Scars Above Scars Above di Mad Head Games è un titolo che vuole impersonare tutte le capacità, i desideri, e le speranze di un team che ha voglia di cambiare. Il paradosso che scaturisce da questa produzione risiede nell’intelligenza del team serbo di non rischiare nulla, e usare le disavventure della squadra Scars per creare un titolo difficile da odiare, ma anche difficile da non ritenere superfluo. Il lavoro svolto non appare infimo come in altre produzioni, e quel poco che manca di polishing pad viene compensato da una discreta direzione artistica e un sistema di gameplay funzionale, e a più battute divertente. I problemi non sono certo di poco conto, e finiscono per minare la breve esperienza complessiva, di cui la rigiocabilità è un altro fattore non pervenuto. Scars Above per i giocatori può essere visto con un discreto esponente del genere TPS con deriva rougelite, forse primo capitolo acerbo di una nuova IP, o forse semplice esperimento di una Software House nella marea di titoli che, come altri, faticano a ritagliarsi una reale identità nel mercato videoludico odierno. Despite a tedious beginning and many generic traits, Scars Above comes alive near the end with decent third-person shooting set in an intriguing alien world that is oddly familiar in more ways than one.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen was the evolution Destiny 2 needed with its great story, revamped campaign structure and enough interesting activities to keep players excited. Destiny 2: Lightfall only had to follow that template and continue building toward the ultimate conclusion of this saga. It doesn’t, delivering a threadbare story and a dangerously-low amount of new content for its cost. The story is incoherent and nonsensically jumps back and forth between different plot threads. The campaign does at least provide a handful of great missions and an excellent Strike to play through, and it’s all helped by the fact that Strand is a brilliant subclass that spices up the gameplay. Destiny 2: Lightfall’s biggest problem, however, is that for $50-$100, it provides little new or exciting content. One Strike, no Crucible maps, no Gambit maps, the same patrol zone design and the same enemies. Strand is fabulous, some of the campaign missions are truly masterful, and the game remains genuinely fun, but these can’t offset Destiny 2: Lightfall’s shortcomings. Destiny 2: Lightfall is just another filler expansion on the pathway to the final showdown.

Mato Anomalies ist ein interessantes JRPG mit vielen guten Ideen. In der Umsetzung scheitern diese daran, dass die Abwechslung der unterschiedlichen Spielelemente nicht reicht, damit die rund 20 Stunden nicht monoton wirken. Natürlich ist eine schlechte Lokalisierung und die mangelnde Leistungsfähigkeit auf der Switch besonders ärgerlich. Aber selbst auf Englisch und auf der PlayStation 5 wirkt Mato Anomalies nicht wirklich zeitgemäß und erreicht eben nur Mittelmaß — sowohl unter JRPGs als auch unter Visual Novels oder Detektivspielen. Besonders positiv möchte ich aber die einzigartige Atmosphäre hervorheben, die durch das Design und das wirklich gelungene Kampfsystem geschaffen wird. JRPG-Fans können einen Blick darauf werfen, wenn sie ein wenig Frische und neue Ideen im Genre vermissen. Von der Switch-Version solltet ihr leider in jedem Fall die Finger lassen.

Mato Anomalies non è un brutto gioco: gli amanti di alcune meccaniche specifiche (combattimenti a turni, investigazione tramite minigiochi) o di contesti particolari (retrofuturismo, distopia capitalistica) probabilmente riusciranno a divertircisi per un buon numero di ore. Tuttavia gli sviluppatori hanno voluto tentare troppe vie, chiudendone pochissime con risultati più che accettabili. La struttura bipartita nella narrazione e nel gameplay è interessante, ma le singole parti prese in sé appaiono banali in quasi ogni aspetto: meccaniche semplicistiche, ambientazione limitata, progressione guidata e scontata. Resta la voglia di sapere dove andrà a parare la trama, di approfondire la psiche dei protagonisti - loro sì interessanti e discretamente caratterizzati -, resta il fascino di un mondo sfaccettato, ricco di luci e di ombre capaci di trasformarsi rapidamente le une nelle altre. Complessivamente, tuttavia, si tratta di un'esperienza ludicamente poco efficace e proposta, tra l'altro, a un prezzo consistente. Valutate.

With its engaging story, charming cast of characters, and solid RPG mechanics, Mato Anomalies is a game that all role-playing game fans will enjoy, especially fans of the Persona series, by which the game is greatly influenced. Lack of innovation, dull turn-based combat and a wonky English localization impact the experience, but not enough to make it unworthy of a look from fans of the genre.

Fatal Frame Mask of the Lunar Eclipse si conferma troppo conservativo, caratterizzato da ritmi di gioco lenti e anacronistici. È pur vero, in ogni caso, che da una rimasterizzazione prettamente estetica non era lecito attendersi cambiamenti strutturali. Di sicuro, i fan storici apprezzeranno moltissimo la grafica migliorata, l’illuminazione più realistica, i controlli adattati a un pad tradizionale e il comparto costumi alternativi. Invece, chi non ha mai provato un Fatal Frame digerirà a fatica un impianto ludico visibilmente datato.

Timide, tel est le terme qui nous permettrait de qualifier la nouvelle production de BedTime Digital Games. Toujours aussi magnifiquement orchestrée et avec des idées de direction artistique collant réellement aux thèmes employés, cette suite bénéficie d’un regain de mise en scène bienvenu, renforcé par un sentiment global de montée en gamme intéressante et salvatrice. Malheureusement, on ne pourra pas passer à côté d’une redite, d’un sentiment d’opus 1.5, sans réelle nouveauté de gameplay hormis quelques mouvements modifiés pour nos personnages et un sentiment de non-satiété en ce qui concerne les énigmes, mises au second plan par rapport aux combats durant une grosse moitié de l’aventure. Reste la possibilité de travailler en binôme à deux manettes pour inclure les plus jeunes joueurs, mais un gameplay complètement asymétrique aurait pu avoir davantage d’impact. Mention honorable pour la production sonore globale, toujours aussi efficace, bien que l’on regrettera des combats de boss moins extravagants et exigeants dans l’ensemble.
