Como ya hemos comentado a lo largo del artículo, Sniper Elite 5 es una continuación de manual, un más y mejor, que es justo lo que estábamos buscando. Estamos ante un juego divertídisimo, para nada revolucionario, pero sí con altas dosis de rejugabilidad, una enorme cantidad de opciones para abordar cada situación, unas dinámicas de sigilo competentes y una amplia variedad de modos cooperativos y competitivos. Le podemos achacar que es un tanto continuista, que sus animaciones claman una renovación y que la IA enemiga es estúpida, pero en todo lo demás es un juego muy disfrutable. Quizá por el hecho de que esté en Game Pass vea un crecimiento en su comunidad, y ojalá que sí, porque sin llegar a ser una serie de nicho, no se entiende que Sniper Elite se olvide en el imaginario colectivo.

Fans are in safe hands with Sniper Elite’s latest stealth sandbox. Rough edges and last-gen visuals and design leave this entry feeling slightly laggard in 2022, with the series needing to really shake up the formula. The mostly standout French levels and exceptionally tactical stealth action keep things just fresh enough for this fifth outing. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more gruesomely rewarding assassination sim this side of Hitman but be prepared for a sprinkling of jank on your sniping escargot.

While a few issues remain that hamper the experience, it's a no-brainer to proclaim Sniper Elite 5 has taken everything that made 4 as great as it was and improved it. The signature gameplay loop and general premise of picking one's shots is as satisfying as it always was. But it's what the game has added on top, around those figurative edges, that makes this year's release a thoroughly-entertaining package, be it entirely solo in its campaign or competitively elsewhere. It's this variety developer Rebellion utilise to great effect. A variance in visual design and more impressively how that's applied further through terrific level design on top -- serving as some of the series' best by far. And that's before we even factor in this year's compelling new addition via the Invasion Mode -- surprising not just in how well it integrates into the series' foundation, but how too it seemingly reshapes one's usual strategy and general mood going into this sort of game. A PvPvE spin whose biggest draw isn't so much the drive to get the winning kill, but the rampant tug-of-war that is the dread and tension a rival sniper (out there, somewhere) on the field brings. Look past the momentary technical gaffes and what you'll find with Sniper Elite 5 is a developer in Rebellion that even now can still find creative ways to excite and impress all over again.

Rebellion Developments stupisce ancora una volta con l’uscita di Sniper Elite 5. Stavolta il nostro Karl Fairburne deve addentrarsi dentro il territorio francese, durante il 1944, per supportare la resistenza francese, impedire che l’Asse possa riprendersi dalle ultime sconfitte belliche e scoprire cosa è il progetto Kraken. All’interno di questo piccolo Open World, non così open ma sicuramente vasto e ben ricostruito, dovremo compiere la nostra missione e completare stimolanti obiettivi secondari, come uccidere importanti nazisti, recuperare documenti e mettere fuori gioco le forze tedesche. Purtroppo l’AI dei nostri avversari non si dimostra sempre brillante, ma anche stavolta potremo scegliere se abbatterli dalla distanza con il nostro fucile da cecchino, gettarci nella mischia con pistole e mitra o dedicarci a un approccio più stealth, assalendoli silenziosamente alle spalle. Anche se la grafica generale non sempre è all’altezza delle aspettative, siamo rimasti soddisfatti dalle molte possibilità di personalizzazione di armi e personaggi, oltre alle molte modalità di gioco, soprattutto multiplayer. Tra tutte, la possibilità di vivere l’avventura in due o anche interpretare un cecchino tedesco e interferire con la partita di un altro giocatore. Tante possibilità differenti che fanno passare in secondo piano i pochi difetti del gioco e ci fanno tornare sul campo di battaglia in grande stile.

Unterm Strich ist Sniper Elite 5 also richtig gut geworden, wobei vor allem das spannende Infiltrieren und fiese Snipen Spaß macht. Rebellion inszeniert nie die ganz große Stealth-Action, weil das Verhalten der Gegner recht eindimensional ausfällt und von auffälligen KI-Fehlern begleitet wird. Dafür erledigt man an weitläufigen Schauplätzen zahlreiche Aufgaben, experimentiert mit verschiedenen Fallen und Waffen und beobachtet sogar, wie feindliche Wachen ihre Verwundeten in Sicherheit bringen. Der eigentliche Clou ist aber erst das Eindringen in die Kampagne anderer Spieler oder wenn einem das selbst passiert, denn sobald ein anderer Mensch mit von der Partie ist, wird aus dem routinierten Herumschleichen schnell ein herrlich spannender Thriller! Wie gesagt: Rechnet den Wellen-Modus, den umfangreichen PvP sowie die kooperative Kampagne hinzu und ihr wisst, was ihr an der diesjährigen Ausgabe des Scharfschützen-Abenteuers habt.

Sniper Elite 5 torna dopo cinque anni dal precedente capitolo con l’intento di migliorare in ogni aspetto aggiungendo qualche interessante sorpresa, come la possibilità di essere invasi da altri giocatori durante la campagna. I punti di forza della serie, ossia le fasi stealth e l’utilizzo dei fucili da cecchino, restano sempre di buona fattura e, anzi, i livelli sono ora molto più ampi e variegati, anche se non offrono un’interattività ambientale che riesca a sfruttare appieno queste nuove caratteristiche. Allo stesso tempo restano ancora alcuni marcati difetti, come gli scontri a fuoco diretti, realizzati male, e animazioni e modelli dei personaggi che appaiono poco curati.

Pur con qualche difetto tecnico di troppo, Sniper Elite 5 continua ad essere un gioco godibile e divertente, proprio come i capitoli che l’hanno preceduto. Grazie alle spettacolari uccisioni X-Ray, a mappe pensate per essere giocate più volte, a un gameplay immediato e a tante modalità diverse come la coop e le invasioni, il titolo Rebellion può tenere il giocatore impegnato ben più della decina di ore richieste per il solo completamento della campagna. Non possiamo inoltre ignorare l'aggiunta di Sniper Elite 5 su Xbox e PC Game Pass al lancio, fattore che contribuirà a popolare i server e, per via del cross-play, permetterà di trovare senza particolari problemi nuovi compagni o avversari da sfidare.

N’ayant pas vocation à bouleverser la formule de la franchise, Sniper Elite 5 reste fidèle à sa ligne de conduite, mais apporte quelques nouveautés très intéressantes. Bien que techniquement daté, le jeu propose une esthétique soignée et s’appuie sur des paysages français (dont le très vertical Mont Saint Michel) qui auront une résonnance particulière auprès des habitants de l’hexagone. Immersif et très bien pensé, il est toutefois entaché d’une intelligence artificielle irrégulière qui a parfois tendance à casser l’enthousiasme du joueur. Néanmoins, avec sa mise en scène spectaculaire, ses ralentis fracassants et son ambiance réussie (l’accent anglais à la française, tout un programme !), l’œuvre de Rebellion saura satisfaire les habitués de la franchise et les nouveaux arrivants. Une fois lancé, pas facile d’en décrocher, et c’est incontestablement un signe.

Sniper Elite 5 is an increasingly rare WWII game that actually does something new with the conflict. While its story has nothing new to say and its commitment to history can be a burden on its creative potential, its open-ended missions make for a devilishly enjoyable stealth action game. Its excessive violence can be a little hard to stomach, even for the most hardened gamers, but you can’t have a guilty pleasure without a heaping helping of self-indulgence.

Despite its numerous tweaks Sniper Elite 5 ultimately feels like more of an incremental upgrade than a major revolution, keeping it a half-pace ahead of Sniper Elite 4 rather than taking a big goose-step forward for the series. With a more manoeuvrable main star, modifiable weapons, enhanced co-op, and Axis Invasion allowing the hunter to become the hunted, Sniper Elite 5 is still a satisfying and spectacularly gross way to shoot Nazis in their nether regions -- but it feels like the series needs to start aiming its sights a little higher and find ways to avoid repeating the same handful of objectives so often.

Sniper Elite 5 si pone probabilmente come il miglior episodio della serie Rebellion, ma a ben cinque anni di distanza dal precedente capitolo era lecito attendersi miglioramenti più sostanziali rispetto a un paio di zipline, la possibilità di salire sui rampicanti, la ricarica attiva e il potenziamento delle abilità. La formula è infatti quella di sempre, ma sono rimasti al loro posto anche i problemi con il gunplay che non sia quello dalla distanza e la spiccata legnosità dei movimenti e delle interazioni del personaggio, che tradiscono la natura old-gen di un comparto tecnico incapace di competere con ciò che offre il mercato in questo momento.

Pour un cinquième volet, Sniper Elite 5 est toujours aussi jubilatoire. De par son gameplay directement fun à tous les instants tout en proposant des niveaux toujours ouverts et pétris de possibilités immenses, Rebellion a consolidé sa formule, qui fonctionne toujours du feu de dieu. En revanche, le soft s’est quand même reposé un peu trop sur ses lauriers en proposant un recyclage honteux sur plus de la moitié des niveaux, une répétitivité sans nom sur le gameplay comme les objectifs de missions, mais aussi une IA et un système de personnalisation des armes qui aurait mérité mieux. Ceci dit, la plupart des nouveautés incluses n’en restent pas moins plaisantes, et le bébé de Rebellion se dote d’un contenu suffisamment intéressant dont le mode multi, survie et invasion pour nous tenir en haleine. Evidemment, il serait aussi temps pour le soft de s’offrir un nouveau moteur graphique car ce dernier reste archaïque au possible, mais sachez qu’en globalité, Sniper Elite 5 vous fera passer un bon moment, même si la production de Rebellion commence à un peu trop régresser dans sa formule.

Sniper Elite 5 has some fun sniping action, but there are so many barriers separating the player from that, including poor stealth, a yawn-inducing protagonist, and a half-baked PVP system. There are points of fun separated by long stretches of slog, which is a difficult experience to recommend to anyone outside of series fans. If you are really passionate about World War II shooters, are a dedicated Sniper Elite fan, or just really need to shatter some vertebrae with bullets, this could be worth a look. For everyone else, it’s probably better to set your sights elsewhere.

Sniper Elite 5 supone un refinamiento más de una fórmula a la cual hay cada vez menos que añadir y que modificar. Aún así, Rebellion ha logrado sacarse de la manga un buen puñado de niveles en los que destacan algunos por su vastedad y libertad. No siempre logra sacarles el máximo partido porque, al fin y al cabo, nuestras herramientas y habilidades son algo limitadas, lo que me hace pensar que Rebellion sería capaz de brillar aún más con una nueva saga que se beneficie de todo lo aprendido hasta el momento. Para los que busquen más Sniper Elite, es exactamente lo que van a encontrar, con un apartado visual cuidado y las siempre espectaculares Kill Cams mejoradas para la ocasión, aunque hay algunas características que siguen dando guerra, como una inteligencia artificial bastante pobre.

Certainement l'épisode le moins innovant de la série, Sniper Elite 5 reste pourtant agréable à parcourir car on se retrouve avec tout ce qui fait la force de la franchise. Espérons que Rebellion saura retenir les leçons d'une certaine fénéantise ressentie lors de l'aventure et partir vers de nouveaux objectifs plus ambitieux pour les prochains opus à venir. Le roi se doit de le rester et va devoir s'arracher pour nous proposer quelques chose de spécial pour un futur sixième épisode.
