Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition still has flaws – a boneheaded narrative, minor framerate hiccups, and an inventory system that lacks the elegance of its PC counterpart – but these small niggles fail to dent what is an otherwise exceptional experience. It’s a bit mindless, yes, but collecting loot and slaying enemies is seldom as sweet as it is here. Quite simply, this is an excellent action RPG.

Crude, sexist, and borderline racist, Blue Estate aims low in search of laughs – and still misses the target by a mile. Even fans of the source material will be disappointed as it fails to capture the spirit of the comic, instead squandering its roster of interesting characters in the worst possible way. Should you manage to cut through its juvenile veneer, you’ll actually find a competent rail shooter – the problem is that the complete lack of originality will ensure that your interest will derail well short of its destination.

Watch Dogs isn't a hack job, but it isn't the next-gen revolution that many were expecting either. It's a game largely made up of mediocre bits and pieces, but is elevated far beyond the sum of its parts by its brilliantly dynamic sandbox and often gripping mission design. You'll want to see Aiden Pearce's tale through to its conclusion despite its flaws, but it's those unpredictable and sometimes spectacular moments of vigilante justice that will keep you connected to Ubisoft's latest open world.

Whichever release in the series you compare it to, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate – Deluxe Edition will always come off worst. The awkward perspective strips it of any valuable worth, and while it does hold up visually, its gameplay just doesn’t quite work. There will be fleeting moments where you feel that the side-scrolling format is faring well – particularly when you’re tearing apart a group of guards – but then you’ll be pulled back to reality with an unpredictable stealth mission or lousy navigation sequence. In essence, this is just another cheap spin-off that delivers a depressingly compromised five hour slice of action, meaning that even Bat-fans should think twice before admitting themselves to Blackgate Prison.

With a standalone asking price of £11.99/$14.99, The Last of Us: Left Behind is an admittedly expensive proposition considering its slender running time. However, quality almost always trumps quantity, and Naughty Dog’s inaugural solo expansion packs plenty of the former into its two or so hour campaign. This is a touching, intelligent, and largely refreshing extension to the core escapade, and while it’s not exactly brimming with narrative revelations, it’s still a beautiful story that you shouldn’t let pass you by.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc's biggest mystery is deducing how to put the game down. Featuring a colourful collection of memorable characters, some sweat-inducing gameplay, and a narrative that has more twists than a Hollyoaks omnibus, Spike Chunsoft's bloody tale of high school life will keep you engrossed from start to finish. We find the defendant guilty of murdering our free time.

As long as you have a Move controller in your hand, then Just Dance 2014 deserves your A-P-P-L-A-U-S-E. The impressive setlist and varied dance styles make this an incredibly fun title for both newcomers and experts alike. More consistency between modes would have been welcome, and improved standalone PlayStation Camera tracking could have certainly elevated the release even further. If you own Sony’s illuminating wand, though, this is easily the best party game on the PS4.

The mere mention of thatgamecompany will always elicit a reaction among gamers. Whether you see the studio’s output as games, art, or a bit of both, it’s hard to deny that the developer delivers unique experiences that will challenge your view of what games can be. More of an interactive experience, flOw won’t float everyone’s boat, but if you can overlook its shortcomings and immerse yourself in its world, then you’ll be able to see why this indie hit rose to the surface when so many others sank without a trace.

While Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX is certainly not the perfect introduction to the series that newcomers may have expected, it does a decent job of recapturing the magic of the original release in glorious high-definition. There are still some clunky mechanics, and the addition of 358/2 Days' cinematics rather than the more chronologically appropriate Birth by Sleep is disappointing – but fans will be able to overlook these shortcomings due to the inclusion of the definitive Final Mix version of the first game.

Stealth Inc: A Clone in the Dark sneaks past the usual tactical espionage action tropes, serving up a fast-paced adventure that's enjoyable in short bursts. While the release could have used a little more visual impact, the leaderboard loop is moreish, and there's plenty to do. Keep your viewfinder focused on this one, and don't let it slip you by.

Planets Under Attack is an accessible, well-rounded strategy game that almost anyone can enjoy. Hiding considerable depth under its colourful exterior, the title does a great job of easing you into the rhythm of the genre. Despite some off-balance gameplay and presentation issues, this is another solid addition to the PSN’s bulging catalogue.

There are several prominent flaws that drag it down, but when all's said and done Assassin's Creed III is still a quality entry in one of this console generation's stand-out franchises. At its best it's an absorbing adventure unique to the rest of the series, and with an obscene amount of content it represents some of the best value for money to be found in 2012. One of its biggest problems is that it doesn't reach the heights of Assassin's Creed II — but when you consider that the second game is one of the best action games in the last few years, that's nothing to be ashamed of. Though its approach doesn't always succeed, it's comforting to see Ubisoft experiment with the franchise so it doesn't become stale; Assassin's Creed III may not deliver on the revolution that was promised, but it keeps hope alive that we might see one in the not-so-distant future.

F1 2012 is heavily flawed gem. Visually stunning and eminently thrilling one minute, needlessly ugly and overtly annoying the next, it’s a game that really doesn’t do enough to improve over last season’s effort. What’s worse is that fans of the series have been voraciously pouncing on any chance to complain about these issues to the developer for two years now, and they – once again – seem to have been ignored. With that said, the game is just as good as it was last year – just not as good as we'd expect it to be by now.

Atelier Meruru is a niche title. Those who love Japanese-style games or who get a kick out of playing with crafting systems will absolutely be in love the second the game boots up. There are a few minor faults, for sure, but if Atelier Meruru has what you’re looking for you’re going to have a hard time putting it down.

It's a shame that Rayman 3 HD is little more than an upscale of its initial release; it features the same models and the same wayward camera, which reduces its appeal when compared to more modern platformers. However, it still has bags of imagination and these flaws don't entirely diminish its appeal, only dent it. Rayman 3 HD is still a great platformer – it's just one that's showing its age.

Like Bond himself, GoldenEye 007: Reloaded is sharp and smart; a modern Bond game, as much about stealth and muscular take downs as gadgets and getting the girl. It doesn't always get it right: fire-fights could have been lifted from any other FPS, and level design can be on the linear side, but it's a strong outing for 007 and by far the best Bond on PS3.

Fallout: New Vegas cannot be faulted for its ambitions — it is a tighter, more focused game than its predecessor. Compulsive gamers will get hundreds of hours out of its vast open world, which is rich with interesting characters and things to interact with. The problem is, New Vegas creaks under the weight of its own achievements. The engine is dated and the whole package is riddled with bugs, often breaking the sense of immersion it is so desperately trying to achieve.
