Oui, Devil's Third n'est pas franchement beau, quitte à être même carrément dépassé par moments. Et oui, certaines lacunes sont agaçantes. Pour autant, il propose un gameplay bien pensé qui cherche avant tout à nous amuser. Pour peu que l'on accroche au ton un rien décalé du titre, le premier titre de Valhala Games est vraiment, vraiment divertissant. Courir dans tous les sens, glisser, mitrailler, trancher, enchaîner les attaques au corps à corps, tout cela devient grisant lorsque l'on commence à maîtriser le jeu (ce qui vient vite), transformant Ivan en une ballerine mortelle, danseur semant le chaos et la mort à chaque rond de jambe. L'aventure peut se prolonger via un mode multijoueur pas forcément original mais très complet. Devil's Third n'est pas le No More Heroes ou le MadWorld de la Wii U, et ce n'est clairement pas le jeu de l'année, mais il a suffisamment de qualités pour mériter votre attention.

Una decepción profunda nos hemos llevado con el juego de Tomonobu Itagaki. Devil's Third es un juego plano y poco destacable tanto en términos técnicos como de mecánicas o argumentalmente. Solo sus opciones online llegan para elevar un tanto el listón de un título que sin ellas habría sido un completo fracaso.

Campaña genérica y de acabado regular unida a un multijugador trabajado pero que aún así genera dudas. Este es el resumen de Devil's Third, un videojuego que lejos de cumplir lo prometido por Itagaki, se convierte en un título de acción con un planteamiento interesante (shooter con "hack and slash") pero que resulta monótono y algo desfasado en sus mecánicas. No existen muchas alternativas en Wii U, y por ello es una opción, pero lejos de la calidad que deseamos para un videojuego.

Seit der ersten Ankündigung habe ich mich als erklärter Fan der Arbeit von Tomonobu Itagaki auf Devil’s Third gefreut. Und diese Vorfreude hat auch nicht gelitten, als Nintendo die WiiU-Exklusivität der Action verkündete und ich damit nach Bayonetta 2 einmal mehr das Gefühl hatte, dass sich die Anschaffung der Konsole gelohnt hat. Doch nicht einmal die euphorische Vorfreude konnte die Ernüchterung kaschieren, die sich im Prinzip kurz nach dem Einschalten einstellte und mich über die gesamte Spielzeit begleitet hat. Devil’s Third will viel. Es will ein Shooter sein wie Call of Duty. Es will brachiale Nahkampf-Action à la Ninja Gaiden zelebrieren. Es will eine filmreife Story erzählen. Und es möchte Mehrspieler-Standards setzen. Doch egal in welchen Bereichen man sich umschaut, ist die Premiere des Valhalla Game Studios im Bestfall biederer Durchschnitt – all zu häufig noch nicht einmal das, vor allem auch erzählerisch . Ist Devil’s Third das schlechteste Spiel, das Nintendo je veröffentlicht hat, wie ein amerikanischer Kollege im Vorfeld schrieb? Nein, denn dann müsste man die Existenz von Spielen wie Wii Music ebenso abstreiten wie die des vierten Indiana-Jones-Filmes. Doch diese Action ist durchweg gewöhnlich und entgegen Itagakis Natur vollkommen unspektakulär. Nintendo hat sich im Gegensatz zum schlauen Bayonetta-2-Schachzug mit dieser Exklusivität keinen Gefallen getan.

Devil's Third è una delle massime espressioni videoludiche del trash involontario. Alla ricerca disperata di un'identità, la trama si muove fra personaggi tarantiniani, le esagerazioni di Suda51 e persino le suggestioni belliche di tanti blockbuster militaristi. Risultando però un guazzabuglio di eroi improbabili, di antagonisti senza nerbo, di questioni esposte con troppa fretta ed altrettanto sbrigativamente liquidate. Il gameplay spigoloso, il bilanciamento incomprensibile, il look desolante sono altrettante pugnalate per chi aspettava da Itagaki uno dei suoi classici colpi di testa. Sono le scelleratezze dell'impianto ludico ad affossare persino il multiplayer, che avrebbe altrimenti potuto essere sufficientemente denso da risultare interessante. Ma ritrovarsi a lottare costantemente con un sistema di controlli pensato male ed un gunplay “imbalsamato” non farà piacere neppure agli estimatori dell'online competitivo. Il consiglio spassionato, anche nel caso in cui siate fan in astinenza, è quello di lasciar fare, e aspettare il tempo che serve perché Devil's Third diventi uno di quei titoli interessanti proprio perché profondamente sbagliati.

Devil’s Third pèche au niveau graphique, ce qui est dommage car le titre est une bonne surprise, tant sur le gameplay que sur le multijoueur. Si vous êtes à la recherche d’un titre décalé, aux aspects violent, nerveux, où l’action prime et non les graphismes, ne cherchez plus ! Préparez-vous à semer le chaos dans les rangs ennemies car Devil’s Third est un bon jeu à apprécier.

Inutile girarci troppo attorno: Devil's Third è un brutto gioco, sotto ogni aspetto immaginabile. Nulla si salva dall'autentico disastro in cui è naufragata la tanto attesa opera prima del team formato da Tomonobu Itagaki dopo la sua dipartita da Tecmo: graficamente primitivo, dotato di un gameplay fallato in ogni sua componente, composto da una campagna in single player insulsa e da una modalità multiplayer che getta malamente alle ortiche alcune pur valide intuizioni, Devil's Third è un titolo così palesemente privo di qualità da candidarsi seriamente come una delle più infelici esclusive Wii U nella storia della console Nintendo.

A dispetto delle entusiastiche dichiarazioni sui social network di Tomonubu Itagaki - che, lo sappiamo tutti, è personaggio vulcanico e deliberatamente sopra le righe, anche se nello specifico se non ci fa forse forse effettivamente almeno un po' ci è - Devil's Third non solo non è affatto l'ennesimo capolavoro dell'estroso papà di Dead or Alive, ma è addirittura, al contrario, la sua ingiustificabile vergogna e il suo imbarazzante ludus horribilis: un disastro così rovinoso e catastrofico da mettere in discussione una carriera intera, che macchia in modo indelebile il curriculum di un game designer che dopo un tracollo simile dovrà per forza provare a ricostruirsi e a ritrovare la credibilità perduta (con risultati al momento assai difficili da prevedere, e comunque in larga parte tutt'altro che ottimistici). Il che, per un fan di Itagaki come me, fa sinceramente ancora più male. Da evitare senza pensarci due volte, anche perché, è bene esplicitarlo, non siamo assolutamente dalle parti del B-game così brutto da fare il giro diventando in qualche maniera intrigante grazie al suo fascino trash: anche al netto di (letteralmente) un paio di idee teoricamente valide, Devil's Third si presenta male e purtroppo si gioca ancora peggio. Inquietante.

Devil’s Third is an exercise in cynicism, a video game seemingly created for people who secretly hate them. There’s barely even a seed of a good idea here, let alone a fully formed one. There isn’t a single part of Devil’s Third that does not feel as though it were ripped straight from a decade-old playbook, and its nihilistic reliance on simplistic violence reinforces that fact with every severed limb.
