Limando molte delle imperfezioni di Prototype ed aggiungendo, secondo la collaudata formula del Bigger and Better, una buona mole di nuovi contenuti, Prototype 2 si presenta come un buonissimo prodotto, nonché come un’ideale sequel. La varietà di situazioni ed approcci ed una pletora di poteri a nostra disposizione, renderà capace quest’action game dalla trama non certo centralissima di mantenere incollato a schermo il giocatore, offrendogli persino qualche interessante sfida online. Solo una mancata spinta nella caratterizzazione dei personaggi ed alcune piccole problematiche riguardo all’impianto ludico frenano la produzione Radical Entertainment dal toccare la vetta - rendendola comunque passabile di spassionato consiglio, specialmente avendo apprezzato il primo capitolo.

Nonostante tutti i suoi evidenti nei e la sua evoluzione parziale, l’avventura di James Heller eccelle nel dare al giocatore delle possibilità pressappoco infinite: tutto è possibile, nei limiti di un codice violento, decisamente da non seguire nella vita di tutti i giorni! Heller riesce da solo in ciò per cui Attila aveva bisogno del sale: dietro di lui non solo non cresce più l’erba ma, probabilmente, nessun tipo di forma di vita. Ed è dalla soddisfazione che scaturisce da simili, malate soddisfazioni che viene tutto il buono di Prototype 2 : forse un lavoro di rifinitura, forse non un vero e proprio sequel quanto piuttosto un corposissimo DLC su disco, ma di certo la ricetta perfetta per la ‘devastazione spensierata’, troppo assurda per poter essere paragonata alla realtà, troppo esagerata per vederla trasposta negli altri titoli d’azione. Uno basta, forse a tratti avanza pure: uno, uno e due, insieme, i due prototipi della distruzione totale, tanto simili quanto egualmente affascinanti. Quando impugnate il joypad, lasciate l’etica alle vostre spalle per recuperarla solo in un secondo momento: pare che James Heller non ne abbia proprio bisogno. E poi via, pronti a cadere, come una meteora confusionaria, sulla prima operazione sul campo visibile… Un fischio, e il cemento si sgretola. Come una strana poesia, nel suo ripetitivo ritmo vermiglio.

Prototype s'offre une suite relativement sympathique qui saura assurément se faire une place dans le cœur des fans. Toujours plus violent, notamment grâce à l'ajout de nouveaux pouvoirs dévastateurs, ce titre gore à souhait offre ainsi une expérience aussi jouissive qu'accessible. Si le scénario déçoit et que quelques défauts plus ou moins gênants sont de la partie, Prototype 2 n'en reste pas moins une très bonne pioche que nous ne pouvons que vous conseiller.

Prototype 2: Nicht gerade hässlich, aber auch weit von hübsch entfernt. Jede Menge Missionen, die aber größtenteils ähnlich aufgebaut sind, wodurch es ihnen auf Dauer an Abwechslung mangelt. Das Absorbieren von Personen macht Spaß und verleiht dem Spiel einen interessanten taktischen Kniff – bis man dahinter kommt, dass man auf die Pseudo-Schleicherei pfeifen und einfach die Klingenarme zücken kann, das Ergebnis ist das Gleiche und deutlich einfacher. Das Spieldesign: Lediglich eine Verfeinerung der Formel des schwachen Vorgängers. Ein klassisches Wechselbad der Gefühle also. Und dennoch hat es mich unterhalten: Zwar fehlt Hellers Rachemission die Ironie und Over-the-Top-Action der Konkurrenz, aber das wird mit einer gut präsentierten Handlung und simpler, aber sehr flotter Action ausgeglichen. New York Zero ist ein schön designter, sehr großer Spielplatz, in dem es fast keine Grenzen gibt – ob Land oder Luft, Heller kommt überall mühelos voran; beim Rasen über Straßen, Häuser und Dächer schnell stellt sich ein motivierender Fluss ein, durch den die Umgebung zu einem Action-Sandkasten mutiert. Und obgleich die Kämpfe simpel sind – die Regie stimmt: Überall kracht und rummst es, man tritt gegen viele Feinde gleichzeitig an, die aus allen Richtungen auf einen einstürmen. Und dennoch knirscht der Sand im Getriebe: Das uninspirierte Missionsdesign raubt viel von der Faszination. Schade, denn dadurch bleibt Prototype 2 unterm Strich trotz aller Freude nur ein solider, aber leider kein herausragender Open-World-Spaß.

Having no impact is kind of the M.O. of Prototype 2. I enjoyed leveling up Heller and completing side quests, but none of it really meant anything to me. Outside of the Trophies I have for my efforts, I doubt I'll remember much of Prototype 2's sterile side missions and curse word-laden dialogue. Prototype 2 is fun, but it sure is forgettable.

Prototype 2 is a peculiar game. It offers so much, yet produces so little. From the moment it begins, there is a constant sense that something is not quite right and for every great thing it gives the player to do, there is something holding it back. It is, by no means, a bad game but it lacks some of the appeal of its predecessor simply because it just isn’t as fun.
