Bodycount benefits from a solid core, and plenty of moments entertained me throughout the campaign, including some of the more intense gunfights. But the disconnect between Bodycount's chaotic visual spectacle and its precise scoring system drive a large divide between how you want to play and how Bodycount expects you to play. The limited environmental palette and the lack of any real story further damper the fun. Despite the thrill of wrecking havoc on an unjust world, Bodycount lacks the polish and overall entertainment value of its peers.

Bodycount è stato studiato come un'ottima alternativa allo standard delle maggiori serie di FPS attuali, divertente e immediato, ma presenta alcuni difetti che ne minano fortemente la valutazione. Il sistema di combattimento semplice, basato su poche armi e l'utilizzo oculato delle quattro abilità, rimanda ad uno spirito arcade che cattura facilmente qualsiasi giocatore, mentre le possibilità d'interazione con gli scenari funzionano a dovere, seppure con i loro limiti intrinseci. Tuttavia la piattezza del level design impostato generalmente sul raggiungimento di vari punti di interesse a suon di pallottole, o in certi casi addirittura attraverso la semplice fuga a gambe levate, la mancanza di varietà nelle situazioni in cui si incorre, ma sopratutto la penuria di opzioni di gioco e l'evidente brevità della Campagna sono difetti che difficilmente si possono ignorare nell'attuale panorama degli FPS.

Spätestens ab dem Moment, an dem Stuart Black sich von der Bodycount-Entwicklung verabschiedete, hätte mir klar sein müssen, dass von dem geistigen Nachfolger des seinen Nachnamen tragenden Waffenpornos aus dem Jahre 2006 nicht mehr viel übrig bleiben dürfte. Doch die Hoffnung hatte bis jetzt alle zweifelnden Stimmen zum Schweigen gebracht, dass hier im schlimmsten Fall ballistischer Softcore seine Aufwartung macht. Unter dem Strich bleibt Bodycount jedoch in einer Post-Bulletstorm, -Killzone, -Resistance oder -Duke Nukem Forever-Ära (ja, der Duke!) zu viel schuldig. Dass die Story quasi nicht vorhanden ist, nehme ich bei einem selbst ernannten Arcade-Shooter noch hin. Doch die madige KI, das sich ständig wiederholende Leveldesign, das die grundsätzlich angenehm großen Abschnitte nach unten zieht oder das letztlich gewöhnliche Ballern liegen hinter heutzutage gültigen Standards. Immer wieder gibt es zwar kurze Momente, in denen die ballistischen Gefechte einen kurzzeitig in den Bann ziehen. Doch unter dem Strich sind diese zu selten, um etwas retten zu können. Nahezu alle Elemente, die man hier findet, kennt man besser um- und eingesetzt aus anderen Titeln. So taugt der Kugelhagel allenfalls als geschmacksfader Appetithappen für Resistance 3 oder Gears of War 3.

Bodycount, purtroppo, è una produzione senza capo ne coda; un mix di molte idee diverse, poche -purtroppo- vincenti e molte non proprio congeniali e funzionali. Un comparto tecnico di buona levatura ed un multiplayer divertente ed immediato non bastano questa volta a salvare il titolo dalla bocciatura. Un FPS tra i tanti, senza nulla di particolare che possa coinvolgere i videogiocatori.

Bodycount isn't a good game. It might provide a few hours of entertainment if you're into basic, straight-up shooting, but the controls and dodgy AI will likely put off most players.
