Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess offers up the definitive edition of the newest entry in the series. As a result, it's a highly-polished experience that benefits from some extra care. There isn't a lot wrong with the game objectively, and the concept is executed about as well as could be expected. The graphics aren't going to push the PS4 to its limits, but the soundtrack is stirring and something that will catch many off-guard. Anyone looking to get into the Deception series should do so with The Nightmare Princess, it's as a top-notch game and one destined to be a cult classic down the line.

Viele der Schwächen des Originals sind nach wie vor vorhanden: Die Standard-Gegner verhalten sich nur selten intelligent. Der Spielablauf kann repetitiv werden. Und auch die manchmal unfair agierenden Bosse sind ebenso präsent wie in der Urversion aus dem letzten Jahr. Doch das gilt natürlich auch für die Stärken: Das Experimentieren mit den Fallen und die Belohnung für besonders fiese Kombinationen zu kassieren, macht Spaß – auch wenn die Grundstimmung düsterer sein könnte und die gelegentliche Albernheit nicht benötigt. Die neue Kampagne rund um die Albtraum-Prinzessin Velguirie ist erzählerisch trotz dieses Mankos aber ebenso gelungen wie die ihrer Kollegin Laegrinna. Und obendrauf bekommt man mit dem „Studio“ die Möglichkeit, eigene Szenarien zu erstellen und diese mit anderen Deception-Fans zu teilen. Zudem hat Tecmo Koei die Gunst der Stunde genutzt und beim Wechsel auf die neue Konsole die Kulisse rundum renoviert. Zeitgemäß ist sie dadurch zwar immer noch nicht, doch deutlich ansehnlicher und sauberer als seinerzeit auf der PS3 ist das Fallenstellen allemal.

Esta remasterización (aunque en PS4 se trata de un título nuevo) del Deception IV genuino presenta un amplio número de novedades que, a nuestro parecer, pueden merecer la pena probar incluso para aquellos usuarios que ya disfrutaron del título original. Por su singular planteamiento y mecánica de juego no se trata de una aventura destinada a satisfacer a todos los usuarios, pero se trata de un título de culto notable y que presenta una jugabilidad muy fresca.

Le missioni del Quest Mode, vera novità del gioco, sono leggermente diverse da quelle di Laegrinna, e richiedono al giocatore di compiere alcuni compiti particolari per essere portate a termine. Questo significa che molte di esse ci forzeranno a giocare in un modo piuttosto che in un altro, costringendoci a variare costantemente il nostro modo di approcciare i combattimenti. Sono modifiche curiose, ma non sufficienti a rinfrescare un sistema di gioco ormai vecchio, ripetitivo, lento e macchinoso come pochi. Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess mantiene praticamente tutti i difetti e i pregi di Blood Ties. Peccato, perché il concept che anima la serie è senza ombra di dubbio originale e ricco di potenziale inespresso. L'incremento contenutistico c'è stato ed è importante, ma il senso di déjà-vu che scaturisce giocando alle missioni inedite è davvero troppo forte per passare inosservato: i nuovi stage sono troppo simili ai vecchi per risultare davvero interessanti. Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess è un titolo consigliato soltanto agli appassionati dei capitoli precedenti, soprattutto quelli che si sono persi l'episodio uscito su PS3 poco più di un anno fa. Tutti gli altri possono tranquillamente rivolgere il proprio sguardo altrove.

Pour terminer, Deception IV : The Nightmare Princess s’avère être un jeu surprenant, original et addictif pour peu que l’on adhère à ce concept. Notre petit titre concernant « une déception complète » n’était là, bien évidemment, que pour souligner la présence du nouveau contenu en comparaison au jeu original. En plus de cela, le jeu est entièrement traduit en français, ce qui n’est pas toujours le cas avec ce style de titre. Malheureusement, les problèmes de jouabilité et plus précisément de caméra viennent gâcher cette expérience de jeu. De plus, le soft peut s’avérer extrêmement répétitif mais malgré cela, il se démarque avec son univers glauque et sortant des sentiers battus. Bref, Deception IV : The Nightmare est diaboliquement prenant mais il se restreint à un public bien particulier. Il mérite tout de même de susciter votre intérêt.

On aurait pu se dire que Tecmo Koei profiterait de cette extension pour repenser et dépoussiérer les mécaniques de son jeu, il n'en est malheureusement rien. Malgré quelques idées sympathiques, les ajouts conséquents de contenu semblent se concentrer sur la quantité plus que la qualité, et il est fort probable qu'une majorité de joueurs ne se prenne pas suffisamment de passion pour adhérer au concept sur le long terme. Osons donc le jeu de mot évident (mais incorrect) : Nightmare Princess est une déception.
