Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam is a wonderful mashup of two already great series. The visuals aren’t all that impressive, even for the 3DS, but the gameplay is classic Mario RPG stuff. Fans of either series will like how these two come together in the story department, with a truly enjoyable script that will have players laughing throughout. Not much has been done to alter the gameplay necessarily, but it’s still the same great mix of turn-based combat, and real-time reactions.

Fat Princess Adventures is a sequel/spinoff that takes one step forward and two steps back. Moving to the PS4 brought all the usual enhancements to visuals, but the core gameplay was pulled back a bit, making for a more repetitive affair. The transition from PvP multiplayer to a more adventure style game has removed a lot of what made the original so much fun in the first place, and set players up for a game that is moderately enjoyable, but overall pretty lackluster.

In a nutshell, Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair is a repetitive shooter that is unlikely to appeal to anyone outside of the core fan base of the series. The game has horrible graphics and the gameplay gets old after one hour.

The Wii U already has one of the best racers of this generation and now it has yet another with FAST Racing Neo. Taking notes from other futuristic racers, the gameplay is rather simple, while still feeling unique with the phase system. Though the steep difficulty may make it less accessible to some gamers, FAST Racing Neo looks fantastic and performs very well in action, making this one game to not let race past you.

Xenoblade Chronicles X embraces the gigantic world found within it and provides gamers with not only beautiful environments, but uniquely designed creatures that inhabit them. The combat feels familiar in some ways, while also providing many nuances that set it part from its spiritual predecessors. The Wii U may be nearing its life cycle, but it certainly still has a little gas in it with yet another gem in Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Beautiful but lacking, Star Wars: Battlefront will most certainly please Star Wars fans with incredible fan service from DICE. While it stacks up in terms of presentation to other contemporary shooters, Battlefront is an extraordinarily thin offering when it comes to content, making it less enjoyable the more you play it.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is absolutely stuffed to the brim with content on all fronts, and nearly none of it feels like filler. Changes to single player and the addition of new cooperative modes make the campaign feel like less of an afterthought than it has in recent years, and gives players plenty of reasons to come back and play it again. Treyarch stays at the head of the class with Black Ops 3 competitive multiplayer and zombies modes as well. While three years has given us some time to possibly forget how masterfully crafted Black Ops 2 was, Black Ops 3 is both the biggest and best Call of Duty game we’ve seen since then.

If you’re willing to put up with some technical issues, Fallout 4 is Bethesda’s most ambitious RPG to date. They give players better reasons than ever to go out into the Wasteland, explore, get lost, horde items, and make new ones. It would have been nice to see the many new features of Fallout 4 more deeply integrated into the story, as some of it feels a little half-baked, under-explained, and completely up to the player to make sense of. While it may be incredibly familiar territory, Fallout 4 is certainly a new high bar for the series when it comes to scope and scale of this adventure.

Overall, WWE 2K16 is an adequate follow-up to the highly disappointing WWE 2K15. The game packs a ton of content as there are well over 120 wrestlers for you to play and several more features have been added back. That said, it still has a long way to go to reach the heights of ‘Here Comes The Pain’ or ‘WWF No Mercy’. Still, this should satisfy hardcore WWE fans until next year’s game comes around.

The series’ signature horror themes are ever present here, but the clashing character design choices and other questionable decisions keep Corpse Party: Blood Drive from being an entirely bloody good time.

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate is about what we’ve come to expect from the annual franchise. Ubisoft Quebec has built a beautiful new world to explore but relies on many of the same ideas from previous games to keep players interested. Fans of the series will certainly have plenty to sink their teeth into in terms of side missions, as well as another meaty Assassins vs. Templars main storyline. The additions to the game like the grappling hook, Dual-Assassin’s, and Gang Wars missions are certainly welcome and fit the time period perfectly. Syndicate is more Assassin’s Creed for better or worse.

Disney Infinity 3.0 takes an already solid foundation, laid by the two previous entries in the series, and effectively infuses the rich history of Star Wars throughout the game. The cost of entry may be high for the full experience, but the Star Wars based gameplay transcends what you usually expect from a Disney Infinity game, with the Toy Box continuing to be a hub for creativity to thrive in Disney Infinity 3.0.

Saint Seiya: Soldiers’ Souls packs tons of content that is sure to keep hardcore fans occupied for hours on end. However, the fast style of fighting gameplay may not be accessible for everyone. Not to mention not every character is effective in the game and the story is hard to follow for newbies to the franchise. Still, fighting game fans will find a lot of entertainment value here.

Platinum Games’ take on Transformers is an interesting and welcome change of pace for the property. The developer’s brand of polished, fast-paced, flowing combat feels right at home in the Transformers universe. For fans of the original cartoon series, this is a can’t miss title even if its beauty is only skin-deep.
