Ys VIII est un jeu absolument passionnant. Une partition jouée à merveille. Un rythme qui vous embarque dans une exploration enragée, interrompue de sollicitations communautaires, fragmenté de révélation inattendue et entaillé d'une belle histoire originaire. Un jeu généreux tel que le jeu vidéo pouvait se concevoir, sans sous-entendu ou double lecture, un divertissement en somme.

It took years for Falcom to develop the perfect entry in the series, and with Ys VIII: Lacrimosa Of Dana, they finally managed to do so by refining the renewed story focus and gameplay mechanics introduced in Ys Seven without taking away what makes the series so enjoyable. With a well-executed, albeit not really original story, charming cast, fast paced battle system, engaging boss battles, tight challenge level and plenty of side-content, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa Of Dana is without a doubt the best entry in the series and one of the best action role-playing games released this year.

Lost in Blue meets Xenoblade is not a matchup I would have ever thought of, but it’s a solid one with a great foundation of fun combat, great premise, amazing music and nice story. The few problems it has are pervasive and distracting, but never enough to really turn you off. While it doesn’t have a volleyball character, I’d still recommend it to most any RPG fan.

Ys is a series that has never been a triple A level spectacle, but has consistently put out memorable games for close to three decades. As a long-time follower of the franchise having first been introduced to this world in Ys III: Wanderers From Ys on the SNES (later remade in 3D for PSP called Oath in Felgana), this is quite possibly the best Ys title to date. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana doesn't deviate far from what Ys games are known for, it just takes what they do and expands on them. The story isn't Shakespearean, but it's more developed and interesting than what was shown in previous titles, and while the characters are still trope-based, they have more depth than seen in previous entries and this is on top of improvements in graphics and music composition. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana shows the series maturing a bit but without deviating too far from what made us fans in the first place.

Formidable machine de combat, Ys VIII : Lacrimosa of DANA innove et rénove presque à tous les niveaux. Affrontements ultra-rapides et lisibles, exploration pleine de surprises, ennemis variés, boss exigeants, personnages attachants, le dernier Nihon Falcom démontre à véritable savoir-faire en la matière A-RPG, réussissant même à intégrer naturellement des mécaniques jusqu’ici étrangères à la série. Un très bon titre donc. Seule une technique un peu en-deçà des attentes le dessert un peu. Mais c’est bien peu face au plaisir de visiter Seiren, et d’en dévoiler chaque secret.
