cricket. Its greatest success is in managing the balancing act between bowling and batting – a hurdle at which many cricket games fall, but one that’s deftly dealt with by developers Transmission. The languid charm of a full test is captured well, making it the ideal game to while away lazy summer afternoons, while the more dramatic pace of Twenty20 makes for an equally engaging multiplayer experience. Labelling it the best cricket game available might be the faintest of praise given the complete lack of competition, but fans of the sport should be pleased that their only option is such an accomplished one.

The game’s ugly as sin but it at least has a fun design to fall back upon – G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is an energetic DS game that’s a cool, simplistic diversion. If you’re a fan of blowing crap to high heaven, this game will be right up your alley – just don’t expect to be floored by the visuals and you’ll be fine.

As a fan of G.I. Joe, I expect a videogame version to make me feel like a Real American Hero. This didn't come close. The gameplay is unexciting and the visuals uninspired. There are moments when I found myself enjoying G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, but those moments didn't last long. I wish I could give this a "Yo Joe!" but all I can manage is a "Yay, I'm done with this."

The SingStar formula is fun and Queen is a great band, but that doesn't save this title from being shortchanged. This is the same setup and layout as the original SingStar PS3, but the fact that you're getting just one band means that the title has an incredibly limited appeal. Although a lot of people will know these tracks, they should've been posted to the SingStore so you could pick and choose what you wanted. A standalone band game needs to be augmented with additional content -- hence why Rock Band track packs can be copied to your library. It hurts me to say it as a Queen fan, but a 25-track game that's just one artist, is just a reskinned version of another game, and doesn't come with mics or new Trophies is a mediocre experience. SingStar is lagging behind where the music game genre is going, and that sucks for franchise fans like myself who want to see more and more people get on My SingStar Online. I want this series to push forward and not become a stagnant entity.

Back in 1992, SimEarth was an ambitious and admirable undertaking that SimCity fans embraced and enjoyed as the next step in the evolution of the simulation genre -- at the time, its restrictions, limited graphics and difficult interface were just the standard. No one would have known to complain. But now, 17 years later, we've seen the incredible growth of accessibility in this category of gaming -- and it's impossible to go back. No tutorials, no real help. No reason to waste your time or money. SimEarth is one of those games that we should appreciate for its place in industry history, but not one we should spend time or money on to go back and play. Ignore this release.

There's absolutely no reason anyone should buy this game when there is a FAR better alternative available on Wii in Excite Truck. You can probably find it for under $20 by now. It has better graphics, better sound, better controls, and better gameplay than Bigfoot: Collision Course. Software of this quality is unacceptable and has no place on a current generation console. You're definitely going to want to pass this one by.

There's no denying that G-Force is a simple game, but that doesn't mean that it can't be fun. Yes, the story will be an enigma if you haven't seen the flick and sometimes levels can seem like they go on and on, but collecting data discs, solving puzzles by flipping between Mooch and Darwin, and blowing up possessed blenders is fun. G-Force isn't a game everyone should be lining up to play, but people looking to have an interactive piece of the movie shouldn't be disappointed.

It's been an incredibly long time since Nathan Spencer swung onto a console, and for the most part, his return is a solid one. Bionic Commando provides an updated adventure for the classic hero, sending him as a one man army against daunting odds to save the world once again. If you can look past the replayability issues that crop up due to the linear play and the tons of screen and texture tears, you'll find an enjoyable adventure that easily re-establishes the franchise for Capcom. You've been out of duty for way too long, Spencer – Hopefully you'll come back sooner than later.

Ant Nation might provide a brief diversion for the desperately bored or the blind. But the simple mission requirements are too shallow to really sink your teeth into and these visuals are a joke. The Bonus mode is more fun than the campaign, because it relishes in the absurdity of blowing up swarms of ants with a rocket launcher. The regular game has bizarre elements, too, but then gives the player a bunch of mundane tasks to complete. Still, at $7 it's considerably cheaper than a real ant farm, comes with no risk of being knocked over and spilling ants into your house, and includes a rocket launcher. When I put it that way, I guess it sounds pretty awesome. It's not, though.

The episode's biggest weakness is the clear lack of any kind of grand finale. While the music swells once you leave the island, the finale lacks epic triumph and the denouement amounts to a cliffhanger, leaving more questions than answers. And there are plenty of questions to be answered as the designers have planted plenty of seeds for future installments. So episode 1 gets high notes for bringing us back into the Monkey Island universe, but at the same time, it looks like we'll have to wait for the rest of the episodes to roll out over the next four months or so to get all the answers.

Overall NCAA Football 10 is a step forward from last year’s game, but not as big a step as I would’ve liked. There are still a lot of gameplay annoyances that will be troubling to diehard football fans. The structure of Road to Glory is both good and bad for different reasons, but the fact that’s the only new mode is a letdown. Others like Freshman Mode, Mascot Mode and Rivalry Mode provide for a decent amount of fun, but it doesn’t last very long. If you’re trapped in a car for hours on end, pick up this one and have a bit of fun running through Road to Glory, but if other versions are available to you, you’ll find a stronger game there.

This one's an easy recommendation, and anyone who's previously downloaded and enjoyed either Fantasy Zone or Super Fantasy Zone should feel completely comfortable with investing a further five bucks to grab this great follow-up. It's not a revolutionary sequel, as it didn't try to introduce very many new features or gameplay ideas -- but that's why it works. Not fixing what wasn't broken and putting extra effort into the visuals was just the right strategy for SEGA with this sequel. We're just not sure why, with a game this solid, Opa-Opa just keeps on crying.

The obvious audience for Resident Evil 4 on iPhone is the hardcore gamer -- especially the hardcore gamer that is already a monster Resident Evil fan. Resident Evil 4 is an improvement over Degeneration. It looks much, much better thanks to better textures, improved animations, and the stages are not just a series of corridors and rooms. The controls, though, are a problem. The pacing is wonky because of all the virtual button tapping and lack of easy precision aiming. This is certain to disappoint a lot of gamers. I suspect the highlight reel design will also disappoint, but that's more of a problem with expectations than Capcom's design choices. At $7.99, I must resist recommending the game because it can be so frustrating to play. Should Capcom release a lite version, I suggest you try that out and see if you can manage the controls. There really is a good game in here. It's just struggling to get out.

Altogether, Secret Command isn't a great value, it's got some annoying gameplay aspects and it's certainly going to disappoint the dedicatedly shirtless Rambo supporters from the '80s who fondly remember the license-intact edition that shipped on cartridge in America 20 years ago. But if you brush past all that, it's still capable as a co-op Commando clone -- and fans of that game, or Ikari Warriors, or even Konami's Jackal might still want to give it a look.
