Splinter Cell Conviction has a lot of positives. Being able to mark and execute enemies to take command of a situation really underlines Fisher’s new role as a ruthless agent. The hand-to-hand kills are satisfying. The number of missions – and their variety – is also appreciated. But the funkiness with the shadows and normal gunplay weighs down Conviction. Not being able to get a good shot off because of sometimes-sloppy auto-aim or frustrating enemy AI (why are you running at me, I have a gun pointed at your heart!) siphons some of the fun. Ultimately, I enjoyed Conviction and action gamers will, too. But temper those expectations. And maybe wait for a sale.

I can't really see anyone putting more than an hour into Voodoo Dice, even if they somehow convinced themselves it was worth a purchase -- it's just not that special. The Voodoo theme is really underutilized (it seems to be used only in the sense that there are masks, tropical themes and some curses) but I guess you could say it worked well enough on me -- after all, I did decide to play the game based on its ridiculous name. But believe me when I say I've learned my lesson, and I suggest you learn from my mistakes rather than taking a chance on this one.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is the greatest comic book videogame of all time. This is an adult Dark Knight story that is well-told, packs some truly fun gameplay elements, has topnotch voice talent, and feels like it's part of Batman canon. If I have to nitpick, I wish the cutscenes looked better as they can distract from the tale and that the AI was a bit more responsive, but those are tiny flaws that shouldn't distract from the big picture. Rocksteady nailed what Batman is supposed to feel like. Fans, rejoice.

UFC Undisputed 2010 is good, but its little issues hold it back from being impressive. I like this game; the knockouts are awesome, there’s a lot to do in the career, and the moments where Joe Rogan flips out add to the natural excitement of competing in the Octagon. Still, these highs are counterbalanced by repetitive dialogue, complicated controls, and a bunch of modes that all kind of feel the same. UFC Undisputed 2010 is a contender, but it isn’t championship material just yet.

In the end though, Split/Second has so much going for it that it's easy to recommend for kart and arcade racing fans alike. The visuals are great, the sound impresses, and there's enough game between the singleplayer season mode and fun multiplayer to last you quite a while. While there are flaws, these are more than made up for with strong design, and the power play mechanic brings the ever elusive addictive x-factor that so many games try and fail to capture. Even if racing games aren't typically your thing, Split/Second offers enough action and fun to recommend to everyone.

There’s just no reason to get either of these versions of Iron Man (or the other console versions for that matter). I was hoping the Wii controls and High voltage development could make the game exciting and fun, but it came off very bland and ho-hum. Not terrible, but just not interesting. The PSP version is even worse because of its bad controls and limited amount of enemies. If you want to be Iron Man, go get Marvel Ultimate Alliance or something, because this isn’t cutting it.

If you've been waiting for the return of Rocket Knight, I think you'll be pleased with this effort. It's got a vibrant, modern look, but the gameplay is rooted in the 16-bit original. Gamers who don't have warm fuzzies for the SEGA Genesis original will still find an inventive platformer here. Eyebrows may be raised over the $15 price tag and short length of the game, though.

It's not like Aqua is a broken game -- it's just not that entertaining. The abundance of tricky escort missions, lack of checkpoints and little story context make it even less appetizing. Considering all the excellent arcade shooters out there, I would recommend passing up Aqua -- unless you like watching hundreds of enemy ships pulverize your allies while you look on in horror...

Metal Slug XX isn’t necessarily cheap. At $15, you only get seven stages. Sure, you can stretch the experience with co-op play or limiting your continues, but this is an arcade game at heart – longevity is supposed to come from repeat plays. But the Metal Slug experience is getting a bit creaky; too much repetition in the action and too few new ideas. That makes it difficult to excitedly get through a single run much less three or four.

It’s even worse when you see just how much fun the 2D levels are in the Wii version of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. This is what the handheld version should be like, not a kid-friendly, touch-screen focus mess that offers very little in the way of old-school gaming challenge. Ubisoft, you’ve tried it twice on the handheld. If you work on a third, let’s go back to its basics. Leave the stylus alone.
