I Am Fish is wacky, hilarious, and sometimes agonizing, but still well worth the time for those with a stomach for it. Its intentionally maddening controls and platforming are gimmicks that sometimes overstay their welcome, especially when bad checkpointing and cheap deaths undo all your progress, but most of the time it does a good job at balancing difficulty and rewarding persistence. Even after hundreds of humbling deaths, its lasting charm stuck with me the whole way through.

It may look like a 20-year-old energy drink commercial crossed with the best-looking Dreamcast game never made, but Cruis’n Blast is an endearingly earnest arcade racing time capsule filled with goofy, crowd-pleasing vehicles and a small assortment of zany tracks. However, it’s also an extremely lean package that struggles to disguise its origins as a wafer-thin 2017 arcade cabinet. It’s fun, fast, and eye-catchingly daft but take care diving in, because it’s only ankle-deep.

Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions is easy to pick up and play but has very little to keep folks hanging around, even for Rocky and Creed saga superfans. It simply doesn’t have the modes, the content, or the atmosphere to truly go the distance.

The moments when Clid the Snail are at its best are few and far between. Decent dialogue and a basic but satisfying story can’t make up for the shallow level design, dumb enemy AI, and aggravating encounters. Even its strong points, like its varied weapon selection and a unique take on the post-apocalypse, feel hampered by the lack of firepower and poor coloring and ugly camera filter, respectively. If you’re a twin-stick shooter junkie looking for a new fix, this one isn’t worth leaving your shell for.

Under all the aggravating bugs and shoddy design, Baldo: The Guardian Owls is a vast action-adventure RPG filled with puzzles and treasures to find. If you stick with it long enough, you can have some genuine fun exploring this Ghibli-style world and its simple story, but it hardly pays off by the very end. The vast sea of technical issues and unfair enemies you need to pass through with little or no direction before you get there make it easy to see a lot of people quitting Baldo before they’ve given it anywhere near that long.

While the idea of another battle royale was an initially tiresome thought, Naraka: Bladepoint ended up being the refreshing take on the genre that I've craved for years now. Mastering the intricacies of its combat and movement systems will keep me happily busy for weeks and months to come. Yeah, boring bot matches and finicky servers can drag it down at times, but both are already becoming little more than a fleeting memory. If you fancy a challenging battle royale free of build wars and machine guns, Naraka: Bladepoint provides a genuinely clever spin on the genre’s familiar formula.
