Sniper Elite III's open level designs and objectives pack in more than enough variety and stealthy tension to counterbalance its thin story and shaky enemy intelligence, and experimenting with its explosive traps is almost as fun as popping skulls with a sniper rifle. The skeleton-shattering, long-distance kills are still its riveting centerpiece, of course, but even without the element of dumb fun they offer, Sniper Elite III would still be a smart, unexpectedly memorable experience.

Sniper Elite 3 Ultimate Edition is a nice port of Sniper Elite 3 with all the DLC included. The gameplay is tactical and requires patience, which may not be for everyone. Some tasks and situations can be frustrating, but you can still have a good time.

This score is ultimately a reflection of both Sniper Elite 3 Ultimate Edition the game (which is excellent) and the Nintendo Switch hardware (which while also excellent, I found not up to this task when trying to play handheld). The determination here is: if you're happy to play this game with your Switch in console mode, you're in for a grand old time; if you want to keep things handheld, better to try something else.

Sniper Elite 3 Ultimate Edition ha il merito di portare anche su Nintendo Switch la serie Rebellion, ma con un episodio che oramai sente parecchio il peso degli anni. Mancano infatti i miglioramenti al gunplay negli scontri dalla media distanza introdotti solo con il quarto capitolo, gli scenari sono discretamente ampi ma molto lineari nella loro connotazione, l'intelligenza artificiale è piuttosto lacunosa e la formula non si distacca più di tanto da quella degli esordi: piacevole finché si resta nell'ambito ristretto dell'attenta pianificazione e dei tiri dalla distanza, incerta e traballante non appena ci si muove al di fuori di quei confini.

Non bastano i Rumble HD, i motion control o la co-op locale (ma non in split-screen) a far chiudere un occhio sulla grafica vetusta, sui compromessi tecnici necessari a far girare stabilmente il gioco o sui limiti di design che azzoppano l'esperienza sin dal lancio risalente al 2014: insomma, non sarà Sniper Elite 3 Ultimate Edition su Nintendo Switch a farvi innamorare della saga di Rebellion Ma se lo avete amato sulle altre console e sentite l'irrefrenabile bisogno di portare Karl Fairburne sempre con voi, o se a titillarvi sono il prezzo budget (39,98 € la versione scatolata, 34,98 € quella digitale) e la mancanza di titoli del genere nel sempre più vasto catalogo della console ibrida della grande N, allora potete seriamente prendere in considerazione l'idea di acquistarlo, tenendo ben in mente di avere davanti un gioco con 5 anni sul groppone che, in termini grafici e ludici, si sentono eccome.
