Ape Out is an intoxicating fusion of percussion and destruction that oozes style from every angle. Its procedurally built levels tend to blend into one another a bit but its bloody rampages are filled with nuance. Beneath the simple controls is depth that’s kept me returning for days after successfully completing the epilogue. Gorgeous and compulsive, if this ’50s-inspired, jazz-fueled jaunt is the future of gorilla warfare, the team behind Ape Out can make a monkey out of me anytime.

Mashing up unique aesthetics and gameplay doesn't always yield a perfect result, and Ape Out tries to fit together two disparate ideas without successfully navigating the challenges of such an endeavor. Too many elements just don't work at a fundamental level, making it an uneven effort at best.

Te piden que escapes, que corras sin cesar para salvar al gorila, ¡y lo haces!, pero Ape Out es tan divertido, tan frenético en su acción, que por malvado que suene, deseas que vuelvan a encerrar al pobre primate solo para "intentarlo una vez más". Así de bueno es este videojuego de acción arcade que si bien peca de falta de variedad, consigue atrapar como pocos gracias a su trepidante ritmo y su fantástica banda sonora.

Con un finale clamorosamente evocativo e catartico, e con vari, piccoli segreti in attesa di essere svelati dalla community e dai giocatori, Ape Out è già un classico del genere, per il suo straordinario stile estetico e sonoro, e per l'eccelsa qualità del suo game design.

Whilst the concept is there in the title, the intricacies of Ape Out’s are revealed the more you play. Every aspect creates a dazzling jazz mixtape that reverberates from eyes, to ears, to thumbs.  And you’re an ape. Which is great.

Ape Out es una propuesta singular, que se distingue de todo lo demás por aspectos como su estética o su banda sonora, en ambos casos de generación procedural. Un juego con una personalidad arrolladora, que se deja entrever incluso cuando morimos, en un resumen de nuestro avance. Y siempre, con cierto regusto a Hotline Miami, pero con ideas propias.

NieR:Automata remains one of the greatest games of this generation, if not of all time. And with all of the game’s content available in one complete package (for a price that’s almost half of what it would cost to buy the base game and DLC separately), there’s no excuse to not check it out now. If you’re someone who already owns the game, however, the Game of the YoRHa Edition doesn’t offer much for you to justify buying it again.

ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove is a very faithful comeback. However, outside of some lovely looking visuals, things haven’t really kept up with the times. It’s fun in short bursts, but be prepared for things to get a bit too repetitive, a bit too quickly, especially in solo play. The soundtrack, on the other hand, is as brilliant and as funky as it ever was. When all is said and done, die-hard fans of the originals will find the most value here.

Qua content is DiRT Rally 2.0 in elk geval aardig gevuld. Zeker vergeleken met regerend rallygamekampioen Richard Burns Rally, dat qua rijgedrag nog steeds nét een streepje voor heeft qua scherpte en uitdaging. Audiovisueel staat Codemasters’ nieuwste werk echter bovenop de apenrots: niet alleen dankzij de framerate van zestig beeldjes per seconde en prachtige belichting (zeker bij zonsondergang), maar ook door een uiterst sfeervol geheel. Zeer realistisch motorgebrul en een variëteit aan bijgeluiden dragen bij een geweldige beleving. Wie het geluk heeft gehad zelf wel eens in een echte rallyauto te kunnen (mee)rijden, mist alleen de geur van geconsumeerde smeermiddelen en rubber. We kunnen dan ook gerust spreken van één van de beste rallygames aller tijden. De minpunten met betrekking tot onder meer de carrièrestand zijn eigenlijk slechts kanttekeningen. Ze zorgen ervoor dat DiRT Rally 2.0 niet perfect is, maar wel iedereen met een beetje (virtuele) brandstof in zijn aderen zal aanspreken. Zeker als je dat voor het laatst overkwam met een zekere rallygame uit 2004.
