Dragon Quest Wars may not offer the kind of epically lengthy role-playing experience that most gamers would commonly associate with its brand, but what it does offer is superb. This small, focused strategy design is like a slime-infused reimagining of the game of chess, and has just as much depth and variety as that classic board game -- or maybe more, since chess never let you determine your own lineup. And if you weren't sold before this point, it's important to note before we close that there's a good reason this grid-based strategy concept feels so at home here -- it was developed by Intelligent Systems, the same Nintendo house responsible for the Fire Emblem and Advance Wars series.
DSiWare, as an overall service, hasn't had an extraordinary debut this year -- but it's games like this that prove its potential. If you're at all a fan of chess, or Dragon Quest, or strategy gaming at all, spend the priced-right amount of five bucks and grab this new virtual board game. It's chess with slimes, and it'll keep your attention in check for a long time to come.

Dragon Quest Wars è uno strategico che offre poche e semplici elementi di gameplay. Di sicuro agli appassionati del genere, soprattutto ai giocatori più esigenti, il titolo può risultare troppo povero di contenuti. Ma Dragon Quest Wars fa proprio della sua immediatezza il suo punto di forza, nel creare un gameplay veloce e leggero, adatto soprattutto a sessioni multigiocatore, che Wars offre abbondantemente sia in locale che online. Un piccolo strategico consigliato agli amanti delle partite estemporanee, soprattutto poi se si è fan del mondo di Dragon Quest.

Disponible uniquement par le biais du DSiWare, Dragon Quest Wars renferme un potentiel ludique et stratégique indéniable. Mais encore faut-il passer outre les contraintes de gameplay tactile qu'il nous impose, ainsi que son rythme un peu lent et ses limitations de contenu. Une bonne pioche tout de même si vous appréciez les affrontements tactiques au tour par tour.
