There's nothing wrong with Brave Story. It's a solid RPG that's sure to appeal to fans who want a fun yet simple romp through the genre they love. However, Brave Story lacks the ingenuity to make it something I'd play for hours on end. After a set of the exact same events -- random battles, dungeon, random battles, boss -- I was rolling my eyes and ready to power down the PSP. Even the inclusion of being able to capture birds and make them fight didn't best the urge to take a break.

While Juiced: Eliminator's driving mechanics and track design are rather so-so and somewhat boring, its career mode setup and aspects are great, making the actual driving itself quite worthwhile. If you're not into modding vehicles whatsoever and couldn't care less about interacting with other drivers (albeit on an almost hands-off level), then this isn't the game for you. But if you want a compelling and rather open career mode that'll let you focus on whatever aspects of racing that you'd like, give Juiced: Eliminator a good look.

Micro Machines V4 is a surprisingly deep little racer that, while not without its problems, offers quite a decent trip down a virtual racetrack. But keep in mind, if you're a hardcore driving nut then you should probably lower the score below a good one to two points... as this game isn't really made with you in mind. Who it is made for, however, is an adolescent player who recognizes the toy line, is altogether new to gaming, or likes to keep their racing nice and simple. If that sounds like you or someone you know, then you may want to raise that score a point or two instead.

The original Micro Machines still holds up as one of the real racing classics in gaming's past, and it's the posterchild for top-down racers. The game's managed a successful run over nearly two decades, but Micro Machines V4 ends up missing a lot of opportunities to live up to the namesake, at least on the Nintendo DS. Chuggy framerates, mushy controls, laughable vehicle designs, and a scattered game progression and presentation spotlight admittedly solid and faithful gameplay and clever track designs. There's some fun in this game, but if you want to see what made Micro Machines such a strong franchise, look into its past renditions.

Though inspired, Danny Phantom doesn’t quite sit among the greats of GBA brawlers. The design is solid, obviously taken from Treasure’s Astro Boy, and as a simple action game it holds its own. Presentation does the license justice, offering the visual atmosphere of the show without dragging out the front end of the game. Action is fast and mindless, and though it is the appeal of the package, it is also the downfall. Danny Phantom is simple, shallow, though entertaining. It may not be a contender when up against some of the heavier hitters on the system, but it still manages to be entertaining while it lasts. Most of all, the game is a success because it is fun. This is a classic case of an inspired design, teamed with strong execution, offering one concise gameplay mechanic rather than pursuing multiple genres within one package. For that reason, Danny Phantom is a success, raising the licensed bar much like its design inspiration did for the genre itself.
