Is Def Jam Rapstar perfect? Hell no. Is Def Jam Rapstar fun? F--- yes it is! As just a party game I've had a blast with it. The censorship is annoying, and hurts the game more than the developers would like to admit. But even that can't change the fact that it's a fun game, pure and simple. The online features are what save the title. Showing off your skills (or lack thereof) on the Internet and schooling fools in front of the entire world feels really good. If you're a hip hop fan, get this game. Then get online, find me, and prepare to get clowned.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 doesn't do very much that's new. Instead, it takes a step back to a time when Sonic was awesome. I would like to have been able to bring a friend along to play as Tails and experience the old Sonic levels in a new way -- in co-op. Otherwise, there's really little to complain about. Sonic 4 is short, but sweet and well worth downloading.

FIFA 11 on DS has more AI issues than I’d like in my brand of soccer, but the core mechanics are still sound and that makes the game mostly enjoyable. This year’s release also comes with a nice stable of extras like a version of Ultimate Team that’s been nicely tailored to the DS and some fun mini-games to go along with mainstays like Manager Mode and Be A Pro. So while FIFA 11 is undoubtedly an enjoyable game overall, Exient needs to do some work on the AI before taking the pitch next year.

MySims SkyHeroes is a serviceable racer and dogfighter, but there’s nothing really special about it. The story mode is missing the clever writing that I enjoyed in some of the previous MySims games, and the lack of variety in the missions makes most of them feel like a chore. Multiplayer can be fun, but it’s not doing anything we haven’t seen before.

Quantum Theory is a functional game, but that's about the only thing that can be said about it. If this is what the developers at Tecmo-Koei think western gamers want out of a shooter then we need an intervention. Its uninspired level design, terrible shooting, and frustrating instant-kill portions make this a game that I simply couldn’t recommend to anyone at anytime. You only get one life to live, and Quantum Theory isn’t worth a moment of it.

Comic Jumper is precisely the kind of thing I look for in a downloadable game. It offers a clever experience but knows exactly when it might wear out its welcome, and then ends before that. The self-aware videogame and comic book humor is a lot of fun, and I really like the changing styles between the comic books – it keeps Comic Jumper feeling fresh. The action is seriously hardcore and offers a significant challenge. Like a great NES platformer, Comic Jumper is no cakewalk. But also like those great old games, Comic Jumper is worth replaying to not just get better, but also appreciate its best jokes, including a scene that joyously sends up “Total Recall” that I refuse to ruin here.

Again, Dead Rising 2 has issues. It’s not the smoothest game and it can feel like the last one, however that doesn’t mean a thing when the game’s this much fun. Using a car battery and a Street Fighter mask to electrocute the undead and a set of knives and a pair of boxing gloves to make Wolverine claws are all great times. Watching Chuck get covered in blood as he slays thousands of zombies, changing outfits so that one minute you’re in a toddler clothes with a LEGO head and the next you’re in a sundress, and listening to completely whacked out boss stories – that’s what I remember about Dead Rising 2. Any issue the game might have just falls to the backburner.

Brunswick Pro Bowling seems like it should be a slam dunk when you factor in PlayStation Move support and the fun that we all remember having with the bowling option in Wii Sports. Sadly that’s not the case. Instead what you get is a poorly designed game that doesn’t make good use of the Move hardware at all. It obviously doesn’t help that the DualShock option is equally shoddy. You’re better off passing on this one altogether and instead waiting for another bowling option to come along later down the line.

Shantae: Risky's Revenge is easily among the top DSiWare games. And just like the Game Boy Color version you'd be making a huge mistake by skipping over this excellent and ambitious action platformer. Hopefully with the five months before the transition to the next handheld Shantae will see a much more lucrative career on the Nintendo DSi. She deserves it.

After the promising strides made by last year's reboot, PES 2011 feels very much a realisation of that potential. With its emphasis on fun still apparent, the added realism provided by control, animation and AI enhancements improve and broaden the package's appeal no end. Factor in the added tactical flexibility and the addition of the online Master League, and it's easy to see why PES' return to form will be widely celebrated. Some may prefer FIFA's more studied approach to football realism, but when it comes to pick-up-and-play fun and intensity, PES 2011 gets my vote this year.

If Atelier Rorona was more fleshed out, and I was actually involved in gathering and alchemic recipes, then it could be a compelling RPG. But its standard battle system, cute style, and WTF dialogue don't make the game good. It does make the game one of those titles that cause your friends to worry you've gone all creeper, though, so it's got that going for it.

There are emblems to collect in the story and ranks to crawl through in multiplayer, but Front Mission Evolved just feels like a flat experience. The big ol’ mechs are here if you have a hankering to boost around and smash stuff, but it’s nothing revolutionary and doesn’t feel like a full-fledged game at times with its less-than-stellar story and matches that limp on.

NBA 2K11 is a love letter to basketball fans. If you don't follow hoops, a lot of the subtleties will be lost on you. And if you are looking for a loose, fun, crazy dunkfest experience like NBA Jam, you're going to get hosed. But if you are serious about basketball, this will fill a long-standing void in your hoops-loving heart. This is the NBA. No one else has come close to representing it in such great and accurate detail as this. Honestly, the stuff with Michael Jordan is reason enough to pick up NBA 2K11. The fact that 2K Sports did so much more with this game and improved it so greatly over last year's title is stunning. This isn't just the best basketball game ever; it's the best sports game of this generation.

FIFA 11 is an acceptable addition to the lineage of portable soccer titles, but it doesn’t bring much in the way of new and impressive content to the table. Be A Goalie doesn’t perform very well on the PSP hardware and every other mode has been seen before in some fashion. The biggest newcomer to the gameplay package is 360-degree dribbling and that performs well in practice. All in all FIFA 11 is a decent game, but I’d like to see more PSP-specific touches in next year’s iteration.
