Call of Duty Modern Warfare III ne parvient pas à nous convaincre avec un choix très discutable de la part d’Activision. On nous promet un nouveau jeu, alors que l’on se retrouve en réalité avec un simple DLC de Modern Warfare II vendu au prix (très) fort. Si le jeu parvient à nous séduire visuellement, c’est bien son seul point fort. À côté de cela, nous nous retrouvons avec une campagne solo très courte, mal écrite, avec un rythme cassé par les missions en « zone ouverte » qui n’apporte rien. Le multijoueur ne redresse vraiment pas la barre avec un contenu tout aussi pauvre, mal équilibré, et surtout, identique au multijoueur du précédent jeu. Il est grand temps pour la licence Call of Duty de se mettre un peu au repos, pour revenir au sommet.

Modern Warfare 3 es un juego difícil. No parece querer gustar, pero busca desesperadamente atención al oír a su comunidad con eI modo multijugador. Es un juego de contrastes, con muchas cosas negativas y otras que brillan poco y se basan en la nostalgia. EI modo multijugador vive de atraerte, casi como un canto de sirena, hacia Highrise, Terminal o Rust, pero la nostalgia no creo que valga tanto. Es 10 mejor de todo eI trío de modos, y si no fuera por ello, no valdría la pena 10 más mínimo.

Call of Duty : Modern Warfare III nous fait penser qu’il aurait peut-être dû rester un simple DLC de l’opus précédent, tant l’ambition est absente. Nous avons le droit à une campagne cinématographique, mais qui est moins épique et se termine rapidement. On ne retiendra que le multijoueur qui joue trop sur la nostalgie d’un Modern Warfare 2, mais qui a un gameplay vraiment bon, hormis le sniper. Par contre, en ce qui concerne le mode Zombies, ce dernier n’est qu’un skin du mode DMZ et est vraiment décevant.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III è lo specchio di una saga sparatutto che, quando non è nelle mani di Infinity Ward, fatica a mantenere una certa costanza per quel che riguarda la qualità dei contenuti di cui si compone l’esperienza completa. A una campagna appena sufficiente fa da contraltare una componente multigiocatore PvE e PvP in cui l’abbondanza regna sovrana, ma che a conti fatti sa di già visto con idee, mappe e modalità mutuate dal nuovo e dal vecchio corso della serie. Per carità, la formula di gioco resta sempre apprezzabile con la sua capacità di divertire attraverso un gunplay arcade e frenetico, ma le poche novità di rilievo non riescono a differenziarlo da Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, che nella sua totalità si lascia preferire in quanto complessivamente migliore e più originale. In questo caso le colpe sono da spartire a metà tra Sledgehammer Games e Activision, laddove il team di sviluppo ha fallito di nuovo nel compiere il tanto atteso salto di qualità, mentre il publisher ha sulla coscienza l’aver tirato troppo la corda con un gioco completo travestito da espansione che avrebbe ricevuto un’accoglienza sicuramente migliore se non fosse stato proposto a prezzo pieno. Il risultato è una nuova iterazione di Call of Duty che per alcuni potrebbe sapere di già visto, al netto dei tanti contenuti riproposti e di una campagna comunque dimenticabile, che riesce a lasciare un segno non particolarmente marcato solo tuffandosi nelle sfide multiplayer o in una sessione cooperativa di una modalità Zombi fin troppo derivativa.

Sur le papier, avec son solo, son multijoueur et son Zombie, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 se présente comme un package assez complet, et c’est quelque part ce qu’il est. En marge d’une campagne dispensable et de quelques ajustements à revoir (notamment sur le temps de mise à mort), nous avons pris du plaisir sur les deux pans en ligne de cet épisode. Bien que misant avant tout sur une formule nostalgique, avec ses cartes et ses features d’antan, difficile de ne pas tomber amoureux, une nouvelle fois, de ces sensations de shoot toujours aussi réussies. Le Zombie de son côté, bien que copier-coller sur Warzone et DMZ, s’avère agréable et plutôt prenant… Au final, dans ce titre aux airs de “grosse extension”, il y a bien quelques qualités ! Mais celles-ci apparaîtront seulement si Call of Duty n’est pas votre titre de chevet. Pour les fans en possession de Modern Warfare 2, c’est franchement discutable.

In the ‘80s and ‘90s, Yu Suzuki’s arcade games helped propel gaming into the third dimension. Coin-ops like Space Harrier, Out Run, and After Burner felt innovative, each dazzling the senses as they tested reflexes for a few fleeting moments. Air Twister, the pioneer’s latest, does little to advance the basic formula. Expectedly. It looks and sounds better and attempts to inject long-term incentive. But this feels like the arcade pioneer coasting rather than truly tapping into his creative spirit.

No intentéis comparar este juego con nada reciente. Air Twister es una pieza única, el producto del capricho de una mente genial que, si consigue conectar contigo, hará que tu imaginación vuele sin más preocupaciones. Si no... Bueno, siempre te habrá interesado ver un elefante con alas.

Like a Dragon Gaiden might be a short ride but it stands tall among its larger brethren. Bond-like combat refinements, a tight plot, and fun mini-games build on the same old Yakuza heart.

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is kind of like the cup of miso soup served before Infinite Wealth’s main course – it delivers an enjoyably familiar flavour that stimulates the appetite, but doesn’t really make for a substantial meal in its own right. It effectively feels like an appropriate lead-in to next year’s game in ways both good and bad – on the one hand, it gives a satisfying bit of back story to account for Kiryu’s presence in Hawaii, but on the other its uninspired substories and rehashed side activities are proof positive that the series is crying out for the seachange that Infinite Wealth looks to provide. That said, Gaiden’s gadget-heavy combat definitely kept me consistently entertained over the course of its compact crime story, so although I was less inclined to search for distractions outside of the destruction, I still

Treading the path well-traveled, Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name — far from the most radical of entries in the series — remains a delightful example of Ryu Ga Goktoku’s knack for high drama, wild antics and all-round time thoroughly well spent. A tad harsh it would be to so quickly denote this a “more of the same”-type of release, even with its status as an interlude between more pivotal, mainline outings, that the reliance on what has worked wonders — as much what has been so integral to the series’ structure, for better or worse — is so apparent does limit how far Gaiden will reach in the series’ hierarchy. Even so, that what this game professes is nothing short of lovably eccentric and a touch more on the unashamedly-indulgent side is far from a bad thing. The kind of writing, presentation, content and all-round execution that, even at its seemingly “least-brilliant,” still stands leagues above a vast majority of games. Put it this way, that Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name can take the concept of self-indulgence and make it one you happily grin at, applaud and ask for more of is an accomplishment in of itself.
