While it could stand to be longer, if only to deliver more when it come to some of its more ambitious elements, Trek to Yomi is an amazing action game that makes terrific use of its cinematic presentation, using Kurosawa vibes to impact both the gameplay and visuals in clever ways. Intense swordfights are backed up by amazing visual flourishes, while a stark black and white world finds clever ways to highlight its more interesting aspects and pathways. It's a great cinematic homage worth getting popcorn to much on in between battles worthy of it.

Petit prix pour grande expérience, voilà ce qui résume simplement le nouveau bébé de Flying Wild Hog ! Devolver Digital gardera toujours l'art d'éditer des pépites, ils ont un flair que peu peuvent se vanter d'avoir. Le test étant assez élogieux que pour vous inviter à vous joindre à tous ceux qui ont déjà tâté la bête, il est temps pour moi d'aller chercher tous les succès et devenir le maître incontesté ! De plus, chers possesseurs du Game Pass, vous pouvez d'ores et déjà trouver le titre dans votre bibliothèque PC & Consoles.

Trek to Yomi è un buon gioco, anzi, è soprattutto una buona esperienza. Mischia con sapienza l'azione e la riflessione. Il combattimento e l'esplorazione. Peccato davvero per alcune ingenuità che lo rendono spesso poco user friendly e che sembrano derivare tutte più dall'inesperienza che dalla mancanza di tempo. Se siete amanti del folklore e della cultura giapponese avrete comunque di che cibarvi, seppur per il poco tempo della durata dell'esperienza.

In linea generale, Trek To Yomi ci ha conquistato e ci ha fatto vivere un’esperienza davvero unica, soprattutto guardando al suo lato tecnico e artistico. Un gioco che, per quanto si rifaccia al mito culturale dei samurai e delle loro artistiche evoluzioni di combattimento, non si focalizza però su questo aspetto, quanto sulla ricerca e sull’esplorazione, purtroppo con alcuni limiti tecnici e che avremmo goduto meglio in logica maggiormente ampliata, quasi simile a un open world, che però Trek To Yomi non è e non desidera essere. In definitiva, un’esperienza che sancisce ancora una volta il legame tra cinema e videogames, a dimostrazione di quanto l’intrattenimento sia sempre più fluido nei suoi confini e le commistioni e le prese a prestito di stilemi e linguaggi siano davvero gradevoli nel loro risultato finale. Senza però dimenticare gli elementi basilari dei prodotti di ciascuna arte.

Trek to Yomi è un gioco che punta soprattutto a stupire e affascinare con la sua ricercatezza estetica, ma non manca di offrire un gameplay piacevole nella sua linearità, seppur con qualche sbavatura di troppo. Gli amanti del cinema d'autore lo apprezzeranno sicuramente e grazie ai livelli di difficoltà può essere apprezzato sia da chi vuole soltanto godersi la storia, sia da chi cerca una sfida - per quanto a volte piuttosto ingiusta.

Trek to Yomi is a brief but captivating journey that’s like playing through a monochromatic Japanese movie, and that excellent presentation is enough to carry it even though it falls short in most other respects. Combat is one-note and easily mastered, and exploration and puzzles don’t have much to offer aside from a fleeting distraction. Thankfully, its relatively brief story was one that still drew me in enough to absolutely feel worth my time.

Trek to Yomi is a fun enough five hours for the money. I wasn’t expecting Ghost of Tsushima for $19.99, so I wasn’t disappointed with what I got. However, I’m a big weeb, love Kurosawa, and think katanas are cool. I’m not sure if those unfamiliar with the design principle behind the game will understand where it’s coming from. It might serve as a gateway drug to Japanese cinema for some, but I think many people will just be wondering why it’s in black and white instead of color. Overall, it’s like a samurai with a dull sword: flashy, but lacking the razor edge needed to cut its way through the shadow of its contemporaries.

Trek to Yomi è una storia di perdita, rettitudine, sacrificio e onore. Il suo stile inconfondibile e le sue chiare ispirazioni aiutano a modellare un'opera indipendente di grande fascino, che sebbene presenti qualche ingenuità nella gestione del sistema di combattimento, riesce tutto sommato a soddisfare gli amanti delle storie di samurai incastonate in uno dei periodi più iconici della storia del Giappone.

Menchiari y la división polaca de Flying Wild Hog se las arregla para ofrecer una experiencia muy personal, un tributo al cine de samuráis del siglo pasado que hará las delicias de todos los que disfrutasteis en su momento de películas como Yojimbo y que bien podría funcionar como una continuación de Rashômon.

Trek to Yomi omaggia la cinematografia nipponica del Bushido con un'avventura lineare e teatrale senz'altro godibile. La giocabilità piatta tende ad annacquare il tutto a lungo andare, riservando poche sorprese a livello di interattività. Una perla imperfetta, più bella da vedere che da giocare.

Trek to Yomi est une très belle œuvre cinématographique. Il n’a pas à pâlir devant les géants qui l’ont inspiré. Son usage de la caméra et du grain noir et blanc lui permettent de nous présenter des tableaux particulièrement somptueux. Ajoutez à cela des chorégraphies de combats qui font briller les yeux et vous obtenez une petite pépite de maîtrise artistique. Si l’on jugeait un jeu à cela, Trek to Yomi serait sans aucun doute en haut du classement. Mais malheureusement, le jeu est, en comparaison, trop peu poussé au niveau du gameplay. Ses choix superflus et ses combats répétitifs l’empêchent d’exprimer son plein potentiel. Cela dit, il vaut tout de même le détour et encore plus si vous êtes sensibles à ce genre d'œuvre vidéoludique.

Trek to Yomi es un auténtico homenaje al cine de Kurosawa desde el territorio del videojuego. Un título con una jugabilidad e historia sencilla, pero suficientemente cautivadora como para tenerte a sus mandos durante toda la partida. Algo repetitivo en los lances finales del juego y un tanto arriesgado en su puesta en escena en blanco y negro, que compromete algunos momentos de exploración del software. No obstante, es en los momentos de mayor inspiración en los que Trek to Yomi brilla con luz propia.

Unfortunately, good looks can only get you so far, as the gameplay and story don’t quite live up to the standards set by its art direction. But if you are in the mood for a samurai game, you could do worse than Trek to Yomi.

Trek to Yomi feels like a victim of its own cinematic inspirations and artistic ambitions. While satisfying at times, the combat is ultimately pretty one-note and begins to outstay its welcome by the time you've reached the end of Hiroki's journey. I'm a sucker for artistically driven indie experiences, but there's got to be some strong gameplay forming a foundation for it, and I can't say I overly enjoyed my time accompanying Hiroki on his quest for vengeance.
