Funtasia è un prodotto davvero particolare, uno di quegli indie che non contemplano una possibile via di mezzo tra l'amore e l'odio. Si presenta come gioco di corse a scorrimento in due dimensioni, ed è anche questo ovviamente, ma non solo: è soprattutto un titolo che richiede molta attenzione, tecnico, complesso, con una curva di apprendimento gestibile ma anche inaggirabile. Non è facile far arrivare quella maledetta macchinina alla fine del percorso, in nessuno dei dieci livelli presenti: bisogna potenziarla, apprendere bene la costruzione delle pista, calcolare salti e atterraggi; per non parlare degli scontri con i boss di fine livello, tanto ispirati e originali quanto, appunto, complessi. La modalità multigiocatore costituisce sicuramente una marcia in più, anche se - a nostro parere - in una produzione simile non per forza necessaria; meglio che vi sia, ovviamente. Il verdetto è dunque positivo: adesso perdonateci, ma c'è ancora qualche rifiuto cosmico impazzito che ha bisogno di essere rimesso in riga.

NieR: Automata The End of YoRHa Edition takes one of the best games ever made and turns it into a miraculous, portable experience. While 30 fps may seem like a downgrade, you won’t even feel the difference after a few minutes and the sacrifice is more than worth it. The new costumes are a great way to freshen up the game, but this version does lack some of the older cosmetics still exclusive to other versions.

The next generation edition of Biomutant may not have been necessary, but it doesn’t hurt anything either. Overall, the game is very smooth, never dropping a frame no matter how crowded it may become, and the world is as beautiful and colorful as ever. My biggest gripe with the game is pretty universally mentioned: there was a lot more going on in the game than could be given proper attention, such as the upgrade and crafting systems, but it makes up for it in my opinion with a story and a world that is fun to explore.

In barba a coloro che sin dall’annuncio hanno criticato la scelta di Square Enix di accantonare il sistema di combattimento a turni di Valkyrie Profile, lo spin-off confezionato da Soleil ci ha divertiti con un solido e variegato impasto ludico, un livello di sfida soddisfacente e tanta strategia. A non convincere, invece, sono la componente narrativa rinunciataria e il comparto tecnico datato, che suggeriscono degli evidenti problemi legati al budget. In definitiva, Valkyrie Elysium potrà non aver centrato appieno il bersaglio, eppure siamo convinti che, coi giusti investimenti, la formula ludica sintetizzata dallo studio Soleil potrebbe rivelarsi vincente. In tal senso, la speranza è che un eventuale sequel riesca quindi a esprimere il pieno potenziale dello spin-off.

No More Heroes III is a pleasant sendoff for Travis Touchdown – especially so now that it’s no longer stuck on hardware that couldn’t keep up with it. The lack of performance problems make it so much easier to enjoy its wide variety of combat encounters, eclectic minigames, and zany story sequences. It comes at the cost of its other flaws becoming more pronounced, but it’s still a brash and daring passion project from a Grasshopper Manufacture that continues to do whatever it desires.

No More Heroes III caters to a niche segment of gamers. Because of how well it embraces its absurdity, it’s a title not easily digested by everyone, but this is a must play for fans of Grasshopper Manufacture’s unusual approach to world building. Conventional battles are interspersed with unusual side job minigames to bring variety to the gameplay, even if mowing lawns to raise money for ranked assassin fights feels shoehorned into the plot. No More Heroes III’s quicker loading times and sharper graphics on PS5 are a welcome upgrade of the Switch version, but there are no other improvements or additional content to make a strong case to get this version if the original release is in one’s game library.

Nonostante siano già passati cinque anni, NieR:Automata The End of YoRHa Edition è stato in grado di affascinarci e tenerci incollati allo schermo come se fosse la prima volta. La meravigliosa colonna sonora, le incantevoli ambientazioni, la sceneggiatura incalzante, commovente, carica di emozioni e colpi di scena sono solo alcuni dei pregi di Automata, che vanno a sommarsi a un cast di personaggi scritti divinamente, una regia magistrale e una realizzazione tecnica che lascia a bocca aperta, anche se si tratta solo di Nintendo Switch. Un gioco nel quale è difficile trovare difetti, se non per gli elementi comuni di ciascuna run che potrebbero scoraggiare chi, la prima volta, si ritrova a doverlo ricominciare per scoprire tutti i finali principali, ma che sa premiare (e punire) i giocatori più audaci e coraggiosi. Se non avete mai giocato NieR:Automata e vi piace giocare su Nintendo Switch, specie in portatilità, The End of YoRHa Edition saprà stregarvi e rimanervi nel cuore molto a lungo.

C'erano tutti gli ingredienti affinché Valkyrie Elysium rappresentasse il chiodo finale sulla bara di un franchise morente, assente della scene da troppo tempo: un budget tutt'altro che stellare, un team di sviluppo certamente talentuoso ma poco esperto con titoli di alto livello e uno iato totale con il passato, tanto a livello narrativo quanto di gameplay. E invece, grazie soprattutto ad un sistema di combattimento di ottima fattura, il prodotto Soleil si lascia giocare con piacere, con ritmi frenetici, combo tecniche e una grande varietà di approcci possibili alle battaglie. Certo, per goderne a pieno è necessario chiudere un occhio sui problemi tipici delle produzioni dal budget limitato, dal riciclo piuttosto marcato di nemici e mappe alla vuotezza delle ambientazioni, ma quanto c'è di buono sopravanza a nostro avviso quanto manca, e con questo episodio si sono gettate le basi per un ritorno del franchise in grande stile. L'unica condizione è che sia la stessa Square Enix a crederci davvero e a stanziare fondi più ingenti per un eventuale secondo capitolo.
