De brawler gameplay van Coffee Crisis is fun, zij het op momenten iets te frustrerend - toch brengen de retro esthetiek, de humor en de muziek brengen het geheel naar een hoger niveau. Wel moet gezegd worden dat de modifiers en dergelijke niet voldoende afwisseling bieden voor lange sessies. Ondanks dat heb ik oprecht genoten van de uren die ik met Coffee Crisis doorbracht. Toch kan ik me voorstellen als moderne metal niet je ding is en je geen idee hebt wie Nile, Terrorizer en Metal Jesus Rocks zijn, Coffee Crisis minder interessant kan zijn voor jou. Voor wie het wel is: BREAK. IT. DOWN.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition is truly a love letter from Namco Tales Studios to fans of the franchise. While the main story is a touch trite and the combat a little dull, it’s worth it to accompany this cast of interesting and nuanced characters on their journey to save the day.

Bladed Fury doesn’t break any new ground, but it’s got its 2D hack and slash fundamentals down to a science. Its beautiful hand-drawn art style and great enemy designs bring its mythological rendition of ancient China to life, even when its story fails to.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition is a solid remaster of one of the best classic JRPGs released during the previous console generation. With a colorful cast of well-developed characters, an incredibly fun battle system, and engaging gameplay mechanics, the game still manages to hold its own ten years since release, even with minimal tweaking. The huge amount of new content is also meaningful to the experience, making the Definitive Edition truly the definitive way to experience the game.

Tanto si jugasteis al Tales of Vesperia original como si no lo hicisteis y queréis darle una oportunidad ahora, no podemos dejar de recomendaros este Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition. A los veteranos porque tendrán la oportunidad de jugar el juego con los textos en castellano y porque encontrarán la historia ampliada con la inclusión de los dos nuevos personajes jugables, además de varios contenidos adicionales. Y a los nuevos porque no deberían perderse esta entrega de la saga, capaz de mantenernos enganchados hasta la escena final gracias a una historia compleja y atractiva y unos personajes muy carismáticos. Sin duda, una buena forma de entrar en contacto por primera vez con la saga Tale of o de revivir una magnífica historia.

È inutile girarci attorno: nel 2019, quella offerta da Tales of Vesperia è ormai un’esperienza strutturalmente vecchia e con molti limiti dettati dall’età, e questa Definitive Edition non fa molto per mascherarlo. Ciò malgrado, se siete appassionati della serie, inguaribili nostalgici o semplicemente se volete vivere un’avventura leggera, adatta ai novellini del genere e condita da uno stile visivo davvero apprezzabile, legato al mondo dei manga e degli anime, ve lo consigliamo senza se e senza ma. Per il resto, però, è impossibile non considerare i tanti aspetti strutturali che non funzionano più bene come una decade fa, in primo luogo il sistema di combattimento, invecchiato in maniera non proprio impeccabile. Nostalgici e curiosi (anche di giocarlo in modalità portatile su Switch) potrebbero comunque farsi avanti; tutti gli altri è innegabile, avranno già mosso il loro sguardo verso altri orizzonti, e magari, chissà, verso i capitoli più moderni del franchise.

I’m of two minds with Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition. On one hand, this is the most complete version of easily the best Tales game in the last ten years. On the other hand, Bandai Namco has marred the phenomenal protagonist Yuri by splitting him between two fairly distinct voices. They apparently didn’t want to fully re-voice the character and not bringing back Troy Baker has only muddled the situation. Because of this, it will make those who loved the game wince every time they go between the two voices, while new players will no doubt be confused at the consistent change of tones. With that said, Tales of Vesperia as a whole is a masterful game that deserves to be played by anyone who enjoys a good story. It’s not only one of the best Tales games, but it’s up there in the pantheon of impeccable RPGs. With so much new and enhanced content on an already impressive base, Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition starts 2019 off with a bang.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is a broadly approachable and feature-rich platforming game. Toadette is a welcome addition to the roster for those after a more forgiving way to tackle some of the more challenging levels, and the inclusion of the New Super Luigi U mode extends its lifespan substantially. While there are a number of other Nintendo Switch games within the genre that outdo New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe in various different ways, it nonetheless remains a highly enjoyable platforming package as a whole.

Non è facile giudicare un prodotto come New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. Più che di una rimasterizzazione si tratta della riedizione di un titolo uscito sette anni fa, impacchettato con qualche novità (un paio di personaggi pensati per chi ha bisogno di un platform più “morbido”) e accompagnato da un enorme DLC capace di estendere non poco la durata dell'esperienza di gioco. Se un prodotto del genere può esistere e trovare giustificazione sul mercato attuale, è perché Nintendo vive nella meravigliosa contraddizione della “doppia generazione”: dopo una console creativamente ed economicamente sfortunata come Wii U, la casa di Kyoto ha rilanciato la sua “ottava gen” grazie a Switch. Di fatto, la versione Deluxe di New Super Mario Bros. U rende questa pietra miliare del platform bidimensionale accessibile anche a chi si è riavvicinato al mondo Nintendo solo di recente. C'è anche da dire che negli anni che separano l'uscita originale dalla versione Deluxe la scena del platform 2D non ha subito grandi stravolgimenti. Le software house hanno preferito sfruttare forme ibride, guardare in direzione dei metroidvania, oppure darsi alle tre dimensioni. Chiusa (nostro malgrado) la parentesi Rayman con l'ottimo Legends, non c'è stato una produzione davvero rivoluzionaria, e questo fa sì che ancora oggi New Super Mario Bros. U possa collocarsi molto in alto nella scala gerarchica del suo genere di riferimento. Oltre ad essere l'episodio migliore della saga “New”, il più creativo ed il più diversificato, il gioco sviluppato da Nintendo EAD si distingue come un titolo avvincente, impegnativo, perfetto per chi cerca una sfida stimolante. Le modalità extra e il multiplayer riescono a trasformarlo anche in un prodotto adatto ad animare qualche serata fra amici. Se non l'avete mai giocato, insomma, non fatevi spaventare dal costo effettivamente più alto rispetto agli standard di operazioni simili: il rapporto quantità/prezzo è ancora a vostro favore. Con una politica più user friendly la casa di Kyoto avrebbe potuto stuzzicare anche quei giocatori che New Super Mario Bros. U lo hanno invece consumato sette anni fa. A loro, nel caso fossero interessati ad un'altra “run”, consigliamo di attendere qualche offerta.

Guacamelee! 2 arriva su Xbox One regalando anche agli utenti Microsoft la stessa splendida esperienza già disponibile su tutte le altre piattaforme. Nonostante sia l'ultima delle versioni in arrivo, e nonostante l'averlo giocato giusto qualche mese fa, il divertimento e la voglia di menare scheletri e amenità varie non sono mai scemate. Pur a fronte di alcune strane scelte, come l'eliminazione di un paio di poteri aggiungi nelle versione turbo dell'originale e scontri con i boss meno impegnativi e in minor quantità, Guacamelee! 2 rappresenta quella perfetta forma di more of the same che non guasta mai, soprattutto per un genere così dipendente da dettami specifici e incrollabili.
