EA Sports MMA wrestles away the belt from the reigning champ with its stellar combat that feels much closer to the genuine article than what we’ve seen elsewhere. While its modes don’t span the same breadth of other sports titles, it gets things like the international flavor of MMA and the raw nature of the sport down perfectly. Now if they can just refine the AI a bit and add some meat to the scope of the career mode, this one will transcend MMA games and could contend for a spot as one of the best sports games of the year.

It all comes down, really, to whether you actually like to dance. If you don't, Just Dance 2 will hardly change your mind. Oddly enough though, liking games and liking to dance aren't mutually exclusive, and if – herein lies the rub – you hang out with people who like to dance and aren't particularly bothered about games, Just Dance 2 will change their minds. Excellently choreographed, amusingly varied and much better-presented than the original, Just Dance 2 is refreshingly uncomplicated fun. If you'd rather shoot aliens, that's fine, but games are an ever-more inclusive medium, and there's no need to be a misery and ruin it for everyone else.

The batch of Don Bluth laser disc games have been converted to pretty much every conceivable system, big and small – even the Game Boy Color got its own edition of Dragon's Lair. The Wii versions? Spot on and looking great, and certainly worth adding to your collection if you've never made the plunge over the last 15 years of direct ports. Just keep in mind these awesomely animating games play about as deep as a God of War quicktime event.

There's a lot to manage in Game Dev Story, and I'm not going to spoil some of the other surprises that the game has in store, so just do yourself a favor and go download it from the App Store for the modest price of $3.99. Its touch controls are excruciatingly easy and once you pick up Game Dev Story and invest an hour of your time, none of your friends or family will see you again for a very, very long time.

While the PC version is certainly superior to the console port, Arcania: Gothic IV does very little to progress the genre – particularly in mission structure and storytelling areas – but what it ultimately does deliver is a loot-heavy dungeon crawling experience that doesn’t tax your skills. Instead it lets you leisurely enjoy the world and kill a lot of goblins and swamp flies along the way. In this way, the Gothic series has always filled in a more casual space than similarly minded RPGs. The combat has a decent level of depth, the island is sprawling though certainly not truly open-world, but at least varied and detailed. The story is distracting and disposable – kind of enjoyable but never subtle. It’s not going to please hardcore D&D purists or gamers looking for the next Elder Scrolls, but as a middle ground between deeper entries and linear adventures, Arcania: Gothic IV hits its stride.

John Daly’s ProStroke Golf is a good example of how to use the Move hardware effectively in a golf game, but nothing else is quite up to snuff. If you don’t have Move, there’s really no reason to invest the fifty bucks. You can still play with the standard Dual Shock controller, but why would you when Tiger Woods offers a better analog stick alternative? If you’re looking for an example of the potential of Move, John Daly’s ProStroke Golf might be a good showcase once its price drops a bit. As it stands, its visuals and feature set simply don’t make par.

I personally am in the audience Kalypso is shooting for with the release of Patrician IV: I love business and economic simulations, and the interface in the sequel is much better than any of the previous entries. Furthermore, between the tutorial videos and added political and city building elements, it's a blast to play… once. However, there is simply no reason to come back to it after one playthrough. It's disappointing for me because I want to love Patrician IV, but it falls short in far too many areas. I just hope Kalypso doesn't give up on the franchise, and a theoretical Patrician V fixes the issues and gives us a reason to come back for more.

Dead Space Ignition is a cool idea -- a prologue that bears fruit in the real game -- but it’s just so poorly executed. The voice acting is good and the story is interesting, but the mini-games are boring and the art is bad.

Ultimately, there aren’t all that many good things to say about Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes. Sure, it’s better looking and slightly more entertaining to play than any of the similar games that have come out in recent years, but it’s still painfully formulaic and completely uninspired. This is a genre that desperately needs a makeover to be relevant again, because I think even newcomers to the game would be shocked to learn this was made in 2010, and not at the turn of the millennia. C’mon, Capcom, you’re better than this.

The Writer a must-play for anybody that downloaded The Signal as it wraps up the mini-story arc. In total, the two add-ons offer a great addendum to the main game, turning the final punctuation from a question mark to a period. Though The Writer may be a bit short for its 560 Microsoft point price tag, the playful level design and dialogue makes it a winner.

Although Cladun is designed for a very specific type of gamer and the actual battle system is simpler than the robust character building behind it, this retro dungeon crawler is a blast. I love the art style and the multiple soundtracks -- among other things -- so this is the kind of game I’ll keep saved on my PSP’s memory stick for a long time.

Overall FIFA 11 feels like a step in the wrong direction for the series on Wii. The new control mechanics practically force real soccer players to use the Classic Controller in order to separate the pass button from the crossing ability and Hit the Streets doesn’t pan out the way EA hoped. Thankfully the 11-on-11 soccer plays well as long as you’re using the Classic Controller and Battle for Glory is as fun a Manager Mode as you can expect from the series on Nintendo’s console. Sadly none of that is enough to overcome the amount of gameplay frustrations and the poorly designed street soccer.

But such teething problems don’t obscure the fact that F1 2010 is easily the best Grand Prix game since Geoff Crammond was on the beat. Its driving is second to none and is brought alive by a dynamic weather system, while its racing is as thrilling as the real thing. It’s an exacting take by a team that clearly understands what makes F1 tick, and while a handful of issues hold it back from challenging Forza and Gran Turismo just yet, for now racing fans can rest assured that the world’s fastest sport is in safe hands.

That's all solid, and it all makes Fatal Fury 3 another perfectly fine choice for VC fans looking for a fighting fix. I'm just not sold on why the series' simple fighting system needed that complicated third plane.
