Call of Juarez: The Cartel non si dimostra in grado di uscire dal guscio di mediocrità che già si era creato in fase di preview. Pesanti lacune in fase realizzativa, anche a fronte di un gameplay scorrevole, non riescono ad elevare l’esperienza al di sopra della sufficienza, garantita peraltro soltanto da alcuni elementi particolarmente ben implementati. L’acquisto è consigliato insomma solo ai grandi fan della saga o a chi cercasse una delle poche produzioni in grado di offrire una succulenta coop per tre giocatori, conscio, in ogni caso, dei limiti qui descritti.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel is pretty fun at times, mainly in the online modes. Fortunately the game seems built around these pieces, and depending on your level of sensibilities there’s actually alot of fun that can be had with this game. For me, my sensibilities got the best of me and I didn’t really enjoy the single player portion. As for multiplayer, while fun, it’s full of poor net-coding that could get worked out in the coming weeks, but for now it’s just another multiplayer that is too ambitious for its own good. Fun in small doses, yes, but far from a masterpiece. Call of Juarez: The Cartel suffers death by a 1000 papercuts, so many tiny details that could have been worked out and polished up before launch.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel is a poor change of pace for the franchise. Taking the story into modern times seems to have robbed it of its passion and charm, replacing it with asinine characters and more cuss words than an Al Pacino flick. It’s not the worst shooter I’ve played, but it’s got all the problems of a budget title and few redeeming qualities to make it worth recommending.

Prenez une formule qui marche correctement et faites en un navet. Après deux volets certes perfectibles mais plutôt sympathiques, Techland nous sort une version moderne de sa série qui, non contente d'avoir perdu en personnalité et gagné en clichés tout nases, n'a même pas un gameplay potable. Un bien bel échec.

Most aspects of Call of Juarez: The Cartel are dated, from the visual look to its gameplay mechanics. There are also quite a few glitches including one that causes multiplayer lobbies to freeze. Unless you're a diehard fan of the series, I'd say avoid this one at all costs.

Oder war es gar Techland selbst, das sich mit einer Schnellschuss-Fortsetzung der namhaften Serie ein paar Kröten für die Dead Island-Entwicklung sichern wollte? Nach mehr sieht das Call of Juarez, das keins mehr ist, jedenfalls nicht aus: Man rennt durch die überall gleich aussehenden Viertel eines öden Los Angeles‘, ärgert sich über das lieblose Recycling einiger Abschnitte aus den Vorgängern und ist froh, wenn der Spuk im halbwegs schicken Mexiko endlich ein Ende hat. Man ballert in Zeitlupe oder zweihändig, vermisst den Rumms einer zeitgemäßen Inszenierung und kann über die ständig brüllenden und fluchenden C-Film-Akteure nur staunen. Dass The Cartel auch noch mit technischen Fehlern kämpft, passt da nur ins Bild. Es hat ja was für sich, sich erstens gedankenlos und zweitens zu dritt an den peinlichen Filmszenen vorbei zu ballern. Und das Team Deathmatch macht mit seinem Partnerkampf sogar mal richtig Laune. Die überschaubaren Verhaltensmuster von Gegnern und Begleitern, die banale Heimlichtuerei beim Aufsammeln von Bonusgegenständen und das monotone Sprinten durch spielerisch einfallslose Kulissen – das alles schreit aber einfach: „Hallo, ich bin ein Ballerbaukasten vom Levelfließband und heiße wie ein großes Spiel!“ Dabei ist es so klein.
