Alone in the Dark (the franchise) being the progenitor for so much of what we love in survival horror, only to find itself afflicted by its own kind of curse in the decades following its initial success is genuinely tragic. This latest iteration comes closer than its predecessors to claiming a seat back at the table but its inability to conceive of an identity beyond contemporary mechanics and well-worn tropes leaves it wanting. There’s a version of Alone in the Dark 2024 that found a way to lean into its absurdist concepts and performances but self-seriousness and a lack of focus makes for a game fumbling for the lights. Slap the boards back over the windows of Derceto, maybe we can open it up again in another thirty years.

Alone in the Dark is the best entry in the franchise in over two decades, although there wasn’t much competition for that title. So-so combat, technical issues, and a frustrating lack of consistency sometimes cast a shadow over the game, and yet, there’s still something enticing here. The game’s intricately-designed Derceto Manor hub, thick Lovecraftian atmosphere, and surprisingly-varied level design ought to be enough to light a spark of enthusiasm in some hardcore survival horror fans’ dark hearts.

En terminant, on regrette de ne pas avoir découvert Cocoon en même temps que le reste de l’industrie en septembre dernier. Cependant, il n’est pas trop tard et c’est pourquoi il a récemment fait notre liste de belles découvertes sur la Nintendo Switch. Il s’agit d’un excellent premier titre pour le studio Geometric Interactive et on va définitivement continuer de suivre Jeppe Carlsen et son équipe dans le futur.

Tout en conservant l’âme d’Outlast avec son aspect malsain, glauque et gore à souhait, Red Barrels insuffle à sa licence un nouveau souffle. On perd l’horreur pure et dure certes, mais la formule est clairement maitrisée. The Outlast Trials est une expérience solide en solo qui franchit un cap en multi surtout quand on est entre amis. Il manque cependant de contenu Day one, et on parle de plusieurs mois d'attente avant les premiers ajouts, d'épreuves notamment.

Hi-Fi Rush is a gorgeous rhythm-action game with a strong cast of characters, addictive gameplay, and an incredible musical score. The game has a ton of replayability with the way it's structured, allowing you to improve your timings to perform better in the game’s rhythmic combat. This is an essential title for PS5 owners, and we’re glad Xbox has allowed us to finally experience it.

Hi-Fi RUSH (PS5) Hi-Fi RUSH è un gioco stupendo. E se volessimo fare un discorso un po' più critico su quello che è lo stato in cui versa oggigiorno il nostro media preferito, questa tipologia di produzioni è ciò che manca. Hi-Fi RUSH rappresenta quella che potrebbe essere "la strada da percorrere" per far "rifiatare" l'industria. Ma non è il luogo in cui parlarne. Questa è la sede in cui celebrare il titolo di Tango Gamesworks. Divertente, galvanizzante, stratificato tanto da poter essere apprezzato veramente da tutti. Con disinvoltura, Hi-Fi RUSH può passare da piacevole divertissement per chi cerca un'esperienza peculiare, leggera e visivamente sublime con cui intermezzare i tanti titoli "grossi" del momento, a vero e proprio punto di riferimento per i videogiocatori più hardcore. In poche parole, una perla del media che tutti almeno una volta nella vita dovrebbero giocare. PRO Sistema di combattimento stratificato che può essere approfondito su più livelli | Presentazione audio-visiva sublime funzionale al gameplay | Pacing ottimo, anche grazie alle fasi collaterali... | CONTRO Telecamera non sempre perfetta | ... nonostante in queste situazioni i controlli risultino a volte macchinosi |

Hi-Fi Rush su PS5 resta sempre il buon vecchio Hi-Fi Rush. Il piccolo, grande colpo di genino firmato Tango Gameworks si conferma come un’avventura esilarante dal principio alla conclusione, intuitiva nonostante l’iniziale disorientamento dovuto alla fusione di generi, ma impegnativa da dominare tra combinazioni di mosse, parate, sfide extra e una traccia sonora coinvolgente. Sulla console di punta Sony, il gioco replica l’esperienza offerta su Xbox all’inizio del 2023, senza aggiunte rilevanti e questo è più che sufficiente. Almeno, la fuoriuscita dai confini esclusivi di Microsoft consentirà a molti di sperimentare uno dei giochi più intriganti di questa nona generazione. E chissà, forse un futuro successo commerciale potrebbe innescare la produzione di un seguito. Possiamo solo, fortissimamente, augurarcelo.

A trial by horror if there ever was one, The Outlast Trials does its best to flavour up the Outlast formula with its particular slant on co-operative gameplay. The results are decent alone or with friends, but too many times The Outlast Trials sacrifices its horror potential by implementing its newly-minted multiplayer features, consequently threatening to trip over and compromise the experience. Outlast‘s bespoke brand of horror manages to keep its head above the bloodbath thanks to brimming environments, meticulous presentational elements and its ability to unnerve, but trying to be bigger doesn’t payoff as better with The Outlast Trials, it’s merely good, but could’ve been great if it was smaller and more focused.

Garden Life: A Cozy Simulator is a beautiful game that offers a relaxing experience, but some design choices clearly need extra watering. Unfortunately, its stylish charm can’t make up for repetitive gameplay and lacklustre progression.

Ultros è un titolo che avrebbe potuto fare sicuramente di più paradossalmente facendo di meno. Le idee sono interessanti e di certo avrebbero meritato qualcosa di meglio di un metroidvania bellissimo da vedere, ma che non ha capito la direzione generale che voleva seguire.

It’s hard to completely escape the translation issues, but KONOSUBA - God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! Love For These Clothes Of Desire! is the visual novel for you if you want a light-hearted romp with plenty of charm. Just be ready for kinky stuff.
