So, Silpheed is a classic case of style over substance, but that doesn't mean it should simply be written of as a gimmick. It is one of the original pioneers of "2.5D" gaming, an influential classic, and a technical marvel, and the fact that it may or may not be a particularly good shooter seems almost incidental. Its flaws weren't important then, and they might be even less important now. We should remember Silpheed for what it was.

1942: Joint Strike is the kind of game that will have you very excited for about an hour. It looks great, it's accessible, and it's fun. But come back on day two or day three and you'll probably be eyeing other games on your hard drive to play. There's very little content here -- and certainly not $10 worth of content.

When you shave NCAA Football 09 All-Play down to its roots, you really realize just how much this year’s effort is a no-brainer to avoid from any perspective. For multi-console owners, last year’s PS2 experience has more to offer than this, while this year’s 360 and PS3 versions are a great investment. If you’re Wii- only, Madden 07 and 08 are both great options (08 including a bit more, online, but some odd bugs), with a little more patience getting you a simply awesome experience with Madden 09. With things like multiplayer mini-games removed, no online, no create-a-player, no create-a-team, a shaved down (last year’s) Dynasty Mode, Shrine, or Campus Legend modes. This is less a full NCAA game, and more a demo of possible years to come. We want NCAA on Wii – just like we want NHL on Wii – but we don’t want it until it can be done right, and this year wasn’t it. Madden 09 destroys NCAA 09 on Wii, and any self-respecting football fan will avoid this year’s college effort like a 4th and long situation. Send EA a message, and skip this one.

I've made it pretty clear that I think Camelot made a mistake by ignoring true one-to-one swing mechanics in favor of a more traditional Mario Golf-style control scheme. And I think We Love Golf! is as a result a little easier than it should be. But the strange thing is, it's still a really good game of golf that's fun because the controls do exactly what they're supposed to and because the pace is so fast. Therefore, if you like games like Mario Golf and Hot Shots, you will undoubtedly like Camelot's latest effort, too. That all being said, if you want a true golf sim or a control scheme that endeavors to mimic a real golf swing, Tiger Woods is your answer.

Go! Go! Break Steady is a fun experiment in merging two genres that would seem to have nothing in common. It's like putting a walrus in your peanut butter. And yet, the results aren't half bad. If you can stomach the urban façade, there's a good game to be downloaded. It may not keep you satisfied for long (and can't hold a candle to Puzzle Quest or Zuma), it will probably have you hooked for a little while.

Just because a game is aimed at little girls doesn't mean it has to be mindlessly boring. Riding Star lets you train and manage horses, sure, but actually doing so is filled with tedium and repetition. Again, I realize I'm not the target demo here, but I find it tough to imagine that anyone old enough to actually comprehend the tutorial would enjoy it beyond those introductory segments.

College football is about atmosphere, and NCAA Football 09 manages to capture this environment handily thanks to items like school chants and cheerleader stunts. The improvement of jukes and ballcarrier moves adds depth to your offense, while the inclusion of features like the Quarterback Quiz and Icing the Kicker makes the overall gameplay stronger. The Online Dynasty is an excellent addition to this series, but the mistakes made with the Campus Legend mode keeps this year's title from being truly extraordinary.

Perhaps the best thing that we can say about Destinations is that it finally starts to make SimCity Societies feel worthy of the SimCity name. By including a gameplay mechanic that forces players to strike a balance between the amount they invest in attracting travelers and the payoffs those travelers generate, it actually feels like there's a compelling game here. Unfortunately, the overall concept of Societies still fails to excite much interest around here and that's probably not something that can be fixed with patches and expansions. EA is sweetening the deal by offering this expansion only as part of the forty-dollar SimCity Box. It's not worth it if you just want Societies and Destinations, but if you're getting it for SimCity 4, Destinations is worth at least a look.

Zoo Hospital on the Wii is a marked improvement on the previous DS title. The animals, while limited in their animations, look great. The medical procedures are varied and engaging enough to be fun, and the game even manages to sneak in some education. It's a shame that the story line is so short, since much of the appeal is based around opening new enclosures and getting new animals. For a veterinary sim, Zoo Hospital is definitely one of the more interesting ones, but it's also a game that will check out as soon as the operation is finished.

Golf: Tee It Up is a perfect fit for Xbox Live Arcade and does what it needs to do to earn a spot in your library. It may not be as varied or as crazy as some might have liked, but the two courses and smack talk that can come out of the action that transpires is great fun for all involved.

Wonderworld Amusement Park has no personality; no soul. There's nothing on offer here that other Wii mini-game collections haven't already beaten to death. What's worse, many of these games are frustrating or have unresponsive controls. The ugly art design is the icing on this garbage cake. You're better off trying your luck with the 30-year old rides and sketchy operators at a real amusement park.

Code Lyoko fans: if you're tragically desperate to play a Code Lyoko game, I suppose you could rent this one, but I wouldn't recommend it. This title just can't overcome its many mechanical problems and the overall experience isn't satisfying.

Schizoid is a clever, captivating and fun Arcade game with great production values and some innovative ideas. The co-op mode is lengthy and challenging, but wears on after a bit, while the mind-bending Uberschizoid mode is cruelly clever with a sharp learning curve that may be a turn-off for some. It’s a solid download if you’re up for something new, especially if you enjoy arcade co-op action.

Old dogs can learn new tricks, and in the case of Wall-E, the PC version of the game is one of the most solid film to game adaptations we've seen in a while. Not only is there a lot to do within this action title, it's engaging and varied with its action, making play a lot of fun. If you have a Wall-E fan in your house, check this game out.

This is as bad as it gets. SPOGS Racing is ugly, boring, and sports some of the worst racing AI ever. It's an absolute joke that D2C is charging money for this. SPOGS looks like someone's first go at homebrew developing. There is no excuse for this to be on WiiWare, standing alongside the likes of LostWinds and Final Fantasy: My Life as a King. There are much better racers (even better budget racers) on the Wii.
