CYGNI All Guns Blazing non è il classico "shmup" ma, al netto di un impianto visivo convincente e di alcune idee di gameplay riuscite, si tratta di un prodotto che difficilmente diventerà il nuovo punto di riferimento per i puristi del genere e farà altrettanta fatica a coinvolgere quella fetta di pubblico non abituata agli sparatutto a scorrimento verticale, a causa di menu intricati e di un livello di difficoltà mal calibrato e poco personalizzabile. In ogni caso, è arrivata come un fulmine a ciel sereno la notizia dell’approdo del gioco in forma gratuita su Epic Games Store per un periodo di tempo limitato, così da permettere ai curiosi di aggiungerlo alla loro collezione e dargli un’opportunità a prescindere.

Avec Bô : Path of the Teal Lotus, les thaïlandais de Squid Shock Studios délivrent un premier Metroidvania vraiment convaincant. S’il reste des axes d’amélioration qui l’empêchent de pleinement briller, le soft se montre aussi solide et fiable que les bambous parsemant ce charmant univers. Dommage que les imprécisions de gameplay et le level design trop convenu ternissent la magie. Davantage orienté plateforme qu’action, derrière sa douceur apparente la fleur céleste cache une irritante expérience à ne surtout pas prendre à la légère.

Davvero una bella sorpresa Cygni: All Guns Blazing, un riuscito mix di shoot-‘em-up e twin-stick-shooter che può vantare un solido comparto audiovisivo, un gameplay ricco di sfumature (pur nei limiti del genere) e una difficoltà sì elevata (e bisognosa di qualche aggiustamento) ma lontana da certi parossismi degli shooter bullet-hell più sfrenati. C’è anche il co-op in locale e la modalità Facile aiuta a entrare nello spirito del gioco con la giusta gradualità, rendendo Cygni: All Guns Blazing un’esperienza adatta anche ai meno avvezzi al genere.

CYGNI: All Guns Blazing è una bella sorpresa, un lampo di luce nel buio di un mercato fin troppo addomesticato e al contempo l'omaggio appassionato di un piccolo team scozzese all'epoca gloriosa e tutta giapponese degli sparatutto in stile bullet hell. Fedele a queste prerogative eppure in grado di introdurre alcuni interessanti elementi di novità, il gioco si completa in fretta ma solo se lo approcciate in maniera distratta e superficiale: chi vuole investire impegno ed energie ne avrà per diversi giorni.

Volgarr the Viking 2 is not a bad game, but it is one that feels at odds with itself. It’s built on a foundation of encouraging you to master the very precise and careful spacing in both its combat and platforming, which starts out quite compelling… but once you use six continues, you’re locked into a mode that throws all of the precision out the window as you become impervious to all damage. And even if it didn’t eventually trivialize itself with the Zombie Volgarr mode, the levels themselves are too long to be suited for that kind of incremental mastery unless you have the patience of a saint or the skill of a speedrunner. Even as someone who generally loves hard-as-nails games, Volgarr the Viking 2 disappointingly crosses the line from satisfying challenge to unfair frustration too often to recommend it.

Creatures of Ava è un gioco ambizioso, che vuole fare e raccontare tanto, ma fallisce proprio nel principale dei suoi compiti: intrattenere. Perché puoi avere anche la migliore delle storie, sostenuta dalla migliore delle idee, ma se, poi, il risultato non è in grado di tenere il giocatore legato allo schermo fino alla fine del gioco, qualcosa nel modo in cui hai veicolato la tua opera è andato storto. E il gioco sviluppato da Inverge Studios pecca proprio di questo: di presa. Manca un equilibrio tra la presa che ha la narrazione e quella che ha il giocato. Un'occasione sfiorata, perché da dire c'era tanto ed erano anche argomenti molto importanti. Ma a questo mondo manca vita e spessore e, per una volta, la non violenza non ha ripagato, se non unicamente a livello morale.

Though hampered by some feature bloat and minor technical issues, Creatures of Ava is a beautiful game about empathy and understanding. The animals are adorable, the characters are fun, and the sound design is top-notch! Yes, you can pet almost everything.

Creatures of Ava is what you get when you simply dump a bunch of ideas into a bucket. The mechanics feel disconnected, the story is rote and uninteresting, and the world, while very pretty, looks generic for sci-fi. It’s all been done before and better elsewhere, and sadly the game doesn’t take the chance to connect anything together or really explore anything in depth.

Creatures of Ava is a wonderful adventure that wraps together an interesting story about humankind's view of nature, exploration of a beautiful alien world, and interesting creature taming mechanics. While I'd wish to continue exploring this game a major detriment is how you get locked out of half the game as you play through it. (Review Policy)
