Wolfenstein : The Old Blood est un bon épisode stand-alone qui ravira les amateurs de The New Order. Offrant une ambiance beaucoup plus proche du jeu original, il offre un dépaysement complet aussi bien au niveau des environnements que de la structure du jeu. C'est l'occasion de replonger pour quelques heures dans l'un des meilleurs FPS de l'année passée.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood still retains all the satisfying gameplay that made The New Order one of the best shooters of 2014. It’s not as long as the original; lasting around 4-5 hours, but it does include a decent challenge mode to increase longevity. For £14.99 digitally it's worth it for a nice afternoon of killing some Nazis.

The New Order devolvió a la saga Wolfenstein al lugar que nunca debió abandonar, y esta expansión la mantiene ahí arriba gracias a lo trepidante de su acción y su impecable puesta en escena. Hay pocas novedades de peso en lo jugable, es verdad, pero echarse una partida a The Old Blood es tan divertido que cualquier fallo del estilo se pasa por alto. Si te gustó el regreso de Wolfenstein al mundo de los videojuegos, no deberías perderte lo nuevo de MachineGames.

Für Wolfenstein: The Old Blood hat Machine Games die besten Elemente aus New Order genommen, überflüssigen Ballast über Bord geworfen und so einen durchgestyltes Prequel erschaffen, das mich mit der aufs Wesentliche komprimierten Kampagne, den abwechslungsreichen Schauplätzen und der stringenteren Regie deutlich besser unterhalten hat als der große Bruder. Deshalb sehe ich diese eigenständige Erweiterung trotz vieler Parallelen zum Vorgänger auch weniger als ein „More of the same“, sondern viel mehr als ein „Best of“ der Reihe, die nach dem zähen Einstieg schließlich mit guten Tempowechseln sowie der richtigen Mischung aus knallharter Action und Humor punktet. Schade nur, dass man sich nicht auch von Altlasten wie der nervigen Sammelmechanik auf Knopfdruck verabschiedet, die Waffensounds stärker aufgepeppt und den Schwierigkeitsgrad im Kampf gegen die Wellen von KI-Deppen nicht besser ausbalanciert hat. Trotzdem entschädigen das tolle Finale, die witzigen Retro-Alpträume und die gelungene Überleitung zu New Order für den einen oder anderen zähen Moment innerhalb der aufregenden Jagd nach der begehrten Akte.

The Old Blood sigue las máximas de una expansión a rajatabla, aunque esto pueda volverse en su contra en ciertos momentos. En lo menos bueno, nos encontramos con que prácticamente no innova, dando la sensación de DLC camuflado. Pero esto se nos olvida durante la mayor parte del tiempo, ya que resulta divertido a rabiar en todo momento, aunque evidentemente no rezuma la frescura de hace un año.

Wolfenstein : The Old Blood est une réussite, qu'il faut aborder pour ce qu'elle est : une excellente occasion de prolonger l'aventure de The New Order. Pour 20 €, vous profiterez d'une expérience terriblement fun, nerveuse et défouloir qui vous occupera entre 6 et 8 heures en fonction de votre façon de jouer et du niveau de difficulté choisi. Si l'on peut reprocher à The Old Blood de sous-exploiter des nouveautés de toute façon très timides, de ne pas avoir corrigé les erreurs du grand frère, son scénario pas franchement palpitant ou sa trop grande facilité, il vous serait préjudiciable de passer à côté du stand-alone si vous avez apprécié The New Order.

La carne al fuoco in Wolfenstein: The Old Blood non manca affatto: a dispetto di qualche passo falso, l'espansione è solida e senza dubbio in grado di regalare divertimento ed emozioni (anche per i nuovi arrivati...), a maggior ragione considerando il notevole rapporto qualità/prezzo (20 Euro per 7-8 ore di campagna più le sfide, difficilissime ma anche assai appaganti, sembrano un buonissimo compromesso). Resta comunque innegabile la sensazione che rispetto all'eccellente The New Order qualcosa si sia assolutamente perso per strada: la narrazione è molto più implicita, più contenuta e di conseguenza meno incisiva, il ritmo meno incalzante (davvero serviva togliere per ben tre volte le armi al protagonista in otto capitoli?) e si registrano sezioni abbastanza discutibili (l'inizio, lo scontro con un boss a metà della campagna, i combattimenti contro alcuni tipi di nemici introdotti verso la fine dell'avventura in generale meno convincenti dei duelli con i soldati standard). Da fan accanito di The New Order, le aspettative erano forse onestamente un po' troppo alte ed emotivamente serpeggia quasi un pizzico di delusione. Inquadrando invece le cose da una prospettiva più oggettiva, a mente fredda, The Old Blood resta comunque un esperimento lodevole e riuscito, consigliabile a chiunque voglia godersi un FPS come non ne fanno praticamente più: anche qui ci si diverte, ma semplicemente non è l'esperienza galvanizzante e memorabile del Wolfenstein appena passato. Insomma, un eventuale antipastino sfizioso nell'attesa di una nuova portata principale ben più ghiotta.

Wolfenstein: The New Order established a new life into the Wolfenstein series. While that life has not been squashed with The Old Blood's release, it has taken a slight hit. Many of the key aspects that made The New Order so enjoyable have not been carried over into The Old Blood. Of course, the enjoyable combat is still available to all, and is still a blast to partake in with the new weapons being absolutely brilliant additions. But, in the end, you cannot help but think, "this could and should have been so much more."

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood places almost all its bets on the intense combat carried over from the game that came before it. The weapons feel great, and the arenas are interesting and filled with opportunity for some strategic creativity. But by doing this, The Old Blood misses out on some of the quieter moments that made The New Order so special. The Old Blood doubles down on blood and guts, but in doing so sacrifices some of its heart.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is more of Wolfenstein: The New Order. It’s the same gameplay and same perk system with similar design choices that made last year’s The New Order such a hit. Outside of the new story and a few new gameplay mechanics, there’s not a whole lot new about The Old Blood. This is a standalone expansion, however, and The Old Blood succeeds in what it sets out to do; give us more of The New Order. Is Wolfenstein: The Old Blood necessary to understand or enjoy the The New Order? No, but it does add a fun side-mission that further enhances the world of Wolfenstein. Coming in at only $19.99, there’s plenty of content and story here to make a return to Wolfenstein worth a purchase.
