Con Mortal Kombat 1 NetherRealm è riuscita a sorprenderci sia in positivo che in negativo: dal punto di vista del gameplay questo è chiaramente il capitolo con più potenziale della serie, oltre che uno dei più divertenti in assoluto, e riesce a mantenere un certo equilibrio generale nonostante un bilanciamento ben lontano dalla perfezione. Contenutisticamente, invece, il gioco è piuttosto piatto, e la modalità invasioni ci è parsa in particolare piuttosto affrettata e ripetitiva. Nel complesso, comunque, si tratta di un picchiaduro di alta qualità, assolutamente da giocare per qualunque fan del marchio, e con ogni probabilità capace di convertire anche i più scettici. Ora resta solo da vedere se Ed Boon e i suoi riusciranno a domare il cavallo pazzo che loro stessi hanno creato gestendo a dovere i futuri update e i personaggi DLC previsti. Speriamo di sì, perché a nostro parere questo Mortal Kombat ha ancora notevoli possibilità di evolversi.

Mortal Kombat 1 is another great entry in this legendary series, but it’s not one without issues. The new Kameo system is excellent, there are smart changes to the fighting mechanics that address many of the fundamental issues that cropped up over Mortal Kombat 11’s life, and predictably, the fantastic single-player story mode that continues to be the gold standard of the genre. But certain elements of online play are starting to feel dated, and Invasions mode is not nearly engaging enough to hold my attention for as long as is needed to unlock a majority of the goodies hidden behind its many treasure chests and gimmicky battles. Still, Mortal Kombat 1 marks a new beginning for the franchise, and it’s a very exciting launching point for the next era.

The ever so popular board game, Gloomhaven has finally made it’s way onto Xbox in a glorious digital format. Despite enjoying board games however this adaptation did not do much for me personally. The system is complex and something I could not grasp super well. The tutorial does a fine job at holding your hand though and seemingly goes over every detail that makes Gloomhaven popular amongst its original fans, it was just too slow for me. That said I think fans of the actual board game would enjoy the thoroughness this version has in it as well as the new content that does not exist in the physical format.

Fear The Spotlight is a brief, nostalgic love letter to 90s horror games, blending simple stealth and puzzle mechanics. While it doesn't break new ground in the genre, its atmospheric visuals and sound design provide a few hours of engaging fun for fans of retro horror, though it may not offer enough depth to warrant a second playthrough.

Summum Aeterna es un fantástico roguelite de acción. Exigente, frenético y tremendamente divertido, esconde en su interior una gran capacidad de personalización de la experiencia y muchas horas de diversión.

Ad Infinitum è un titolo horror che unisce bene queste sue caratteristiche classiche a un gameplay davvero ricco di elementi puzzle, utili per farci conoscere il mondo di gioco e tutto il contesto storico e narrativo che gira intorno alla vicenda del protagonista. Il team Hekate è stato in grado di portare sui nostri schermi un titolo davvero ben concepito e in grado di offrire un punto di vista originale, avendo difficilmente a che fare con la prospettiva bellica di un soldato e del suo dolore. Non solo, anche la scelta di rivisitare il mondo bellico con visioni concrete del dolore e dei traumi è una scelta che porta a rifletterci su quello che significa avere a che fare con i conflitti di guerra, passati e presenti. Ad Infinitum diventa così un’occasione videoludica di riflessione non scontata, che mette in risalto diversi temi sensibili e delicati su una realtà purtroppo sempre contemporanea. Al netto di qualche presa in prestito stilistica e di qualche minima sbavatura, il gameplay riesce a catturarci sin dall’inizio offrendoci uno spaccato di realtà raccontato in maniera verosimile e con parecchia cura nel comparto grafico e tecnico. Un titolo che si avvicina alla perfezione, soprattutto nel coinvolgimento emotivo. Ottimo lavoro per il team Hekate, che riesce a fare centro con una narrazione emozionante e terrificante al contempo.
