Che Axiom Verge fosse un buon titolo si poteva intuire, il fatto che sia così buono però è una vera sorpresa. Pur essendo traboccante di riferimenti al passato, è un gioco talmente ricco di sostanza che non ne avrebbe alcun bisogno per farvi rimanere incollati allo schermo. Ogni stanza, ogni arma, ogni scoperta vi spingerà un po' più in là, mantenendovi in un felice e continuo stato di "trance agonistica". Un gioco che vi costringerà a toccarvi la barba, per ricordarvi che non siete i voi stessi di vent'anni fa e che domani non si va a scuola. Una delle migliori proposte del 2015.

Old school merely in looks, Axiom Verge is the definition of a great action and explorations game. The Metroidvania genre has rarely been done this well and this adventure deserves to be held up there among the greats like Symphony of the Night and the original Metroid.

Axiom Verge s'inscrit comme le Metroid-like du moment et rend dignement hommage aux titres majeurs du genre. Certes, quelques défauts viennent entacher l'aventure mais ils sont vite oubliés face aux qualités indéniables que possède le titre de Thomas Happ. Si vous recherchez un jeu typé rétro à la saveur des Metroid d'antan, vous pouvez pénétrer dans le monde d'Axiom Verge sans problème.

Le tracce che sembrano uscite da una collezione MIDI di acidissimi brani trance, una pixel art che riesce a costruire un curioso universo Sci-Fi, ma soprattutto una progressione quasi sempre ben scandita, che alterna nervose boss fight ed esplorazione meticolosa, rendono quella di Axiom Verge un'esperienza solida e piacevole. Soprattutto per chi è cresciuto con Turrican, Blaster Master e Metroid. A tratti la dose di backtracking rischia di farsi eccessiva, ma l'avventura scorre senza mai essere frustrante (almeno per chi è abituato ad una struttura di questo tipo). La presenza di un numero traboccante di gadget e abilità, e di una cospicua dose di segreti, vi terrà impegnati per un bel numero di ore, nel tentativo di scoprire gli occulti misteri di Sudra. Dopo Shovel Knight, insomma, Axiom Verge è la riprova che un canone ludico così antico può ancora generare gemme di rara bellezza.

Flaws aside, Axiom Verge is a stunning achievement for one man to have developed entirely by himself. It's not as good as Super Metroid, but it's close. Some of its more annoying flaws, like the lack of crucial information on the map screen and the frustrating boss fights, hold it back from being one of the greats, but don't hold back a recommendation at all. Axiom Verge looks, sounds and plays great. It carries a lot of value for your buck, and it's the kind of game you'll be happy to own so you can hop back into it from time to time. Axiom Verge is absolutely worth your time if you're a fan of old-school Metroidvania games, but even if you're not, it'll still be a lot of fun.

Despite occasional moments of feeling slightly uncomfortable by just how much Axiom Verge feels like Metroid, I still felt compelled to see this journey to the end. The weapons feel great, the character progression is rewarding, and bringing down a massive boss is awesome. While I wish it balanced its lack of mission explanations with its overabundance of exposition, I still really enjoyed my time in its strange, yet familiar world

D’une manière générale, Axiom Verge peut satisfaire tout type de public : celles et ceux qui ont connus la belle Samus du temps de la NES, et les autres qui découvriront le genre du Metroidvania avec un opus faisant le travail à merveille. Un level-design soigné, des Boss charismatiques et une direction artistique aux petits oignons, ce qui est sûr, c’est que l’emballage a tout pour séduire. Certes, il n’est pas exempt de défauts, mais souvenons-nous que le jeu a été développé par une seule personne : Thomas Happ. À lui seul, le bougre a réussi le pari de rendre hommage à ce genre de jeu un poil délaissé depuis quelques temps, en prenant comme modèle le père du genre : Metroid. Et le moins que l’on puisse dire, c’est que le pari est réussi ! En revanche, est-ce que le titre vaut les 15 euros demandés pour son achat ? Difficile de dire, même pour les connaisseurs, mais si vous n’êtes pas fan du genre, attendez plutôt une promotion, car il n’est pas dit que vous accrochiez au style du jeu.

Axiom Verge llega como tapado, pero puede consolidarse como uno de los mejores títulos independientes del año. Para ello, el mercado debe corresponderle. Desborda calidad por todos sus poros, además de llegar con la intención de homenajear a un género con el que muchos hemos crecido. Una muestra de talento y poderío, que duplica su mérito por estar desarrollado por una sola persona.
