Lords of the Fallen is a great soulslike, and its killer new idea of swapping between two versions of the world to solve puzzles and slay enemies is an excellent twist to set it apart from the pack. That concept is unfortunately hamstrung by numerous, highly annoying technical issues and weak boss fights, but awesome explorable areas and fantastic buildcrafting more than make up for those shortcomings. If, like me, you’re a sucker for a quality action-RPG even amid a clear overabundance of them, then this reboot is well worth your time.

Lords of the Fallen è un ottimo esponente del genere souls-like, finalmente! Il rebranding curato da Hexworks ha centrato appieno l’obiettivo di dare nuova linfa vitale a un brand con tanto potenziale inespresso e che qui, finalmente, ha trovato la sua dimensione. Ho apprezzato tantissimo il world building, la grande libertà d’azione che il gioco offre e la spettacolarità dei boss, così come mi è piaciuta tanto anche la profondità ruolistica decisamente più marcata che pervade il gioco, che pur con alcune mancanze rende comunque l’esperienza più che godibile. Le pecche peggiori sono quelle relative il combat-system: per quanto i passi avanti sono enormi, in tal senso, la legnosità generale si avverte ancora troppo e il livello di sfida non è sempre bilanciato, specialmente per chi vorrà giocare in singolo tutta l’avventura. Nel complesso, comunque, possiamo essere felici: dopo Lies of P, il 2023 accoglie un altro grande souls-like e gli appassionati del genere ne saranno veramente lieti!

The Grinch: Christmas Adventures is a great holiday game to bring out and play with your kids. I love the fact that you can just have the story read after the fact and having the second player control Max the dog without fear of dying is great for those little ones who want to feel a part of the game with you. Where it lacks in feeling good as a platformer it makes up for it in delivering a fun take on a classic tradition.

Lords of the Fallen is a game that wears its passion and love of the genre on its sleeve. A gorgeous world, gripping gameplay, enthralling bosses, and depthless worldbuilding persist in spite of some rough edges and a struggling sense of unique identity.

Cela fait un moment que je n’ai pas ressenti une telle envie d’enchainer les heures sur un titre. Lords of the Fallen a tout pour plaire que ce soit son socle solide et sans faille repris des cadors du genre, mais surtout ses spécificités maison originales qui délivrent une expérience si addictive. Jamais mort et souffrance n’ont été si séduisantes grâce à un game design en béton armé couplé à une direction artistique à tomber. L’échec fait toujours partie de notre périple, mais on ne se retrouve pas sans filet pour autant avec quelques outils pour nous assister au franchissement des obstacles sur notre route. On se délecte de chaque décor, chaque région, qui nous sert des vues imprenables et cette dualité de monde est un vrai régal aussi bien visuellement que dans l’exploitation des mécaniques que nous propose Lords of the Fallen ! Certains y décèleront une touche de classicisme en couche de fond, ou une technique jugée gourmande, mais Mournstead a tant à nous offrir qu’on outre passe ses sentiments pour un voyage mortellement attrayant. Lords of the Fallen s’impose dès à un présent comme un cador des ARPG exigeants.

Lords of the Fallen sarà, senza ombra di dubbio, uno dei soulslike più divisivi in assoluto. Da una parte Hexworks ha sfornato un geniale successore spirituale del primo Dark Souls, rafforzato da un map design brillante e da ottime trovate legate all'elemento esplorativo; dall'altro il team è inciampato malamente nella non facile gestione della progressione dei nemici e del bilanciamento, andando così a pregiudicare parzialmente proprio le migliori caratteristiche della produzione. Un peccato, perché seppur i suoi difetti siano gravi, questo gioco ha davvero un'anima unica e crediamo abbia le carte in regola per conquistare una community appassionata. Con un po' di tempo in più e qualche riconsiderazione, però, avrebbe potuto raggiungere ben altre vette.

In definitiva, questa nuova incarnazione di Lords of the Fallen ha saputo convincerci solo in parte. La situazione generale è sensibilmente migliorata dopo l'arrivo delle ultime patch, ma il gioco di HexWorks e CI Games presenta ancora scarsa rifinitura e qualche ingenuità di troppo nel sistema di combattimento, da sempre fiore all'occhiello per qualunque soulslike degno di questo nome. Il rovescio della medaglia è un gameplay molto più stratificato di quanto ci aspettassimo, nella cornice di un mondo dalle tinte dark piacevole da esplorare sebbene non proprio originalissimo, reso ancor più intrigante da alcune trovate di game design legate all'uso della mistica Lanterna Umbral. Lords of the Fallen è dunque una gemma grezza, un mix di idee potenzialmente interessanti che però fatica ad esprimere il suo pieno potenziale. Allo stato attuale, è indicato soprattutto per un pubblico di irriducibili, affamati di soulslike e che hanno già portato a termine le molteplici proposte presenti sul mercato. Per tutti gli altri esistono diverse opzioni migliori, sia nel campo dei Tripla A che nel panorama indipendente.

Despite functional gameplay and a well-designed world, the experience is marred by frustrating combat mechanics, subpar enemy placement, and an overall lack of polish, making it one of the most frustrating soulslikes ever released.

Oubliez tout ce que vous savez du premier Lords of the Fallen. Cette suite aux allures de reboot réussit là où son aîné avait échoué, en proposant un action-RPG solide qui vient rivaliser avec les meilleures productions du genre. Sublimant son level-design avec ce voyage entre deux facettes d’un même univers, Lords of the Fallen version 2023 apporte son petit quelque chose en plus qui le rend unique et appréciable. Concevoir un Souls-like en un monde semi-ouvert n’est pas l’idée la plus neuve du monde, mais Lords of the Fallen est sans doute celui qui le fait le mieux grâce à sa manière repenser notre rapport avec l’environnement. Jamais révolutionnaire mais rempli de bonnes idées, le jeu trébuche à l’occasion, ce qui l’empêche d’atteindre les sommets de la formule, qui commence d’ailleurs à sentir le réchauffé. On n’en lui en veut pas (trop), du moins s’il règle ses soucis techniques, et on apprécie la balade, même lorsqu’elle est loin d’être une promenade de santé.

Lords of the Fallen è un souls like derivativo ma ben fatto che prende a piene mani il meglio di moltissime produzioni, quali Dark Souls, Sekiro e Soul Reaver, aggiungendo la sua personalità, la sua metrica e la sua estetica talvolta spacca mascella. Un prodotto che non entrerà nella storia del videogioco ma che indubbiamente piacerà agli appassionati del genere. Lords of the Fallen premia la curiosità per cui sperimentate e letteralmente giocate con i due mondi Axiom e Umbral.
