As I said previously, the biggest problem that most will have with Vegas 2 is that it doesn’t differentiate itself enough from the first. It doesn’t feel like an expansion pack exactly--it’s more than that--but it doesn’t feel like a full-fledged sequel either. For those who haven’t taken a stroll down the streets of Sin City than you needn’t look any further than Rainbow Six Vegas 2, but those looking for a sequel that surpasses the original in everyway imaginable will be disappointed.

In theory, there's nothing wrong with the idea of a whimsical tennis game featuring classic SEGA characters. In practice, it's a bit of a yawn that ends up feeling like a barely good enough cash-in. The environments and characters are largely well-done, but the control scheme and dull mini-games drag SEGA Superstars Tennis down.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 on PS2 is a very impressive soccer game, mainly because it mimics the current-gen versions so well. While it would have been nice to see a few specialized PS2 modes (a guy can dream), the fact that we can play through years in Master League with a created player and watch him develop is cool enough. Considering this is likely the last time we’ll see the series on PS2, PES 2008 isn’t a bad way to go out.

Perhaps Mario Tennis on the Game Boy Advance has spoiled us. We appreciate all the little nods to past SEGA titles, but these little things aren't really tied into the core tennis experience. As solid a tennis game SEGA Superstars Tennis ended up on the Nintendo DS, it feels far more hollow than a celebratory "Yay us!" game should be.

In an effort to establish some context, I think it's important to note that I love both Mario Tennis and Virtua Tennis – and for two entirely different reasons. Mario Tennis for its colorful presentation and speedy, responsive controls and Virtua Tennis for its realistic visuals and deep controls, not to mention the strategy that's buried within. And yet, seemingly against all the odds, I don't love SEGA Superstars Tennis and this is because it teeters somewhere in the middle of the two, excelling neither at being an arcade game of tennis nor a simulation. And also because despite all of the colorful mascots featured in the game, it still feels sterile – really short on charm and charisma. Thing is, I don't hate it either. In fact, the Wii remote controls work pretty well, the selection of characters and courts is sure to please most SEGA fans, and while the volleys aren't nearly as deep or as strategic as they are in Virtua Tennis, they can still be enjoyable, particularly with multiple human players. Overall, it's a passable first entry into a potential new series that still has a lot of untapped potential.

Nintendo thought highly enough of Super Turrican that it released by itself on March 3, unaccompanied by any other additions to the Wii Shop that day. And though it's disappointing for some who'd ask for more quantity on the Virtual Console, there's no denying the quality of what we did receive. Super Turrican is a great experience, one that served to establish of firm foundation for Factor 5 as developers of home console video game software. It's a blast to play, as it expertly balances paying homage to other popular action designs with its own innovations and mechanics. And it pushed the envelope of what the Super Nintendo hardware could accomplish now over a decade and a half ago. 800 Wii Points is an easy price to pay for a game this good – and luckily, there should be more where this one came from. Super Turrican 2 is also a likely future release for the Virtual Console, as is the Genesis installment of the franchise, Mega Turrican.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 on PSP is a very impressive soccer game, mainly because it mimics the console versions so well. While it would have been nice to see a few specialized PSP mini-games, the fact that we can play through years in Master League with a created player and watch him develop is cool enough. We’ll just have to forget the fact that you can’t hop online and play your buddy across the country. Maybe next year

Barnyard Blast has a lot going for it, but unfortunately not the most important things. Hopefully the developers can take their great sense of humor and old-school roots and move this genre into new territory, rather than get stuck in the past. Retro gamers might want to stop by the barnyard, but there are already several, better classic-flavored platformers on the DS. If gaming in the past isn't your thing, you'll want to pass on the pork.

The Puyo Puyo puzzle design first came to American home consoles in two forms – as Kirby's Avalanche for the SNES, and as Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine for the Genesis. Both of those versions are available for download on the Virtual Console, and both are solid editions of the standard Puyo Puyo gameplay. But if you can handle investing an extra 100 Wii Points and don't mind the fact that this version's still completely presented in Japanese, then Puyo Puyo 2: Tsuu is a more balanced, robust and impressive offering. Kirby and Robotnik were good, but Tsuu is a bit better – and it's Tsuu's version of the Puyo design that has been utilized ever since its original release, in those more recent editions of the game that have managed to make the jump to domestic shores. Puzzle fans, give this one a look. It's the exception to the rule that all puzzler sequels are worse than their predecessors.

In the right hands, real-time strategy and the Nintendo DS could go together like chocolate and peanut butter. But these aren’t the right hands: Command and Destroy has all the makings of a good RTS, but the awful controls and the even worse save system kill the fun. Even with fixed controls the game would never have been as good as any of the classic PC games, but it certainly would be worth playing. Instead, it ends up a tremendously huge missed opportunity, a big tease to a genre that still has yet to be exploited on the Nintendo DS.

Compared to other Harvest Moon titles, this one feels like it strays pretty far away from the franchise's formula. The inconvenient truth is that while you still harvest crops, the farther into the game you go, the less important farming becomes and the more island exploration takes over. Unfortunately, the unbalanced level of exploration, slow development of the story and nonsensical character development (coupled with his virtual isolation) makes the game one of those titles that appeals to an even smaller niche of this niche genre. What's more, the limited additions to the "Special Edition" doesn’t make this one better or any more improved over the PSP version.

Pro Evolution Soccer ’08 is what every sports fan wanted from the inaugural batch of titles from a few years back. PES ’08 houses the same fluid and responsive gameplay that made Winning Eleven 9 one of the best football (American soccer) games ever made, only now it has some production values to match. The offering of modes may not have a standout or one feature that was obviously the focus of development, but it has more than enough to satiate the appetite of the many rabid football junkies of the world. For this year’s best virtual football and a return to form for one of the staples of our industry, look no further than Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. It won’t disappoint.

Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection was made for pinball wizards: it's a fantastic fan service of the game's recent past that puts excellent attention to the detail of the genre. It's always better to play the real machine than virtual representations of them, but this collection is a great alternative at a solid value. And these pinball machines will never wear out on you.
