Life is Strange: Double Exposure è un titolo che parla ai fan della serie, specialmente a quelli del primo capitolo. Deck Nine ha deciso di puntare molto sull’effetto romantico e nostalgico, con risultati altalenanti. La scrittura, per quanto comunque interessante, si è smarrita più volte e il gameplay è appesantito, non poco, dai nuovi poteri della protagonista. Sarò sincero: forse mi aspettavo qualcosina in più, ma devo ammettere che è stato bello tornare nei panni di Max e, nel complesso, è stato un bel viaggio che, chiaramente, non finisce qui.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure vive inevitabilmente all'ombra del primo capitolo e porta con sé i limiti di un genere, quello dell'avventura narrativa, che rischia di perdere efficacia senza evolversi. Sebbene tocchi momenti di grande intensità e regali dei forti attimi nostalgici, manca della forza e della dirompenza del gioco originale, cui si collega come diretto seguito. Le sue dinamiche evocano ricordi che scaldano il cuore, ma spesso sembrano dei déjà-vu con i quali la serie non può più vivere in eterno. Se vuole continuare, e il finale lo fa intuire, Life is Strange dovrà uscire da questa zona di sicurezza e cambiare registro, perché non potrà più solo appoggiarsi sulle solide basi della prima, iconica avventura di Max e Chloe.

Life is Strange: Double Exposure conferma le nostre idee dopo aver giocato i primi due episodi. La storia è incalzante e intrigante, i personaggi ben scritti e tutto funziona a meraviglia. L'esplorazione dei primi due episodi cede il passo alla protagonista, la trama, e sul finale si perde quella libertà in favore di un climax che giunge al compimento proprio con l'epilogo del gioco. La scelta di riprendere Max frutta, non perché la strada vecchia è migliore, ma perché sembra che ci fosse ancora da raccontare per la giovane fotografa. A concludere, Life is Strange: Double Exposure è anche l'elevarsi da un semplice stilema di scelta multipla verso qualcosa di più complesso: le decisioni prese non portano sempre ad un finale prestabilito, visto che le storie che i videogiochi raccontano non devono essere limitate ad un codice binario, ma possono ambire a molto di più, e questo nuovo capitolo ne è la prova.

When Life Is Strange: Double Exposure focuses on telling a personal story about trauma and regret it soars. When it focuses on being a teaser for future entries with its supernatural spectacle, it unravels. This balancing act unfortunately causes the latter to cannibalize some strengths from the former. Still, Max’s characterization and emotional journey remain the prominent highlight, offering a heartfelt and bittersweet thematic throughline at how the wounds of past guilt and grief scab over time. For the game to win me over despite my initial skepticism, that’s a pretty strong achievement, flaws and all.

Cosa rimane da dire su Dragon Age: The Veilguard che non abbiamo già evidenziato e spiegato con dovizia di particolari in questa lunghissima recensione? La nuova epopea di BioWare è un enorme, stratificato, gigantesco, spesso bulimico mischione di robe diverse che tenta disperatamente di offrire tantissimo, di essere appetibile per qualsiasi amante dei giochi di ruolo, ma così facendo non riesce davvero a spiccare in nulla. Vogliamo però che una cosa sia ben chiara: alla fine l'esperienza è anche piacevole, decisamente al di sopra delle aspettative che ci eravamo fatti in questi mesi di annunci e trailer, ma non c'è davvero nulla capace di catturare il giocatore e di elevare il titolo al livello dei pesi massimi del genere. Ed è un gran peccato perché la dedizione del team di sviluppo traspare in moltissimi elementi come la sua profondità strutturale, il level design, i dialoghi corali, finanche un sistema di combattimento che, in fin dei conti, riesce anche a divertire, ma non abbastanza. Mai come in questo caso, sarebbe stato meglio togliere, togliere e ancora togliere, per offrire un'esperienza più a fuoco e meglio caratterizzata.

Difficile de ne pas être séduit par Ys X Nordics malgré une technique qui n'est pas forcément aux standards de 2024. L’histoire proposée maintient notre intérêt, on enchaîne les heures à parcourir ce monde généreux avec un gameplay complet et des mécaniques intéressantes bien intégrées à la formule historique. On retrouve la base Ys sur de nombreux aspects, mais Nordics apporte suffisamment de nouveautés et de modifications pour fédérer manette en main. Adepte du JRPG et amoureux du format à l’ancienne plus linéaire et au rythme soutenu, Ys X Nordics m’a conquis et me laissera de très bons souvenirs.

There’s a lot to talk about with Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered. The wild world, the funny writing, the varied and tense gameplay, the rockin’ soundtrack, the silly characters, the serious moments, or the awesome sense of progression, just to name a few enjoyable things. It only took me about 8 hours to finish the game and most of that was in one sitting. I have only played Shadows of the Damned once at PAX East 2024 earlier this year and it was such a great demo, the full game delivered all of that and more. Add in the New Game Plus feature that lets you keep your late game upgrades or the optional gyro aiming, and you have an incredibly arcade-y experience that keeps you laughing and blasting for hours. The game launches on October 31st and I can’t recommend it enough. This is a punk rock gem that everyone can love.

An excellent string of missions that offer variety and flexibility come together to make the best Call of Duty campaign in many, many years. Black Ops 6 is a fantastic return to form for the series, allowing the designers at Raven to delve deep into their bag of tricks and keep you guessing at every turn. It successfully makes each chapter distinct from one another, whilst maintaining a strong level of quality across the board. Packing a thoroughly engaging story that gets better the longer it goes on, it exceeds expectations regarding level design and creativity, showing that when given the time to craft them properly, CoD campaigns still have what it takes to be up there with the best first-person shooters.

Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered è un piccolo lumino in un buio totale: il gioco di Suda51 ci ricorda quanto erano belle le perle del passato, quanto fosse giusto sperimentare e quanto non c'erano orpelli e stupide mappe immense senza significato. In passato si andava da punto A a punto B divertendosi nel mentre e godendosi la strada del viaggio. Il gioco non sarà perfetto, per carità, ma ha i suoi lati positivi che non sono offuscati minimamente da quelli negativi. Interessanti i miglioramenti, sebbene resti graficamente datato e manca totalmente (come sull'originale) il doppiaggio italiano, che lo ammettiamo, sarebbe stata una chicca non da poco.

Call Of Duty Black Ops 6 signe le retour d’une des séries phares de la licence au premier plan, et Treyarch délivre un épisode qui arrive à nous faire vibrer et rager en quelques minutes d’intervalle. On tient l’une des campagnes les plus solides depuis pas mal d’années, avec un zombie qui cumule retour aux sources et ajout de nouveautés satisfaisant. Le multijoueur, fer de lance de la série, est séduisant sur le papier, mais le fait de retrouver les problèmes annuels habituels dès le lancement du jeu gâche un peu la fête. On sait que ce sera corrigé, comme à chaque fois, après quelques patchs, mais on aimerait avoir une expérience propre d’office et ne pas avoir à attendre. Dans l’ensemble, CoD BO 6 reste un bon opus, mais il aurait pu franchir un cap sans difficulté avec un peu plus de soin.
