Wizard With a Gun est la bonne petite surprise coop de cette fin d’année. Pas exempt de défauts, le jeu reste néanmoins une proposition très sympathique et plaisante, principalement à partager à deux joueurs en plusieurs soirées.

Pour fêter l’arrivée d’un nouveau Sonic en 2,5D, Superstars fait dans le cliché. En effet, cette production de SEGA réutilise de nombreuses idées issues d’anciens épisodes (3 & Knuckles, Generations, Mania, etc.) pour exploser le chrono, quitte à aspirer les qualités comme les défauts à la manière d’un Fang qui volerait tout ce qui lui passe sous la main. Sans idée forte dans son gameplay malgré des retouches bienvenues, Sonic Superstars ne brille ni avec l’ajout des pouvoirs des Chaos Emeralds, ni avec son multijoueur pourtant très mis en avant. Ce joli platformer reste tout simplement dans sa zone de confort, ce qui plaira sûrement aux fans emblématiques au risque de refroidir les autres.

Ambizioso, peculiare nelle sue caratteristiche e molto più profondo e sfaccettato del previsto. Dune: Spice Wars è un buon omaggio al ricco universo creato da Frank Herbert e offre un gameplay abbastanza dinamico e libero da concedergli un’ottima rigiocabilità. Di contro, alcuni elementi di gameplay non sono esattamente immediati, e talvolta il gioco può sopraffare il giocatore con la sua mole di informazioni: tutte cose che, purtroppo, minano in parte il valore dell'esperienza. Infine, l’assenza della modalità storia in un gioco basato su un universo narrativo che, comprendendo tutti i libri, sfiora le tremila pagine, rappresenta un peccato: di certo agli autori non mancava il materiale per inventarsi un intreccio appassionante.

Spider-Man 2 aprende de sus predecesores y perfecciona la fórmula. Es un juego que no se complica demasiado, y se sostiene sobre una historia interesante, unas mecánicas de movimiento sublimes y un combate lleno de acción. Un secuela a la altura, que teniendo en cuenta de dónde venimos, es encomiable.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 es uno de los mejores juegos del año. Eso es algo que todos podríamos haber pensado incluso antes de jugarlo, pero que no debe pertenecer al grupo de los meritorios notables altos, sino que ha de estar en el selecto grupo de los sobresalientes. Miles y Peter nos brindan una aventura divertidísima, cargada de necesarios mensajes sobre pedir ayuda cuando es menester, y que técnicamente es un deleite para los sentidos. Y nos demuestra que Insomniac es uno de los estudios más en forma del planeta, y ya van para muchos años así. Seguramente haya titanes más grandes en 2023 en lo que a videojuegos se refiere, pero Marvel's Spider-Man se merece un hueco justo después de ellos.

I started hedgehog over heels for Sonic Superstars, but the more time I put into it, the easier it was for me to see its Eggman-sized flaws. The decision to focus more on exploration was a great idea on paper and creates a unique dynamic to each level, but I wish it hadn’t sacrificed speed in exchange. The boss designs are creative and clever, but often wear out their welcome with long periods of being untargetable and occasionally frustrating one-hit KO mechanics. The soundtrack may not have anything as iconic as Hydro City or Spring Yard Zone, but it features some excellent additions to an already long list of Sonic bangers – if only the sound design was up to the same quality standard. And while the campaign is still enjoyable, Superstars’ multiplayer components are far worse options than anything in past Sonic games. Like digging Emeralds out of the rough, Sonic Superstars’ new ideas end up feeling like a mix of both interesting and ill-advised, making it an amusing Sonic game but not exactly a Super one.

Sonic Superstars absolutely nails the classic 16-bit Sonic gameplay. Its power-ups are hit-or-miss and its extra modes and co-op will divide opinion, but fans of the Mega Drive / Genesis days will adore the way this mixes that old feel with a new look.

Sonic Superstars rappresenta un'ottima nuova iterazione della serie principale, un episodio al tempo stesso tradizionale e fedele nell'impostazione, ma fresco in quasi ogni altro aspetto. La struttura dei livelli è intelligente e funzionale all'utilizzo di quattro personaggi dalle caratteristiche molto diverse; gli scontri con i boss divertenti e mai davvero frustranti; in generale, la mole di contenuti - tra livelli, poteri degli smeraldi e sfide legate al nuovo oggetto, la frutta - tale da giustificare un prezzo di lancio sostanzioso. L'aspetto meno riuscito della produzione è certamente la modalità battaglia, pensata esclusivamente per il multiplayer in locale e online - ma è comunque un inizio, e a chi non piace basta ignorarla. In tutto il resto, Sonic Superstars è uno di quei titoli che non può mancare nella collezione dei fan storici. E in verità è anche perfetto per tutti i nuovi arrivati. Purché sappiano correre molto, molto velocemente.

Skull Island: Rise of Kong is ugly and full of bugs, but the real trouble is that, at its core, it’s just boring. It makes no meaningful attempts to do anything new or clever, with mindless combat and pointless platforming that make it feel like a worse version of every action game from the last 20 years. This isn't the kind of bad game you can play to laugh at, or that took some cool swings but missed them, or that creates weird combinations of technical snafus that lead to unexpected but entertaining results. It doesn't even rate enough to be called frustrating. Rise of Kong is fundamentally disinterested in itself: a giant ape game that doesn't even care enough about what it's doing to make the ape feel giant.

Sonic Superstars shines brightest when it’s sticking to what made the Genesis titles so successful. Running through the levels, launching oneself off spring boards and dashing through loop the loops is just as enjoyable now as it was in the 16-bit days. Cracks in this Chaos Emerald become more apparent with some of the changes. Many of the boss designs are good, but the patterned approach to fighting them can make them excessively drag on. The powers granted by Chaos Emeralds are fun additions, but the overall emphasis on exploration over speed takes away from the core experience of what one expects and loves from a Sonic game, plus the addition of multiplayer is a reminder of why these have traditionally been single player experiences. But criticisms aside it’s still a fun game, and while far from flawless, still a must play for fans of classic Sonic games.

Sonic Superstars es un juego que contentará al fan del erizo azul, sobre todo a quien busque una entrega clásica, pero a la vez con novedades. Las nuevas mecánicas están bien implementadas y el diseño de los niveles, con sus más y sus menos es bastante bueno, fomentando más la exploración que la velocidad pura y dura. Si bien creo que el título podría estar más pulido a nivel gráfico o que podrían haber sido un poco más ambiciosos en la propuesta, sigo pensando que este Superstars es un muy buen punto de partida, y que a partir de aquí podemos ver aventuras en 2D de Sonic más a menudo y de muy buena calidad.
