Final Fantasy XVI è un ottimo punto di ripartenza per la saga di Square Enix, che dopo diversi passi falsi sembra avere trovato il giusto equilibrio fra la tradizione del franchise e una nuova etica sfacciatamente più matura. Puntando tutto su una narrazione complessa e destinando una cura maniacale alla costruzione del mondo, il dream team di Yoshida ha però trascurato il ritmo del racconto, che oltre a riservare qualche momento meno ispirato rallenta persino la crescita del personaggio. La necessità di affrontare gli altri Eikon in punti prestabiliti e avanzati della campagna fa sì che il sistema di combattimento e l’evoluzione di Clive esplodano realmente a distanza di circa 20 ore dall’inizio della vicenda. Ciononostante, i frenetici scontri firmati da Ryota Suzuki, la possibilità di elaborare delle build così personali e non per ultime le spettacolari dispute fra invocazioni colossali si amalgamo perfettamente, incentivando il giocatore a studiare strategie sempre nuove e vicine al proprio approccio alla lotta. Con un ritmo più sostenuto, una componente ruolistica più marcata e un sistema di crafting più rilevante nell’economia del gameplay, la sedicesima fantasia finale avrebbe potuto ambire all’eccellenza. Quello di Yoshida e i suoi rimane comunque un titolo magnetico e titanico, nonché una tappa essenziale della promettente rinascita del brand.

Pikmin 1 remains a delightful puzzle adventure that sees Nintendo at its most charming and inventive. Yes, this Switch port is a little bit underwhelming, with just a higher resolution and some new controls to get excited about, but with a core game this good, it's still an experience that comes highly recommended. Over two decades on from its original release, Pikmin's unique brand of magic remains undiminished.

Energy management decisions help deliver enough strategic depth to Tour de France 2023’s chase for the yellow jersey. But the game’s unsophisticated physics modeling and middling aesthetics do little to elevate the sense of simulation. That said, there’s masochistic enjoyment to be had in the game’s reproduction of 150+ kilometer stages- where a single bad decision can ruin an hour of focused effort.

Final Fantasy XVI will change what we think of the franchise moving forward. It’s groundbreaking on so many levels, elevating the thirty-five-year old series to new heights. The combat is highly engaging and invites creativity and experimentation by giving players a bevy of tools to play around with. The story is beautifully written, and although it takes nods from other fantasy properties, it builds its own unique universe to immerse one in. The presentation is also spectacular, marrying both visuals and audio in an orchestra of splendor. While there’s downtime in between the major story beats, players will still be on the edge of their seat throughout this lengthy adventure. This is a bold new direction for the franchise we wholeheartedly endorse, as while it doesn’t have the same charm as older titles, Square Enix have created something truly special. Final Fantasy XVI is the most captivating and cinematic Final Fantasy ever released, and will stick with us for generations to come.

POST VOID A quasi due anni e mezzo dalla originaria release per PC, lo psichedelico POST VOID esordisce finalmente su PlayStation 4 e Nintendo Switch. Una conversione accurata che permette di godere dell'adrenalinico gameplay della produzione YCJY Games, a metà strada tra FPS arcade e roguelike. Un titolo ipnotico, che spinge il giocatore in un loop fatto di violenza e velocità, alla ricerca del punteggio perfetto nel tempo più basso. Un piccolo cult della scena indipendente, che tuttavia deve fare i conti con una formula ludica molto ortodossa che potrebbe non incontrare i favori del grande pubblico (e forse scontentare anche parte del target di riferimento). POST VOID è un trip che, a piccole dosi, saprà regalarvi un'odissea breve ma travolgente.
