Little Orpheus is more of an interactive story mixed with platformer elements. The game keeps everything really simple and is very short in length, with not much in terms of replay value unless you are a completionist. The low difficulty can also be a turn-off for some. However, the combination of an interesting story, funny characters, and a whimsical, pretty world paired with straightforward gameplay can be a reason for many to give this title a shot.

R-Type Final 2 is geweldig tijdens de goede momenten, maar zeer regelmatig ook enorm frustrerend. Het voelt tof om door coole levels te vliegen, maar even frustrerend om willekeurig geraakt te worden door een onzichtbaar iets. Zo spelen de goede delen de slechte delen weg, waardoor de game uiteindelijk middelmatig aanvoelt.

Chi cerca un qualche tipo di sfida non troverà soddisfazione in Little Orpheus, che tuttavia, come ai tempi del suo debutto, rimane una chicca indie a cui perlomeno gli estimatori dei giochi di piattaforme di stampo narrativo, e dei racconti “sci-fantasy” in particolare, non dovrebbero affatto voltare le spalle. Umorismo e meraviglia si fondono alla perfezione nell’ultima fatica di The Chinese Room, restituendo un’esperienza breve ma ricca di sorprese, che sugli schermi da salotto rivive in una forma imperfetta ma contenutisticamente completa, certamente da privilegiare quando in futuro le sarà concesso di uscire allo scoperto.

Criminal Girls feels like an incredibly average JRPG that just so happens to have a slightly strange battle system and fetishistic minigames at the helm. These facets, especially the latter, seem to have been included to make it stand out against competition. It does stand out initially, but actually dealing with these systems proves to be a lot more monotonous than one would hope. Although far from broken, not being able to specify which ability you want a character to use feels limiting — especially when you want to use a specific move. As for Motivating the cast, it’s up to each player whether they find it sexist or sexy, but one thing’s for certain: it isn’t any fun. Being forced to wade through a dull minigame every time you want a new skill slows down the pace. Then there’s the battles themselves which drag on as if players really care about the second by second “excitement” of grinding. This is not to say that Criminal Girls: Invite Only is inherently broken; it certainly functions and offers over twenty hours of gameplay, but there’s better JRPGs available.

Arcade Paradise Arcade Paradise è un tuffo a bomba negli anni '90, un condensato di elementi nostalgici appartenenti ad una gioventù andata, con un incipit narrativo ed un gameplay vari e ben congeniati. I giochi dei cabinati che potremo collezionare sono molto diversi tra loro per genere e aspetto grafico e per la maggior parte ben realizzati. Ciò che manca al prodotto di Nosebleed Interactive è la giocabilità sul lungo termine: dopo una decina di ore, il gameplay risulterà piuttosto ripetitivo e privo di ulteriori sbocchi ed evoluzioni. Tuttavia in definitiva, per ciò che rappresenta iconicamente, Arcade Paradise potrebbe piacervi anche così, al netto dei difetti, sazi e felici dei piacevoli ricordi evocati. Voice of Cards: The Beasts of Burden ricicla estetica e idee dai due predecessori, e una trama priva di mordente rischia di fallire nel coinvolgere i giocatori nelle vicende della guerriera e dei suoi compagni. Non aiutano cliché fin troppo abusati e un sistema di combattimento interessante, ma non adeguatamente sviluppato. The Beasts of Burden sottovaluta i giocatori e potrebbe sì essere un buon entry point per chi non è avvezzo al mondo dei JRPG, ma ci sentiremmo di consigliarlo soltanto agli appassionati di Yoko Taro e dell’universo DrakeNier, che potranno cogliere riferimenti nella narrazione e nelle ambientazioni di un titolo che, per il resto, risulta facilmente dimenticabile.
