Out of the three different Commodore 64 games released to launch the system on America's Virtual Console, The Last Ninja is certainly the best. It's a deep, interesting action/adventure that feels different from anything else on the VC, and its music is shockingly good. The one major drawback keeping it from being it as fun as it could have been is its control scheme, which is awkward to get used to and still feels a little loose even after you do. But perhaps the two upcoming sequels will do something to correct that. . . . because that's the final point of interest -- The Last Ninja was just the beginning. It was followed up by The Last Ninja 2 and The Last Ninja 3, and both of those sequels are already available for download in Europe -- so we can surely look forward to getting the full trilogy here in the States sometime in the not-so-distant future too. For just five bucks, it's not such a bad deal to go ahead and get in on the ground floor here.

Boing! Docomodake DS is a really strange title to see on DS. The characters are mascots for a Japanese cell phone company, and while the game is very fun for what it is, this minimalistic product shouldn’t even be releasing in the US based on its license (part of the fun in getting it). This is the equivalent to the gecko from Geico staring in a puzzle/platformer on DS, but being released in Japan as well. Do they know who the gecko is? I’d assume not, but being put in the same situation, I can say that Docomodake is a hilarious character, and the game is not only charming, but also very fun. $20 will get you four or five hours of gameplay, and while it’s all extremely simple in design – one main tileset, simple animations, basic presentation – it’s inherently fun, and I was never bored playing through it. The game is aimed a bit younger than the standard Mario vs. Donkey Kong audience, but if you find yourself smiling at the hilariously odd character art, and if the gameplay intrigues you based on our screens and video, I say give it a shot. This isn’t a game that comes around every year, and I’d assume its distribution is amazingly small. It isn’t perfect, but it is extremely charming, it has a very old school puzzle/platformer vibe, and dares to try something different with the DS touch screen. I have no idea why this game came to the US, but I’m down for more in the future. Bring it on.

International Karate was a good pick for the Commodore 64's American launch lineup, because even after 20 years it's still a title with a good degree of name recognition among gamers from the '80s. Much of that recognition, though, probably came from this game's superior sequel -- the imminent arrival of which is a strong reason why you might not want to get this edition right away. Existence of the upcoming sequel aside, though, the original International Karate is fun and even addictive. So nostalgic Commodore players and younger gamers who think they might like a slower, more purposeful and more strategic fighting design should still give it a look.

As a fan of the entire Silent Hill universe and someone that has every game associated with the property, I was hoping that Homecoming would be an excellent step forward for the franchise. Unfortunately, I admit that the game feels like a bit of a letdown. The gameplay has been reduced from a tense psychological experience fraught with spine tingling jumps and scares to a generic, predictable action title set in the location with good graphics and a great soundtrack. If Alex had been limited in some way, or even if there was an adjustment to the fearful aspect to the title, this could've been a solid game.

Killzone 2 is only a short month away from hitting shelves, but the game will definitely be worth the wait. The single-player experience is a truly enjoyable campaign across the Helghast home world that will test your skills, particularly on the higher difficulty levels, and the game simply looks phenomenal for a console shooter. But perhaps the strongest segment of the game is the extremely deep multiplayer, which gives seven basic classes with which you can create your own customized super-soldier after performing your class-specific duties. Not only did Guerrilla achieve a milestone of delivering a great exclusive title for Sony's PS3, it delivered one of the better shooters to come along in a long time. Get your hands on this game.

Exit 2 doesn't feel like a sequel as much as more levels with a few added twists. All of the issues from the original are back: The controls are awkward. The pacing is horrid. The AI needs work. But hey, at least a good number of the puzzles are interesting and there are a lot of them. If you can get past the problems, you'll find a game that will certainly offer its money's worth. For many, me included, it's simply going to put you to sleep.

Noby Noby Boy is certainly an ambitious title, if ambitious is indeed the correct word. It just doesn't work for me. You'll occasionally see something weird and funny, and the rope-esque physics are very well implemented, but that's just not enough. I will say that the concept of GIRL is cool and if the community helps her grow to reach new planets, then that's great. But really, though, Noby Noby Boy feels like a tech demo with a couple cool concepts to me, and nothing more.

50 Cent: Blood on the Sand is certain to settle the debate over whether or not games are art. But the debate over whether or not you should play this game is going to rage on through the rest of the year. Blood on the Sand isn't broken, but it is at times unimaginative. If Gears of War 2's mantra was "Bigger, badder, more bad ass," then BOTS's should have been "Fiddy, Fiddier, more fiddier." Instead it's just one five-hour "Fiddy." There's no mistaking that this is a fun game to play -- particularly with a buddy -- but it's in no way excellent. Though I'd love nothing more than for people to put some coin in Fiddy's piggy bank, I'd recommend renting rather than buying.
